Solcon adds new 2 Gbps broadband offer

Dutch ISP Solcon is introducing a new broadband service at 2 Gbps, available on the KPN and Delta FTTH networks. On the KPN network the subscription costs EUR 62.50, and the price is EUR 67 in Delta areas. At the same time Solcon is increasing speeds and adjusting prices for other fibre subscriptions.

Proximus adds kids mobile plan option to FMC range

Belgian operator Proximus is introducing a mobile plan for kids, available for customers taking its Flex fixed-mobile packages. The plan costs EUR 7 per month for 2 GB, 120 minutes and unlimited SMS, and any additional spending is blocked automatically. A 'Kids Protection Pack' is included, with parental controls via Norton Family software and educational tips from Child Focus. In addition, Proximus provides a free ticket to the educational museums Technopolis or Sparkoh!.

Netherlands awards 7 new private 5G permits for 3.5GHz band

SES subsidiary New Skies Satellites, wireless network specialist Lumiad and the greenhouse industry's innovation centre Tomatoworld are among the recipients of seven new licences for private 5G networks in the 3.5 GHz band in the Netherlands. According to the latest update from the digital infrastructure agency RDI, there are a total 58 private networks licensed in the band as of March.

Wallonia digital maturity index shows 94% of households connected to internet

Internet penetration has reached 94 percent of households in the Belgian region of Wallonia and 89 percent of people in the region have smartphones, according to the latest digital maturity barometer by the regional government's digital agency. Households are also more satisfied with their internet connections, with 64 percent considering the connection quality good, up 4 percentage points from the previous survey. At the same time, almost one in ten (9%) said they experience service disruptions regularly.

KPN joins Dutch ICT alliance for public sector cloud alternative

Seven Dutch ICT providers including telecom operator KPN have teamed up to offer an alternative to the dominant American cloud providers. The other members of the group, announced in a tribune in the paper NRC Handelsblad, are Centric, Info Support, Intermax, Nebul, Previder and Uniserver. They will work to coordinate their technical standards and service guarantees to provide a reliable alternative for large-scale projects such as public sector applications. AMS-IX moves to local hoster Uniserver in digital sovereignty move

The Amsterdam internet exchange AMS-IX announced it has migrated some of its workloads to local hoster Unisever. The group said this is "a deliberate step to further strengthen control, transparency, and continuity of our digital infrastructure". It comes amid a growing focus on digital sovereignty in the Netherlands and Europe, in an effort to reduce dependency on the dominant American cloud providers.

Dutch score well on digital skills adoption, above EU averages

Almost nine in ten small businesses in the Netherlands have a basic level of digital intensity, among the highest in the EU according to new statistics from the Dutch agency CBS and Eurostat. The latest benchmark of the EU's Digital Decade targets shows almost 89 percent of companies with 10-250 employees meet the basis digital adoption measure, just under the EU's official target of 90 percent by 2030. Only Finland and Denmark do better.

Dutch ISPs report success with pilot anti-phishing shield

Dutch internet providers and the National Cyber Security Centre report positive results from a pilot project blocking access to fraudulent websites. Access to suspicious sites was blocked around 2 million times during the trial of the Anti Phishing Shield. Due to the successful results, the plans is to make the shield a structural fixture, managed by the NCSC.

ACM report shows Dutch broadband penetration at over 91% in 2025

Another 220,000 homes passed with FTTH were realised in the Netherlands in the fourth quarter of 2025, taking the total fibre coverage to 8.944 million households, the latest ACM data shows. The market regulator said the number of active fibre connections increased to 3.636 million at year-end, up by 90,000 from the end of September. KPN refreshes broadband plans with higher prices

KPN has refreshed its fixed broadband plans. All the prices are slightly more expensive, apart from the 1 Gbps service, which remains at EUR 52.50 per month for new customers. On FTTH, the plans start now at 200 Mbps, while 100 Mbps remains available for customers with DSL.

VodafoneZiggo cuts energy use in 2025 with mobile network, data centre upgrades

VodafoneZiggo said it took further steps in 2025 to reduce its energy usage, with savings of several GWh per year. The most important measures were in the mobile network, data centres and retail outlets, including the use of software to optimise infrastructure efficiency. Further efforts are expected to lead to around 10 GWh in savings from 2029, according to the Dutch operator's annual sustainability report.

LCL opens its largest data centre in Diegem

Belgium's LCL Data Centers opened a new data centre in Diegem, near Brussels airport, expanding its capacity for data, cloud and AI services. This is its sixth and largest site, which LCL said will support organisations with high demands for data access, security and continuity.

FTTH grows to over half Dutch broadband revenues in 2025

Fibre grew to over half the revenues in the Dutch consumer broadband market in 2025. Fibre revenues were up 14.7 percent to EUR 1.45 billion in the 12 months, giving FTTH a 51.7 percent share of the residential broadband market, up from 47 percent in 2024. The total market grew at a slower rate of 4.2 percent to EUR 2.81 billion in revenue. KPN maintained its market lead, VodafoneZiggo lost share, and Odido increased its market share, the latest research by Telecompaper shows.

Belgian court upholds minimum local investment quota for Netflix

The Constitutional Court of Belgium has rejected much of Netflix's arguments against a minimum investment in domestic content on its video platform. As a result the legal requirement remains largely in place, while additional questions on its application have been sent to the EU Court of Justice for an opinion.

Dutch court bans Grok AI-generated nude images

X and its AI tool Grok are banned from creating and distributing in the Netherlands images of people being undressed and other unauthorised nude images, following an interim order from a court in Amsterdam. Any violations of the order will be subject to fines of EUR 100,000 per day, up to a maximum EUR 10 million. In addition, Grok may not be offered over X as long as the AI bot does not comply with the court order.

Dutch pay-TV market contracts in 2025 as 1.5 mln households go without TV subscription

Revenues in the residential pay-TV market in the Netherlands fell 1.2 percent in 2025 to EUR 1.74 billion. This is due to a slow decline in the number of subscribers for TV services, in the face of greater competition from SVOD and other online video services. Telecompaper forecasts the drop in pay-TV revenues to continue in the coming years, as annual price increases are no longer enough to offset the fewer customers.

DPG Media seeks better terms in new RTL distribution deal with KPN - report

DPG Media is asking for a higher fee from KPN to distribute the RTL Netherlands channels, as well as a more prominent position for its streaming service Videoland on the KPN TV platform, according to Marketing Report. Their current carriage contract is nearing an end, and the new RTL owner is hoping for better terms.

Belgian telecom ombudsman flags continued problems with switching in annual report

The number of complaints in the Belgian telecom sector fell to around 15,000 in 2025 from 16,000 the previous year, according to the latest annual report from the sector's ombudsman. In addition the ombudsman handled over 15,000 written queries and 4,000 phone calls. Problems cancelling contracts remains a common issue for consumers contacting the ombudsman.

VodafoneZiggo and KPN increase share of media spending in early 2026

Dutch telecom providers spent around EUR 38 million on advertising in the first two months of 2026, a roughly 1 percent increase in gross spending compared to a year ago, figures from Nielsen show. Market leaders VodafoneZiggo and KPN took a relatively larger share of voice than a year earlier.

Contactless mobile payments overtake cards for first time in Netherlands in 2025

Contactless payments with a smartphone or smartwatch exceeded payments by card for the first time in the Netherlands last year. Almost six in ten POS payments were conducted with a phone or watch, compared to around four in ten in 2024, according to figures from the national payments association, Betaalvereniging Nederland.

Dutch landline market loses 420,000 subscribers in 2025, revenues down 16%

Around 420,000 households in the Netherlands cancelled their fixed telephony subscription in 2025, leaving just under 2.6 million still with a residential fixed line. The number of consumer landline subscribers was down by 14 percent, and annual revenues from the services dropped nearly 16 percent on both fewer subscribers and less fixed-line calls, research by Telecompaper shows.

Smizer platform expands with Freez.it takeover

Riverdam announced another takeover for its Smizer alliance of ICT service providers in the Netherlands. Office IT has acquired Freez.it, based in Bolsward, strengthening its position in Friesland and the wider SME market in the north of the country. Customers will have access to a wider range of services after the takeover, including desktop management, connectivity and cybersecurity, with the same local support presence.
