NLconnect warns of risks to EU plan for telecom supplier controls

The proposed reforms of the EU's Cybersecurity Act (CSA2) may have a negative impact on investments in telecom networks and digital resilience, according to a position paper from the Dutch industry group NLconnect. 3SS ties up with Geely to enable Zeekr Entertainment Hub in cars in Europe

3 Screen Solutions (3SS) has announced an agreement with Gothenburg-based Geely Technology Europe to launch the Zeekr Entertainment Hub. Geely Technology Europe previously traded as Zeekr Technology Europe and is the European R&D centre of China's Geely Auto Group. The hub is an in-car media platform for installation in several Zeekr models and integrates Geely Technology Europe's intelligent software expertise with 3SS's 3Ready Automotive platform.

US-based private cellular asset management specialist OneLayer said it is expanding its European footprint, having recently appointed a new sales director for Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA). Sander Teunissen takes up the role to help scale OneLayer's regional presence, through customer additions and supporting them to integrate private LTE/5G into critical operational technology (OT) and zero-trust security workflows. European Central Bank signs contract with DXC for IT management

The European Central Bank has signed a five-year agreement with DXC Technology Deutschland, a provider of computing and IT infrastructure managed services, to run its IT operations. Under the agreement, DXC Technology Deutschland is responsible for operations, maintenance, and support of some IT services. The ECB will retain full ownership of all IT assets and continue hosting its IT services in data centres. The contract has a maximum duration of eight years, DXC said.

EU telecom regulators are concerned that the proposed Digital Networks Act will concentrate more power in Brussels, leaving national authorities with less room to impose regulations adapted to local market conditions. The national regulators, united in the EU body Berec, published their first take on the draft DNA ahead of Berec's annual stakeholders forum in Brussels.

Bahnhof seeks authorisation to issue up to 10 mln shares

Shareholders at Sweden-based broadband operator Bahnhof will vote on a motion at its 12 May AGM to authorise the board of directors to issue up to 10 million shares by the 2027 meeting for cash, contribution in kind or offset. The issue may be done in deviation from shareholders' preferential rights, in order to broaden ownership and enable expansion to continue unabated, as well as to raise capital for acquisitions.

Ekinops agrees MoU with European carrier, teeing up potential WDM optical procurement

Ekinops announced a preliminary deal with a leading European telecom operator to supply optical transport equipment. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) envisages a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) deployment to power the unnamed client's nationwide high-speed optical network. Commercial discussions with the customer are ongoing and could result in a framework contract in the coming months to guide future procurement, Ekinops added.

Rocket Lab has completed its first dedicated launch for the European Space Agency (ESA), delivering two navigation demonstration satellites into low Earth orbit. The mission, named "Daughter Of The Stars", launched from the company's site in Mahia, New Zealand on 28 March. The Electron rocket deployed the first two spacecraft for ESA's "Celeste" programme into a 510 km orbit. The Celeste mission is designed to test how a low Earth orbit satellite layer can operate alongside Europe's Galileo navigation syste

European vendors launch sovereign alternative to Microsoft Office

A group of European vendors has launched an open source alternative to Microsoft Office based on sovereign IT components that can be integrated into different platforms. Backed by Ionos, Nextcloud, Eurostack, XWiki, OpenProject, Soverin, Abilian and BTactic, an early build of the Euro-Office suite is now available ahead of the first full stable release in summer 2026.

Xebia adds OVHcloud as hosting partner

OVHcloud announced a partnership agreement with Xebia, a digital transformation and engineering services provider based in the Netherlands. Through the agreement, OVHcloud will join Xebia's roster of hosting providers, allowing customers to access its sovereign cloud infrastructure.

EU tells porn sites to implement minimum age checks to protect minors

Pornography websites Pornhub, Stripchat, XNXX and XVideos must implement checks to ensure EU users of their sites are at least 18 years old. If not they risk fines of up to 6 percent of their global revenues for violating the EU's Digital Services Act, the European Commission announced. The age checks are needed to ensure minors are protected and do not have access to the sites.

Snapchat to face formal EU investigation into protection of minors

Snap may have breached EU law by not providing sufficient protection for minors on Snapchat, the European Commission announced. It's opened a formal investigation into the company and its compliance with the EU's Digital Services Act, looking specifically at whether Snapchat is verifying the age of its users, promoting its privacy controls enough to minors and preventing posts on illegal goods like drugs or age-restricted products like alcohol and vapes.

Evroc ties up with Detecon to offer sovereign AI and cloud services to European organisations

Sweden-based cloud company Evroc and Deutsche Telekom's consultancy division Detecon said they will work together to offer sovereign Artificial Intelligence and cloud services to European organisations. Their partnership claims to close the gap between accepting dependence on foreign-controlled cloud infrastructure, or prioritising sovereignty and sacrificing access to cutting-edge AI capabilities.

Ericsson has teamed up with the Juelich Research Center in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia to work on AI models and research supporting core networks, network management and the next generation of Radio Access Networks (RAN). IoT company Kore has announced a strategic partnership with French connectivity service provider Move & Connect, with a view to strengthening its presence in Europe. This collaboration gives Move & Connect's European clients access to Kore's global network, which includes over 190 countries. In particular, Move & Connect will combine its local knowledge with Kore's connectivity management platform to provide differentiated offers built on the platform's extensive eSIM capabilities.

eYou raises EUR 300,000 to develop to build a real-time fact-checking social network

Romania-based social media startup eYou has raised EUR 300,000 in pre-seed funding as it prepares to launch a new platform aimed at promoting transparency and verifying information in online talks. The funding round was led by Fil Rouge Capital, a venture capital fund known for investing in early-stage technology companies.

CyrusOne improves credit facilities to USD 8 billion

CyrusOne has increased its credit facilities to support its data centre business, both for general corporate purposes and refinancing existing debt. It now has around USD 8.0 billion available through a revolving credit facility and US term loan, after "record bookings" in 2025, the company said.

Nextcloud gains 2 mln users in 2025

Employee-owned European software company Nextcloud announced that demand for its digitally sovereign workspace platform surged in 2025, adding more than two million new users over the year. The Germany-based firm said inquiries and rollouts rose sharply amid growing European interest in sovereign open-source alternatives to US-based cloud services. Incoming leads tripled compared with 2024, driving bookings up more than 50 percent.

Iliad said that it kept its leading position among major European telecom groups for the fourth consecutive year, based on annual service revenue growth of 3.4 percent in 2025 across its operations in France, Italy, and Poland. Certain smart TV operating systems should be considered "gatekeepers" under EU competition law in order to ensure wide access for content providers and apps on connected TVs, according to a statement from European broadcaster associations.
