Arm to set up 5G lab for testing open RAN platforms

Arm announced plans to set up a new lab to develop customised 5G products. The Arm 5G Solutions Lab operated in partnership with Tech Mahindra will focus on accelerating innovation for network infrastructure, providing a place for Arm's hardware and software partners to come together and demonstrate end-to-end solutions in a live test environment.

The lab is expected to support the industry push for open RAN platforms, giving operators and enterprises a place to test multi-vendor systems and applications. They can validate critical use-cases such as small cells, macro cells, private 5G networks, cloud RAN, RAN Intelligence Controller (RIC), and core network.

Arm said the lab has the support of cloud service providers like Google Cloud, silicon and hardware providers like EdgeQ, Gigabyte, Marvell, Nvidia, NXP and Qualcomm Technologies, operators including Dish and Vodafone, software partners such as Accelleran, Mavenir, Parallel Wireless, Radisys, Saankhya Labs, and Tech Mahindra, as well as organizations like GSMA. It expects to open the site to developers in early 2022.
