Quickline marks graduation of fibre installation apprentices

Quickline Communications, UK rural broadband provider, has marked the graduation of three fibre installation engineer apprentices; with apprenticeships ongoing in IT, technical support, HR and finance across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. To date, 128 apprenticeships have been taken up across the region - including 12 at telecoms infrastructure services company OCU Group Opals; 36 at Hull-based construction firm PBS Construction.

GoNetSpeed, US fibre broadband provider and network operator, has started a USD 13.6 million network build in South River, marking its first community in New Jersey to be connected. The network will deliver multi-gigabit broadband speeds to over 10,500 homes and businesses.

UK rural ISP Airband appoints new managing director

UK rural broadband provider Airband has appointed Alan Mitchell as Managing Director. He was previously the company's Chief Operating Officer, and will report to Executive Chairman Jarlath Finnegan in his new role. Finnegan said Mitchell had "played a critical role" in Airband's expansion over the last year, and was the right person to lead the company forward.

AT&T refreshes home fibre broadband plans

AT&T is refreshing its home fibre broadband plans to provide customers with a more focused set of plans to suit their needs. From 07 June, customers can choose from four AT&T Fiber speed options - 300 Mbps, 500 Mbps, 1 GIG and 5 GIG. Customers bundling home and wireless internet can get fibre broadband from USD 35 per month, and save up to USD 420 a year.

Icelandic mobile data traffic grows 8% in 2025 but mobile subscribers stay flat

There was no change in the number of mobile phone subscriptions in Iceland year on year in 2025, according to regulator Fjarskiptastofa. Its annual statistical report for the telecoms sector says mobile network data traffic expanded by 7.6 percent year on year. Call minutes from mobile phones fell by 0.8 percent to 1.07 billion.

CityFibre has reached the milestone of connecting more than one million UK premises to its full-fibre network. CityFibre's critical national infrastructure is also used by enterprises, mobile operators and local authorities to connect around 16,000 sites across the UK - including GP surgeries, hospitals and schools. The option is available choosing 600 Mbps to 8 Gbps speed. The promotion is focused on new customers.

Swansea Bay City secures GBP 44.8 mln digital connectivity investment

The Swansea Bay City Region secured digital connectivity investment worth GBP 44.8 million during 2024/25, according to the new report from Farrpoint. This includes GBP 2.2 million through the Swansea Bay City Deal Infrastructure Programme, which was used to fund major projects such as the PSBA Full Fibre Infrastructure Build and the Dark Fibre East project.

Spectrum expands fibre network across more rural areas of Michigan

Charter Communications' Spectrum division is expanding its fibre broadband network to more than 900 additional rural homes and businesses in unserved/underserved areas of Osceola County, Michigan. This includes the townships of Sherman, Rose Lake, Richmond, Lincoln, Le Roy, Hersey, Evart, Cedar, Burdell and Sylvan, plus the Village of Le Roy.

Polish KPO scheme reaches 294,000 households passed in May

The Project Centre Digital Poland (CPPC) has announced that 294,102 households were covered by broadband networks under National Recovery and Resilience Programme (KPO) projects by the end of May. The figure comes from the national monitoring and analysis system SIMBA and is up from 274,778 homes two weeks ago. Poland aims to cover 521,000 households by the end of August under an extended deadline for the European Commission programme.

SFR taps EfficientIP to offer DNS protection to all fibre subs

French operator SFR, part of Altice France, said that new and existing fibre subscribers can now automatically benefit from a safer browsing experience, following a partnership with network automation and DNS security specialist EfficientIP. Under this collaboration, a new service dubbed 'SFR Navigation Protegee' (SFR Protected Browsing) is integrated into all of the operator's fibre offers at no extra charge.

Openreach expands full-fibre network to more English towns, villages

Openreach has started work on new full-fibre broadband networks to connect homes and businesses in Leire (Leicestershire), Long Buckby (West Northamptonshire), Darley Dale and Leabrooks (Derbyshire), Spilsby (Lincolnshire), Barnard Castle (County Durham) and Hungerford (Berkshire). The Openreach full-fibre network now reached over 22 million UK premises, with plans to reach 25 million by end-2026 and up to 30 million by 2030.

German regional operator M-net has introduced its new Internet 2000 fibre-optic tariff, providing a download speed of up to 2 Gbps speeds and uploads at up to 1 Gbps. The Internet 2000 subscription costs EUR 14.90 monthly for the first six months, EUR 84.90 monthly from the seventh to the 24th month of contract, and EUR 89.90 from the 25th month. Telefonica partners EWE to expand 5G in northwestern Germany

Telefonica Germany has announced an agreement with the EWE group to expand the mobile network in northwestern Germany, and connect 5G masts to the fibre-optic network. Under the agreement, EWE provides fibre-optic connections and its own masts to support the expansion of Telefonica's 5G network. Additionally, EWE is supporting the construction of new mobile sites and connecting them directly to the fibre-optic network.

Avatel inks MasOrange network deal, sells Infraco stake to Inveready

Spanish rural telecommunications provider Avatel has signed a wholesale agreement with MasOrange to expand its network coverage to around 95 percent of the country. Avatel said the deal marks a significant step in its growth strategy, enabling it to strengthen its presence in major cities while extending services nationwide.
