Quickline Project Gigabit roll-out ahead of target in S Yorkshire

Quickline Communications, UK rural broadband provider, has made full-fibre broadband available to around 9,000 premises through the South Yorkshire (Lot 20) Project Gigabit contract. Quickline was awarded the UK government-funded contract two years ago, with the roll-out now ahead of target. The contract had a target of reaching 8,049 premises by end-March 2026, with Quickline achieving this target in mid-February 2026 and extending coverage to 8,840 premises by end-March.

Gigabit broadband available to 89% of UK homes - Ofcom

The latest Ofcom data shows that gigabit-capable broadband (at least 1 Gbps) is available to 27.1 million households across the UK as of January 2026, equal to 89 percent of premises. This is up from 26.4 million premises (87%) a year earlier. The Connected Nations Spring Update shows that full-fibre broadband was available to 24.9 million or 82 percent of UK homes in January, up from 23.7 million six months earlier.

Inter Venezuela, the country's largest private ISP, has deployed a nationwide XGS-PON-based mobile backhaul service using Harmonic's virtualised core and fibre infrastructure, announced the US broadband technology specialist. The rollout is designed to provide a cost-efficient alternative to traditional dedicated cellular links as mobile operators in Venezuela prepare for increased network density tied to future 5G deployments.

Italian international service provider Sparkle said its CEO Enrico Bagnasco has been re-elected as chair of the Global Leaders' Forum (GLF), extending his mandate until May 2028. Swedish telecoms regulator PTS said applications for this year's broadband subsidy round are open until 26 August, with SEK 820 million available in 2026. There are 192,548 eligible buildings this year. The minimum project size is five buildings and applications can be made for up to SEK 15 million per project.

Telefonica waives FTTR setup fee

Telefonica is encouraging more users to sign up to its FTTR (fibre to the room) service by waiving the previously applicable one-off installation fee of EUR 120. Under the promo, technicians will set up the 'Fibra Movistar FTTR' cable and WiFi 6 repeaters at customer homes all over Spain at no extra charge, with the corresponding service now costing EUR 12 a month over 48 months.

GlobalConnect has announced the appointment of Zornitsa Radkova-Lund as its new group CFO from 01 June, replacing Lasse Pilgaard, who is taking over as group CEO on 01 September when Martin Lippert steps down after thirteen years in the role. She joins GlobalConnect from clothing company Helly Hansen but previously spent nearly eight years at Telia, including four as CFO of Telia Denmark. Deutsche Telekom said revenues in Germany increased by 1.9 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026 to EUR 6.34 billion. In organic terms, the increase was 2.1 percent, on account of higher service (+1.1%) and equipment revenues. Bouygues Telecom ups prices of fibre-only 8 Gbps offer to EUR 27/month

French operator Bouygues Telecom has raised the monthly rate of its standalone 8 Gbps package to EUR 26.99, up by EUR 1 per month. The offer, based on the XGS‑PON standard, was last updated in early February. At that time, it was renamed 'B&You Pure Fibre Plus' at a new monthly rate of EUR 25.99 to differentiate it from the 'B&You Pure Fibre' option, which remains priced at EUR 24.99 per month with a slower download speed of up to 2 Gbps.

Lumen plans new fibre route between Seattle and Minneapolis

Lumen Technologies plans to expand its US network with a new Northern fibre route called NorthLine, developed for AI data connectivity. This new low latency fibre route will directly connect Seattle to Minneapolis, and extend connectivity across an important northern US corridor between markets in the Pacific Northwest and central US. It will deliver 100G and 400G wavelength services.

Community Fibre launches promotion for new business customers

Community Fibre, London-based fibre broadband provider, has launched a new promotion for business customers offering three months of full-fibre broadband for free. The offer is available until 23.59 hours on 15 June, with business customers able to save up to GBP 1,380 on their broadband bills.

US fibre broadband provider Ezee Fiber has announces two executive appointments to support its next growth phase. Mo Aslani has been appointed Chief Financial Officer (CFO), with Pedro Checo promoted to the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO). Aslani joined the company at start-2024 and manages Finance & Accounting, Business Planning, Tax & Treasury, Procurement and Corporate Administration.

Nokia has announced that it is bringing new agentic AI features to fixed broadband management software platforms including Altiplano, Corteca and Broadband Easy. Onestream buys Cuckoo broadband customer base from AFPN

UK fibre broadband provider Onestream has signed an agreement to acquire the Cuckoo broadband customer base of AllPoints Fibre Networks (AFPN). This doubles the Onestream customer base to 150,000 broadband connections. Under the long-term agreement, all Cuckoo customer contracts, domain and brand will transfer to Onestream; with the customer connections remaining on AFPN's Aquila wholesale platform.

TX Fiber deploys Vecima's Entra XGS-PON kit for network upgrades

TX Fiber, a US internet provider active in southern Texas, has deployed Vecima Networks' Entra XGS-PON platform to underpin 10 Gbps network upgrades in the Rio Grande Valley.  Vecima said its customer will be among the first independent providers in the region to offer symmetrical services powered by a "fully modern" XGS-PON fibre platform, closing the gap on service tiers in major US metro markets.
