Deutsche Telekom unit premises searched in bribery investigation

The State Criminal Police in North Rhine-Westphalia searched the premises of Telekom Technik, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom in Bonn, on behalf of the Cologne public prosecutor's office, on suspicion of bribery related to the expansion of the German operator's fibre-optic network. The main suspect is a high-ranking employee of the company. Special units and tax investigators searched a total of 40 private and business premises in North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as bank safe deposit boxes.

PlatformX Communications (PXC), UK wholesale networking provider, has added Trooli Residential FTTP services to its platform. This further strengthens PXC's altnet portfolio, with residential partners able to access more than 477,000 homes on the Trooli rural and semi-rural network.

EQT, Omers ready to table EUR 1.25 bln refinancing package for Deutsche Glasfaser - report

The owners of Deutsche Glasfaser, EQT and Canadian pension fund Omers, are ready to table a refinancing package of EUR 1.25 billion for the German fibre operator, backed by lenders. The owners would inject around EUR 850 million for preferred equity, with the lenders putting in EUR 400 million of new super senior debt, according to a report in the Financial Times citing people familiar with the matter.

Morocco moves ahead with broadband coverage plan

Morocco has covered 10,690 out of 10,740 targeted areas with 2G, 3G and 4G services, according to a parliamentary briefing from Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, delegate minister for digital transition. This means the first phase of the National Broadband Development Plan has been nearly completed, and so the government has officially launched the second phase. This next stage aims to extend and enhance connectivity across an additional 2,000 rural areas by 2026, Moroccoworld News reported.

Ewb, Swisscom complete Bern fibre network build

Swiss utility Energie Wasser Bern (EWB) and Swisscom have almost completed construction of a fibre network in Bern. By end-2026, the network will connect over 15,000 premises with around 100,000 units - including private homes, offices and commercial businesses. This equates to over 90 percent of all premises across the city. The joint project is based on an agreement signed at end-201 - making Ewb responsible for around 70 percent of the network build, and Swisscom for 30 percent.

Mediacom completes Minnesota fibre projects ahead of schedule

Mediacom Communications has completed 12 broadband projects in Minnesota ahead of schedule, delivering high-speed connectivity to underserved and unserved communities. Over the last two years, these projects involved building over 400 miles of last-mile fibre infrastructure to deliver FTTH broadband connectivity to over 3,900 homes and businesses. They were delivered with support from the Minnesota Department of Employment & Economic Development (DEED).

South African fibre network operator Vuma has successfully connected 1,000 schools across the country, providing high-speed broadband access to approximately 860,000 learners and 40,000 teachers, ITWeb reported. The rollout started in 2020 forms part of parent company Maziv's broader strategy to expand digital infrastructure and support more inclusive online access nationwide. TDS Telecom acquires New Hampshire fibre broadband provider

TDS Telecom has announced an agreement to acquire fibre broadband and phone provider Granite State Communications. The deal will combine two adjacent broadband providers in New Hampshire, and is expected to close in Q3 2026. The acquisition adds over 11,000 fibre broadband premises to the TDS group. TDS Telecom has been operating in New Hampshire since 1970, owning five phone companies in the state.

1&1 starts services on OXG Glasfaser fibre network

OXG Glasfaser, the fibre network JV between Vodafone Germany and Altice, has started to offer 1&1 internet services on its network. The companies signed a long-term infrastructure partnership agreement last year. Under the agreement, 1&1's fibre backhaul was connected to OXG's regional infrastructure in a large number of cities and metropolitan areas. The marketing of 1&1 fibre services to customers in these areas has now started.

Open Dutch Fiber starts marketing push with pop-up shop, tour buses

Open Dutch Fiber (ODF) announced plans to open neighbourhood service centres. Started five years ago, the fibre network operator has reached over 1.5 million households covered by its FTTH network, and is now working on improving service take-up. The first shop opens in the Amsterdam Oud-West area, with a temporary outlet on the Kinkerstraat, and buses will be deployed to the cities of Hoorn and Roosendaal to serve local residents. Additional locations will follow.

Netgem fixes UK price of Pleio TV streaming device at GBP 99

Netgem has announced a new permanent price of GBP 99 for the Pleio TV streaming device in the UK. Managing Director Sylvian Thevenot said it had made the decision to absorb the costs of rising RAM prices, instead of passing them onto customers, to help drive user base growth. He said Netgem was focused on long-term market presence and keeping the product price at an accessible point to encourage customer take-up. Netgem has also confirmed the availability of the Pleio device on eBay in the UK.

UK fibre broadband provider Toob has announced the launch of three new speed options for home broadband customers. These are home300, offering speeds of 300 Mbps on the Toob network for everyday life; home600 with speeds of 600 Mbps on the Toob network for busier households; and home2300 with speeds of 2.3 Gbps on the Toob and CityFibre networks for high-demand homes, gamers and content creators.

Spain's Adamo brings gigabit FTTH to over 1,000 rural localities

Spanish rural broadband provider Adamo said it has reached the milestone of 1,000 towns with 500 or fewer inhabitants connected to its nationwide gigabit fibre-optic network. The figure is equivalent to around 40 percent of the 2,652 localities in Spain that meet these criteria.

Oman's mobile base grows to 8.3 mln on IoT expansion

Oman's mobile subscriptions reached 8.29 million in February, the Times of Oman reported citing data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information. Postpaid mobile services rose by 4 percent to 1.28 million subscriptions, while prepaid recorded a more modest 1 percent increase, reaching 5.34 million. IoT connections surged by 14 percent to 1.65 million.

US-based Vyve Broadband has appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO) Melanie Hannasch and Senior Vice President (SVP) of Engineering Guy McCormick as Co-Presidents, with immediate effect. The leadership appointments follow the departure of Andy Parrott. They will lead the next phase of growth for the company, bringing extensive operational and technical expertise to their new roles.

Huber+Suhner ramps up hollow core fibre production to meet Microsoft data centre demand

Huber+Suhner announced it's working with Microsoft to expand production of hollow core fibre (HCF) cables for more Azure data centres. Huber+Suhner works already with the Azure team in Romsey, UK (former Lumenisity, acquired by Microsoft in 2022) to develop and manufacture HCF cables and connectors. These products are already deployed in the Azure network, and the partners are now working on higher-capacity variants to support Microsoft's future scaling of its cloud infrastructure.

Open eir fibre network passes 1.5 million Irish premises

Irish wholesale telecoms provider open eir said its FTTH broadband network has now passed 1.5 million premises across Ireland. Open eir has now installed over 54,000km of fibre, connecting urban centres, villages and remote communities - backed by a EUR 2 billion multi-year fibre/5G network investment by parent company eir.

Valoo brings in scam protection based on Finnish banks' blacklists

Fibre operator and ISP Valoo said it is bolstering customer security by implementing protection based on Finnish banks' blacklists. It blocks access to known phishing scam websites and breaks the lifecycle of fraud campaigns much faster than before. Previously, it has taken several days in some cases for such sites to be taken down, during which time the criminals have had time to act and vanish into the digital depths.

Telus plans PureFibre service launch in Calgary-Bonavista

Telus plans to launch PureFibre services, with speeds of up to 5 Gbps, in the community of Calgary-Bonavista in Alberta - working in partnership with Fibre Connect (owner of the local FTTP network) and Ledcor (primary construction contractor). To date, Telus PureFibre services are available to more than 1.2 million premises across the province of Alberta, including over 120,000 in rural areas.

Altibox Carrier changes name to Midgard Infra

Altibox Carrier, which belongs to Lyse and HitecVision, is changing its name to Midgard Infra. It says the new identity reflects its evolution into a dedicated Nordic platform specialising in fulfilling structural demand for high-capacity connectivity driven by AI and the expanding data centre sector. The rebranding comes as the company strengthens its mission to become "the Nordic connectivity platform of choice".

Lyntia secures EUR 1.4 bln refinancing for Iberia expansion

Spanish wholesale fibre operator Lyntia Networks said it has completed a EUR 1.4 billion refinancing, extending its debt maturity profile to between 7 and 12 years and strengthening its long-term financial position to continue expanding across Iberian and international markets. The deal, which includes a new capital expenditure facility, brings together a diversified group of bank lenders and private placement investors.

WindTre cuts fibre price to under EUR 25 for a year

Italian operator WindTre has launched a promotion to give new subscribers access to its standalone fixed broadband plans for under EUR 25 a month for a year. Under the offer, existing customers pay EUR 24.99 a month for the 'Super Fibra' plan at speeds of up to 2.5 Gbps, compared to the usual price of EUR 29.99 a month, the latter having increased from EUR 28.99.
