US CTA backs FCC 6 GHz order enabling wider Wi-Fi access

The US Consumer Technology Association has welcomed the FCC's decision to expand Wi-Fi rights and other unlicensed wireless technologies in the sought-after 6 GHz frequency range. A statement from the association's CEO and executive chair, Gary Shapiro, thanked FCC chairman Brendan Carr for the decision, calling it "pro-innovation".

Entel lifts Q4 revenue 12% amid higher handset sales, EBITDA rises 9%

Entel has reported a 12.2 percent year-on-year rise in fourth quarter revenue to CLP 837.09 billion. In Chile, revenue was supported by higher handset income and fixed service revenue, whereas Peruvian sales were driven by higher service revenue and exchange rate effects, as well as handset sales. EBITDA at Entel in Q4 was 9.4 percent higher at CLP 226.83 billion and the margin narrowed to 27.0 percent form 27.8 percent.

O2 Slovakia launches Connect second Sim service to share data bundle with other devices

O2 Slovakia introduced the new data sharing service Connect for customers on unlimited mobile plans. They will be able to share data, SMS and voice bundles on multiple devices. The operator is also reducing the price of the service that allows clients to have one number on both their smartphone and smartwatch, so the monthly fee for eSIMs in smartwatches drops to EUR 4 from EUR 5.

Cape Verde nears 570,000 active SIM cards in Q3

Cape Verde recorded 568,203 active mobile SIM cards at the end of the third quarter of 2025. This represents a slight 0.21 percent decrease from the second quarter of 2025, but a 2 percent increase compared to the third quarter of 2024. According to the quarterly report from the multi-sectoral regulator ARME, the mobile service penetration rate stands at 114 percent. CVTelecom maintains its market leadership with a 68 percent share, followed by Unitel T+ at 32 percent.

Brazil rolls out 5G in rural areas of Paraiba state

The Brazilian government has launched 5G mobile service in the rural areas of Alagoa Grande, state of Paraiba, providing internet and phone access to over 4,000 residents in Zumbi and Canafístula. Previously, residents in these areas struggled with basic communication and app access. Now, they have a stable 5G signal thanks to an investment of BRL 769,000, the communications ministry announced. The connectivity is being provided by regional operator Brisanet.

Motorola Brasil has launched the new Moto G17, a smartphone designed for content creators. Key features include a 32 MP front camera and a 50 MP Sony Lytia 600 main camera; a Full HD+ display with HDR and 1000 nits brightness, paired with Dolby Atmos sound; a 5,200 mAh battery with a 20W TurboPower charger; and up to 12 GB of RAM (4 GB physical + 8 GB Smart Boost). The Moto G17 128 GB version costs BRL 1,299 and the 256 GB version is BRL 1,499.

Samsung upgrades Care+ device protection service across Europe

Samsung has announced an upgrade to the Samsung Care+ device protection service, which is available in 17 markets across Europe. From 29 January, customers selecting Samsung Care+ will benefit from new services and features - including unlimited repairs (instead of two repairs a year), protection for up to five years (up from 3 years), and 24/7 customer support.

Dutch pilot finds potential for shared spectrum systems in 3.8 GHz band

The Dutch spectrum management agency RDI has found potential for more sharing of radio frequency bands. A pilot conducted last year, the result of which are now published by the authority, found that Dynamic Spectrum Management and Sharing (DSMS) systems can allow for real-time distribution of the frequencies, creating space for new wireless applications while ensuring protection for incumbent users of licensed bands. The study focused on the 3.8-4.2 GHz range.

Digi Spain said it set a new record for number porting in January, with over 150,000 lines added to its network. That's an increase of 16.5 percent on January 2025 and a new record for the month. Mobile portings rose 15.5 percent to over 127,000, also a record for January.

GCT Semiconductor has agreed a licensing deal to supply its satellite-capable 5G and 4G RF chips to an unnamed client, described as one of the world's largest satcom providers. Belarusian operator Life has implemented a widget on its website that adapts the interface for customers with vision, hearing, memory, motor or other disabilities. The widget can adjust colours and text settings, stop animation and remove images, in order to emphasise titles and links. Tele2 Lithuania plans to increase the price of its mobile signature service from 01 March, reports Delfi.lt. The monthly rate will go up from EUR 1.99 to EUR 2.49. The operator confirmed the increase.

Telecom Argentina integrates Nokia core in 5G upgrade

Telecom Argentina announced it is adopting Nokia equipment for its 5G mobile core network, as part of a multi-vendor strategy for the Personal mobile network. The new core is rolling out first in the Buenos Aires metro area and other regions, including Mar del Plata, Tucuman, Rosario, and Cordoba, and will expand to other areas in the coming months. Personal has already completed integration and validation of the first network nodes and started migrating traffic.

Airtel Africa said its revenues increased by 24.6 percent year-on-year in constant currency to USD 4.67 billion in the nine months ended December 2025. For the third quarter, the company achieved 24.7 percent organic growth in revenues, and a 32.9 percent increase in reported currency. EBITDA grew by 35.9 percent in reported currency to USD 2.28 billion in the nine months, with the EBITDA margin expanding further to 48.9 percent from 46.2 percent in the prior period.

Apple buys start-up Q.AI to develop facial recognition

Apple has acquired the company Q.AI, an Israel-based startup working on AI to detect human intent through small changes in facial expression. The takeover was announced by one of Q.ai's investors, the venture capital firm GV, which said this was Apple's second-largest acquisition ever. Sources familiar with the deal told the Financial Times that Apple valued the company at close to USD 2 billion for the takeover.

Indian mobile operator Bharti Airtel has announced it will provide its 360 million customers across India with free access to Adobe Express Premium. Customers can now claim a 1-year subscription (worth INR 4,000) directly through the Airtel Thanks App without the need for a credit card. The Adobe Express Premium subscription will be available to all Airtel customers, including mobile, Wi-Fi and DTH customers.
