Uzbek mobile operator Mobiuz said that it has expanded the coverage of its 5G network in the Namangan region significantly. More than 80 5G base stations have been deployed in the region, including 41 in the city of Namangan.

Russian operator Beeline introduced the service Favourite Numbers, offering unlimited calls to up to five telephone numbers. The offer is available for numbers registered on other Russian mobile networks, as well as Beeline lines. New customers are offered a free weekly trial of the service, after which the monthly rate is RUB 290.

Polish MNVO Mobile Vikings announced that its subscriber base has reached the milestone of 200,000. The MVNO counted its first 100,000 customers nine years ago. The MVNO launched in Poland in December 2013 and works on the Play network.

Finnish telecoms regulator Traficom has awarded five stars to fourteen municipalities for their broadband connections this year. Service still varies greatly, especially in sparsely populated areas, but there are now only nine municipalities scoring less than two stars. The five-star municipalities are Espoo, Helsinki, Traskanda, Grankulla, Kempele, Kervo, Kotka, Lahtis, Jakobstad, Birkala, Reso, Riihimaki, Vaasa and Vantaa. Polkomtel signs term sheet with Towerlink, Cellnex

Polish operator Polkomtel has signed a non-binding term sheet with Towerlink Poland and Cellnex Poland laying out the terms of its future cooperation with the infrastructure companies. Under the service agreement, Towerlink will continue to provide Polkomtel with services based on the telecommunications infrastructure owned by Towerlink and controlled by Cellnex (including location-access services, emission services, and transmission services).

MTS offers to buy back smartphones for cash

Russian operator MTS introduced Smart Cash, an offer for customers to sell back smartphones and other electronic goods purchased in shops of the operator. The maximum repayment is 70 percent of the price of the device. The option is available in all regions where MTS operates. Repayment can reach up to 70 percent after six months from acquisition, and up 50 percent starting from the 182th day after acquisition.

E& Money, part of UAE operator E&'s fintech portfolio, introduced a new salary solution designed to simplify payroll for businesses. The platform integrates WPS compliance, automated salary processing, and Universal Accounts with IBAN access.  To further support companies, E& money is waiving all salary processing fees. Employers also benefit from a secure dashboard, payroll funding through IBAN, and real-time tracking with instant status updates, allowing HR teams to operate more efficiently.

Huawei is promoting a new contactless pay feature with its new Huawei Watch Fit 5 series. The smartwatch supports phone-free payments at any NFC contactless terminal with Curve Pay. CK Hutchison Group has reported a 15 percent year-on-year rise in revenue for its telecom holdings in the first quarter of 2026 to EUR 2.90 billion from EUR 2.51 billion year earlier. The total margin expanded by 11 percent to EUR 2.06 billion from EUR 1.86 billion. The number of active telecom customers climbed by 37 percent to 60.1 million by 31 March from 44.0 million in Q1 2025 and contract churn narrowed to 1.0 percent from 1.2 percent.

GCT Semi ships 3,000 5G RF units in Q1

GCT Semiconductor grew shipments of its 5G-capable RF chipsets by 58 percent quarter-on-quarter in the three months to 31 March. Q1 shipments reached 3,000 units as GCT progressed its commercial trajectory for 5G RF applications including satellite and air-to-ground platforms. The firm anticipates a further acceleration in the coming months due to additional orders from its lead customers, and is projecting sequential growth in 5G shipments through the remainder of 2026.

Revenues of T-Mobile Czech Republic totaled CZK 8 billion in the first quarter of this year, up by 3.8 percent year-on-year. EBITDA AL amounted to CZK 3.6 billion, up by 5.8 percent. The subscriber base grew by 1.7 percent to 6.63 million at the end of March.

Norwegian telecom infrastructure investments fall by around 10% in 2025

Investment in Norway's mobile networks fell by about NOK 1 billion from 2024 to around NOK 3.1 billion in 2025, according to regulator Nkom. Total spending on telecom assets declined by just under NOK 1.8 billion to NOK 9.96 billion last year. Swedish telecoms regulator PTS said applications for this year's broadband subsidy round are open until 26 August, with SEK 820 million available in 2026. There are 192,548 eligible buildings this year. The minimum project size is five buildings and applications can be made for up to SEK 15 million per project.

Unitel enhances 5G coverage in Saurimo

Angolan mobile operator Unitel announced that it improved voice and data services and 5G coverage in Saurimo, Lunda-Sul province. Following the upgrade its 4G networks extends to 57.4 percent of municipalities and 41.4 percent of communes, and 5G technology is present in 7.7 percent of municipalities and 5.2 percent of communes.

Sweden delays introducing 078 mobile phone number series to avoid summertime disruptions

Swedish telecoms regulator PTS is delaying the introduction of the 078 numbering series for mobile telephony services from 01 August until 01 October, in order to give market participants more time to implement the new system. A summer change was not considered optimal and might have caused operational disruptions. The introduction will create 9 million mobile telephone numbers.

Nigeria pressures telecom providers to improve service quality

The Nigerian government has issued a final warning to telecommunications operators, stating that recent reforms have "removed excuses" for poor service quality, The Sun reported. In a statement, ICT minister Bosun Tijani emphasized that subscribers must experience noticeable improvements in connectivity and value for services. He said operators have the financial capacity and enabling environment required to address persistent network challenges across the country.

Orange Poland opens orders for Oppo Find X9 Ultra

Orange Poland has started pre-sales of the smartphone Oppo Find X9 Ultra 5G in its shops. Customers connecting to the postpaid Plan L from the operator for 24 months are offered the device for PLN 6,459 (PLN 99 initial payment followed by PLN 265 per month). The device is offered for PLN 7,399 without the subscription contract.

Vodafone Spain lands anti-abuse bracelet contract - report

Vodafone Spain (Zegona) has outscored Orange Spain (MasOrange) in a public tender for the government's contract to provide anti-abuse tracking devices, according to documents seen by Expansion. The temporary joint venture between Vodafone and Securitas Seguridad scored higher than the proposal submitted by Orange and Verisure in 11 of the 12 criteria of the tender, with the former set to be awarded the contract worth up to EUR 110 million, said the report.

Terago revenue falls 3.8 percent in Q1 to CAD 6.17 million

Canadian wireless broadband provider Terago has reported revenue of CAD 6.17 million for Q1 2026, down 3.8 percent from CAD 6.41 million in the year-earlier quarter. This decrease was due to lower bookings during 2025 and delays to large, multi-site installations; offset partially by revenue from new customers during Q1. Adjusted EBITDA was down 9.8 percent year-on-year to CAD 931,000, from CAD 1.03 million in Q1 2025, on lower revenues.
