Polish tech industry group calls for greater flexibility in 5G private network rules

Polish ICT industry group Cyfrowa Polska has warned the draft plan for awarding the 3,800-4,200 MHz band issued by the regulator UKE may hinder the development of private 5G networks in Poland. The industry group supports the general direction of the proposed changes and the alignment of regulations with the EU legal framework. Nevertheless, there are specific areas where the adopted approach is more restrictive than technical analyses conducted by international institutions would suggest is needed.

GSA survey finds less than quarter of live 5G networks using standalone technology

Less than a quarter of 5G operators have launched standalone 5G networks, underlining the significant room for expansion still in the 5G market, a survey from the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) shows. As of the end of March, there were 95 operators with 5G standalone networks live, up 42 percent from a year earlier, while the total number of 5G networks worldwide rose 14 percent in the same period, to 392.

Honor has confirmed the global launch of its new 600 series smartphones. AT&T Mexico reported a 20.8 percent year on year rise in revenues to USD 1.17 billion in the first quarter of 2026, attributed to the favourable impact of foreign exchange rates, coupled with higher equipment sales and subscriber growth. Morocco moves ahead with broadband coverage plan

Morocco has covered 10,690 out of 10,740 targeted areas with 2G, 3G and 4G services, according to a parliamentary briefing from Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, delegate minister for digital transition. This means the first phase of the National Broadband Development Plan has been nearly completed, and so the government has officially launched the second phase. This next stage aims to extend and enhance connectivity across an additional 2,000 rural areas by 2026, Moroccoworld News reported.

Russian mobile operator T2, a subsidiary of the national operator Rostelecom, has expanded its partnership with Russian Post, reports Kommersant. The operator has started selling smartphones with SIMs in Russian Post offices. The operator also tests sales of smartwatches with SIMs in post offices in certain regions. The cooperation covers more than 2,200 post offices in 60 regions.

Syria announced the successful test of its first Voice over LTE (VoLTE) call, marking a significant step in the country's telecommunications modernization, transitioning from legacy circuit-switched calls to a fully IP-based system, Alsourya reported.  The pilot was conducted on MTN Syria's new IMS platform, enabling faster call connection, clearer audio, and simultaneous high-speed data browsing.

AT&T Q1 revenue rises 3% amid strong internet customer net additions

US operator AT&T has reported a 2.8 percent year-on-year increase in revenues in the first quarter of 2026 to USD 31.5 billion. Chairman and CEO John Stankey called it the best first quarter ever for Advanced Connectivity internet customer net additions. Adjusted EBITDA was USD 11.80 billion, up by 2.3 percent from USD 11.53 billion in Q1 2025. Diluted EPS from continuing operations fell to USD 0.54 from versus USD 0.61 in Q1 2025, but adjusted EPS rose to USD 0.57, up from USD 0.51 a year earlier.

Tele2 Latvia revenues up 6% in Q1, EBITDA grows over 11%

Revenues of Tele2 Latvia totaled EUR 45.7 million in the first quarter, up by 5.8 percent year-on-year. EBITDAaL rose nearly twice as fast, rising 11.4 percent to EUR 21.5 million. Capital expenditure of the company amounted to EUR 4 million and increased mainly due to higher lease related investments, attributable to the sale of its tower. Net intake in the quarter was positive in mobile postpaid with 6,000 RGUs, and negative in mobile prepaid with a loss of 12,000 RGUs.

Bango said that it has signed Direct Carrier Billing (DCB) agreements with two new mobile operators: Telin (Hong Kong), a subsidiary of Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom), and LMT in Latvia. Both operators have selected Bango following competitive tender processes, migrating their existing DCB services from incumbent providers to the Bango platform.

Finnish caller identification service provider Fonecta said that over 50,000 users of the Fonecta Caller app provided with its Caller Pro subscription have blocked phone numbers almost 700,000 times in the past year. Research done for Fonecta by Iro in February has found that only 25 percent of Finns never block unknown numbers. Traficom reports more GNSS interference in spring 2026 near Finnish border with Russia

Finnish transport and communications regulator Traficom has reported a rise in interference affecting satellite navigation (GNSS) and mobile networks during 2026. This particularly affects aviation in southern and central Finland. Disruptions to mobile communications have a localised impact in south-eastern Finland in areas very close to the eastern border with Russia. However, the effects on mobile networks are limited as they have their own, secure time synchronisation arrangements.

Freshwave Group, UK-based connectivity-as-a-service provider, has launched the new '5G on Omni' solution to provide UK organisations with guaranteed indoor 5G connectivity from all mobile network operators (MNOs). This expands Freshwave's Omni Network, a 4G indoor small cell solution. The Omni Network solution has gone live in over 6 million sq ft of real state or in-build since launch in June 2024.
