Polish operator Play, controlled by Iliad, announced the best-selling smartphones in its shops in 2025. The top sellers, in alphabetical order, were the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G, Samsung Galaxy A36 5G, Samsung Galaxy A56 5G, Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G. Among premium devices (also in alphabetical order) the bestsellers were the Apple iPhone 15 128 GB, Apple iPhone 16 128 GB, Apple iPhone 16 Pro 128 GB, Samsung Galaxy S24 FE 5G 128 GB and Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra 5G 256 GB.

Keysight Technologies said it has achieved a new radio non-terrestrial networks (NR-NTN) connection in band n252 using Samsung Electronics' next-generation modem chipset. The demonstration took place at CES 2026 in Las Vegas and included live satellite-to-satellite (SAT-to-SAT) mobility using commercial-grade modem silicon and cross-vendor interoperability. The n252 band is expected to be adopted by next-generation low Earth orbit (LEO) constellations and this validation follows those for n255 and n256.

Vodafone has more active SIMs than One Albania in Q3

In the third quarter of 2025, Albania saw a 3.8 percent quarter-on-quarter increase in active mobile SIM cards, reaching 3.39 million, but a 10.2 percent drop compared with the same period in 2024. Vodafone Albania reported 1.70 million users, surpassing One Albania with 1.68 million, according to data from telecom regulator Akep.

During the 2025 holiday season, Yettel Hungary customers set new records for mobile internet and TV usage, with significant increases compared to the previous year. Between 24 December and 1 January, mobile internet traffic surged by nearly 30 percent, reaching almost 30 million GB of data consumed – the highest ever recorded. Over a third (34%) of all data traffic in December was carried over the 5G network. TV viewing also saw a boost, with households spending approximately 10 per cent more time watching

FIFA has signed an agreement to convert TikTok into its first-ever "Preferred Platform" to boost global access and fan engagement ahead of this summer's World Cup football tournament. Orange Poland has introduced a promotion for VoLTE smartphones aimed at customers handing in obsolete devices after the operator switched off its 3G network in December. Orange is sending messages about the promotion to postpaid customers who are using smartphones that only support GSM/3G services. Customers can obtain a discount of up to PLN 500.

MTN Mobile Money Uganda has announced its 2026 'Win school fees for a year and more' campaign. This is the third year that the operator has run the campaign. Parents and guardians can take part by paying their child's school fees via MoMo by dialing star 165 star 80 hash and completing their payment digitally. Schools and bursars that register to collect school fees through MoMo could win a school van.

UK's Teleauora picks Airspan mmWave radio for FWA deployments

Teleauora announced a new collaboration with Airspan Networks to use the latter's radio equipment for providing fixed-wireless access in the UK. Airspan will provide Teleauora with its latest Air5G 7200 mmWave radio, enabling the deployment of high-capacity fixed-wireless networks in challenging and hard-to-reach environments. The operator will target several identified sites across the UK where reliable, high-speed connectivity has historically been limited or unavailable.

ACES and BSNL supply connectivity for Noida International Airport with NOC-SOC from Tech Mahindra

ACES India and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have announced an agreement to deploy telecoms and digital connectivity infrastructure at Noida International Airport. Last month, Tech Mahindra unveiled a deal to set up and run a Network and Security Operations Centre (NOC-SOC) for Noida airport, which is expected to handle between 60 million and 120 million passengers by 2050.

Belgium drops plans for 26 GHz auction after little market interest

The Belgian mobile operators are not interested in the 26 GHz band, despite the EU naming this one of the pioneer bands for 5G. The latest market consultation by regulator Bipt found only Proximus interested, but then only if licence prices were much lower and the limits on electromagnetic radiation were relaxed in Brussels and Wallonia regions. Telenet and Orange Belgium said they did not see a need yet for the 26 GHz band, and Citymesh did not respond to the consultation which closed in November.

French operators step up pace of 5G activations in December

The footprint of 5G cell sites emitting a signal across mainland France increased by 757 during December, reaching 45,955 as of 01 January, according to spectrum agency ANFR. This monthly increase was up from 445 in November and 701 in the year-earlier period. All four network operators accelerated the pace of 5G site activations, led by Orange with 521 additional sites across the 700 MHz, 2.1 GHz and 3.5 GHz bands.

Citymesh tests connected drones with Ardennes fire service

Belgian operator Citymesh announced a new partnership with the fire service in the Flemish Ardennes region to deploy connected drones to support their work. The trial will see drones placed at four locations - Oudenaarde, Ronse, Zottegem and Kruisem - so they can be deployed in minutes if needed to assist during a call-out for the fire service. They can send live images to the dispatch centre and first-line intervention teams, helping them prepare en route to the fire.

Africell Sierra Leone has launched a SIM-based online child protection service called Kidzonet to enable parents and guardians to manage and track their child's social media and online content consumption. Kidzonet operates directly at SIM level, letting parents activate and manage content controls. It filters and blocks content considered inappropriate for minors but leaves standard voice calls and SMS unaffected.

NCC and Central Bank of Nigeria plan refund framework for failed airtime and data transactions

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have drawn up a framework to address consumer complaints about unsuccessful airtime and data transactions during network downtimes, system glitches or human input errors. Implementation is expected to commence on 01 March. This follows months of discussions involving the NCC, CBN, mobile network operators (MNOs), value added service (VAS) providers, deposit money banks (DMBs) and other relevant stakeholders.
