Digital inclusion support could help UK switch off DTT system in 2030s - study

The UK could fully transition to internet-delivered TVs in the 2030s if the governments sets a clear timetables and funds targeted support for those most at risk of digital exclusion, according to new research prepared for Sky. The 'Stream On: The Future of UK TV" report, prepared by Oliver & Ohlbaum Associates, shows that most UK viewers have already made the switch - with 94 percent of UK adults having home internet access and 92 percent using a VoD service.

Cape Verde nears 570,000 active SIM cards in Q3

Cape Verde recorded 568,203 active mobile SIM cards at the end of the third quarter of 2025. This represents a slight 0.21 percent decrease from the second quarter of 2025, but a 2 percent increase compared to the third quarter of 2024. According to the quarterly report from the multi-sectoral regulator ARME, the mobile service penetration rate stands at 114 percent. CVTelecom maintains its market leadership with a 68 percent share, followed by Unitel T+ at 32 percent.

Italian GDP strengthens in Q4, leading to 0.7% annual growth

Italian GDP expanded in the fourth quarter of 2025 by 0.3 percent on a quarterly basis and by 0.8 percent year-on-year, according to the preliminary, seasonally adjusted figures from Istat. TIM Brasil and Vivo were the top performers in Opensignal's latest 'Brazil Mobile Network Experience' report, with each winning six of 14 available awards. Over 40% of Portuguese listen to online radio

Around 3.51 million people (40.9% of the population aged 15 and over) in mainland Portugal listen to radio online. This figure has doubled in the last decade, according to the 2025 Marktest Radio Barometer study. The number of people listening to online radio in the "last 30 days" and "last 7 days" has risen from 14.5 percent and 9.2 percent in 2015 to 29.3 percent and 22.1 percent in 2025, respectively.

YouTube has withdrawn from a TV viewership measurement service operated by TV ratings agency Barb and Kantar Media, reports the Financial Times. YouTube parent Google is understood to have sent a legal 'case and desist' letter to Kantar Media just months after the launch of the new measurement service in summer 2025.

New research shows quarter of Brits have used travel eSIM

New research from CCS Insight shows strong awareness of eSIM in the UK, with almost three quarters of UK consumers having heard of eSIM, up from 22 percent in the 2022 survey. The 8th annual survey of consumer buying behaviour for mobile phones and connectivity shows rising demand for travel eSIM, with almost one quarter of Brits using a travel eSIM provider - increasing to one third (32%) of people who have taken an overseas holiday in the last three years.

Russian mobile accessories revenues up 8% in 2025

The Russian market for mobile accessories reached 48.7 million devices in 2025, up by 35 percent year-on-year, according to data from the mobile and electronics retail chain M.Video. Sales revenues amounted to around RUB 35.8 billion, up by 8 percent. Chargers were the main driver of unit sales.

GenAI has its mainstream breakthrough in the Netherlands in 2025, according to research from Deloitte. Over three-quarters of people (76%) said at year-end that they were familiar with generate AI and 61 percent had used the technology. Usage is mainly private (83%), although around half say they have used AI apps at work (52%). Young people are the most avid adopters, according to the survey of around 2,000 people.

Comparison site reports small drop in broadband switchers for fibre in 2025

Six out of ten households in the Netherlands that changed broadband subscription in 2025 chose a fibre service. That is less than the previous year (66%) but slightly more than in 2023 (57%), according to figures from the comparison site Overstappen.nl. It attributes the lower rate to more people already having a fibre broadband service.

The global broadband access equipment market will expand at a compound average rate (CAGR) of just 0.3 percent annually from 2025 to 2030, according to Dell'Oro Group. The headline forecast is lower than in the July 2025 estimate from the market researcher. Digi emerged as the most competitive provider in Portugal in December 2025, offering the lowest minimum monthly fees for nine out of eleven analysed service packages, including standalone mobile telephony (EUR 4), triple play (EUR 21), and quadruple play (EUR 24) packages. Macau mobile market sees slight growth in December 2025

Macau's mobile market slightly reversed its downward trend in December 2025, adding 792 lines compared with the previous month. This brought the total number of lines to 1.49 million at year-end, according to data from the sector regulator, CTT. A breakdown of the figures shows that 868,599 users were on postpaid 5G services, followed by 262,347 on prepaid 5G. Postpaid LTE users numbered 230,709, while 133,558 remained on prepaid LTE.

LexisNexis Intellectual Property Solutions has released its 2026 report on the global 5G patent landscape, showing Huawei, Qualcomm, Samsung and Ericsson continuing to lead the race for 5G standard-essential patents. The annual report, Who Is Leading the 5G Patent Race?, analyses declared and active 5G patent families, portfolio value indicators and contributions to 3GPP standards. It estimates the global 5G licensing market is worth around USD 15 billion per year.

Ofcom seeks views on impact of AI in telecoms sector

UK regulator Ofcom is seeking views on how the experience of telecoms customers is affected by artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This follows a rapid increase in the use of AI tools by telecoms providers and customers. Comments and submissions can be made until 10 March 2026, with Ofcom aiming to publish its analysis and additional research in second-half 2026.

Mts's 5G network best in Serbia's major cities – Net Check

Analysis conducted by German company Net Check in December 2025 across Serbia's five largest cities (Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis, Kragujevac, Subotica) revealed that Mts achieved the superior performance in all aspects of its 5G network. Mts scored 990 out of a possible 1,000 points, excelling in both data transfer and 5G signal coverage. The 5G coverage in these key urban areas reached 96.55 percent, ranking the Telekom Srbija company first among all operators in each city.

T-Mobile leads Polish mobile broadband speeds in RFBenchmark study

T-Mobile had the fastest 5G network in Poland in 2025, according to a study from RFBenchmark. The operator demonstrated average downloads at 399.3 Mbps and uploads at 61.1 Mbps. Orange Poland, which shares network infrastructure with T-Mobile, followed with downloads at 364.6 Mbps and uploads at 58.6 Mbps. Play, controlled by Iliad, achieved speeds of 211.7 Mbps and 51.4 Mbps, respectively, while Polkomtel, trading under the Plus brand, followed with 127.1 Mbps and 28.0 Mbps.

O2 Czechia named fastest mobile broadband in H2 2025 by Ookla

O2 Czech Republic has the best mobile broadband speeds in the country in the second half of 2025, according to Speedtest data collected by Ookla. The operator demonstrated an average download speed of 125.07 Mbps and uploads at 28.05 Mbps. T-Mobile Czech Republic followed with downloads at 115.67 Mbps and uploads at 24.23 Mbps, and Vodafone Czech Republic averaged 48.95 Mbps and 15.11 Mbps, respectively.

Global RAN market set for 1% CAGR over next 5 years with lift from 6G advent - Dell'Oro

The global radio access network (RAN) market will expand at a compound average growth rate (CAGR) of 1 percent over the next five years, predicts Dell'Oro Group. Rapidly declining LTE revenues will offset continued 5G and initial 6G investments, it says. Even so, its 'Mobile RAN 5-Year January 2026 Forecast Report' says there could be "material 6G revenue" by 2030. RAN as a share of wireless capex is expected to average in the 20 to 25 percentage share range over the forecast period.
