Icelandic mobile data traffic grows 8% in 2025 but mobile subscribers stay flat

There was no change in the number of mobile phone subscriptions in Iceland year on year in 2025, according to regulator Fjarskiptastofa. Its annual statistical report for the telecoms sector says mobile network data traffic expanded by 7.6 percent year on year. Call minutes from mobile phones fell by 0.8 percent to 1.07 billion.

New research from UK regulator Ofcom shows that mobile network service quality on trains is poor, with Ofcom calling for a nationwide effort to boost mobile service quality across the UK. Chileans port 844,000 numbers in Q1, led by Claro and Mundo

A total of 844,000 fixed and mobile numbers were ported in Chile in the first quarter of 2026, the vast majority of which – 836,000 – were mobile numbers. The latest update from telecommunications regulator Subtel also revealed that the month of March saw more than 262,000 fixed and mobile numbers ported, up 3.6 percent year on year. Of these, 258,000 were mobile numbers, up 4.4 percent compared to the same month in 2025.

Starlink becomes Australia's second-largest broadband network

Starlink became Australia's second-largest broadband network provider by services in December 2025, according to newly published Internet Activity data from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). The satellite operator supplied 589,000 retail and wholesale broadband services at the end of December, up from 400,000 six months earlier. The total included 552,000 retail services, an increase of 177,000, and 37,000 wholesale services, up by 12,000.

Megafon leads by mobile broadband speed in Moscow in H2

Russian operator Megafon said that it led the market by mobile broadband speed in Moscow in the second half of 2025, according to a study by the company Megabitus. The average download speed on Megafon's network in the capital city was 58.9 Mbps and the average upload speed was 16.77 Mbps. Its download speed was 30 percent faster than that of its nearest competitor.

Portuguese mobile internet users surge 6% in Q1

Despite a slight decrease of 0.3 percent in the total number of active mobile lines in Portugal to 13.5 million during the first quarter of 2026, mobile internet users rose by 6.5 percent to 11.4 million. According to Anacom data, 5G technology accounted for 44.6 percent of mobile lines (+10.9%) and 52.8 percent of all mobile internet users, totalling 6.0 million (+38.3%).

Montenegro mobile market rises 4% year on year in April

Montenegro's mobile market reached 1.41 million users at the end of April 2026, an increase of 0.55 percent on the previous month and of 4.15 percent year-on-year, according to data from telecom market regulator Ekip. The country boasts a high mobile penetration rate of 226.8 percent, with postpaid subscriptions making up the majority (62.71%). M:tel is the market leader with a 41.92 percent share, followed by Crnogorski Telekom (36.21%) and One Crna Gora (21.87%).

Everyone TV has published new research from 3 Reasons forecasting that Freely PSB streaming platform will be in 10.5 million UK homes by 2034. The analysis also expects the number of UK homes without broadband to drop to 220,000 by 2034, equal to 0.8 percent of TV homes. The number of UK homes without broadband currently stands at 1.2 million, after a 30 percent drop between 2023 and 2025. Nearly 7 in 10 Peruvians using messaging apps

The percentage of Peruvian users using instant messaging services increased to 68.6 percent at the end of 2025, according to data from the annual Residential Survey of Telecommunications Services (Erestel) cited by telecommunications regulator Osiptel. WhatsApp continued as the most popular instant messaging service in Peru, used by some 98.6 percent of the total, followed by Facebook Messenger with 45.1 percent, TikTok direct messages (27.9%) and Instagram with 20.5 percent.

Moldova crosses milestone of 732,000 ported numbers since 2013

The Republic of Moldova reached 732,000 ported numbers since the launch of the number portability system in 2013. Around 67,751 numbers were ported in 2025 alone, according to a report from Moldova telecoms regulator ANRCETI. Of the total numbers ported last year, 63,719 (94%) were mobile numbers, and 4,032 (6%) were fixed numbers.

Beeline Russia reports 2% rise in PBX subscribers base in 2025

Russian operator Beeline has announced that its PBX subscriber base increased by 1.8 percent year-on-year in 2025. This was the best performance among the top five Russian providers of PBX services, according to a study bu TMT Consulting.

Xfinity wins three categories in US fixed broadband experience tests

Comcast's Xfinity brand has won three categories in the latest 'US Fixed Broadband Experience Report' from Opensignal. Xfinity came top for Video Experience, Download Speed and Consistent Quality. Xfinity achieved consistent quality in 83.7 percent of tests; followed by Verizon (83.3%), Spectrum (81.7%), AT&T (79.7%) and T-Mobile (78.8%).

US smartphone shipments reached 33.4 million units in Q1 2026, down 3 percent from Q1 2025, according to the latest data from Omdia. The year-earlier quarter was inflated by vendors/carriers building up inventory ahead of potential tariff announcements by the US government. US smartphone shipments in Q1 2026 were also impacted by fewer carrier upgrades, increasing storage/memory costs and delayed handset launches.

Portuguese telecom prices fall 2% year on year in April

Telecommunication prices in Portugal continued their downward trend in April, according to Anacom. Compared with March 2026, prices fell by 0.9 percent in April, and year-on-year, they were down by 2.2 percent. Over the past twelve months, the average decrease was 1.6 percent, said the regulator.

Digi Spain adds 776,000 lines through porting in first 5 months of 2026

Digi Spain has added a record 776,000 new lines through number porting in the year to the end of May 2026, up 16 percent year on year. In May alone, Digi reported over 138,700 number portings, its 21st straight month and seventh consecutive quarter in excess of 100,000.

Internet subscriptions now outnumber television subscriptions in Hungary, according to the latest report from the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH). In the fourth quarter of 2025, the number of residential internet lines surpassed broadcasting service subscriptions by 30,000.

Portuguese fixed telephony market shrinks 1% in Q1

The number of fixed telephony customers in Portugual reached 4.4 million in Q1 2026, a decrease of 60,000 (1.3%) year-on-year, according to Anacom data. While residential customers made up the vast majority of connections (75.4%), they generated only 29.1 percent of the total call traffic. Bundled offers accounted for 98.0 percent of fixed telephone lines.
