Capita signs 4-year contact centre contract renewal with European telco

Capita's contact centre division has won a 4-year contract extension with a major telecoms provider in Europe. The contract is worth GBP 62 million and runs from January 2026. Capita will continue providing customer services across different lines of business, including inbound sales, chat/messaging and technical support. It will also deploy Centrical and AI-enabled tools to boost performance across key metrics such as sales conversion, Net Promoter Score (NPS) and average handling time.

The EU's Smart Networks and Services joint undertaking (SNS JU) has announced its two-year work programme for 2026-2027, including USD 240 million for research and innovation activities. EU to draft net neutrality guidelines for 5G network slicing

EU telecoms regulator Berec is calling for input on 5G network slicing in an effort to set guidelines for the market on how to ensure the services comply with the EU's 'net neutrality' rules. Berec said some stakeholders have expressed concern about the compatibility of new 5G slicing services with the EU's Open Internet regulation, and the European Commission has also called for greater legal certainty. As a result, the assembly of EU telecom regulators plans to draft additional guidance for the market.

EU adopts fair-use rules for voluntary move to intra-EU calls at domestic rates

EU operators may opt out of caps on the price of calls between EU countries, if they charge the same for domestic and EU calls, according to a new regulation published by the European Commission. This is part of the compromise agreed in the Gigabit Infrastructure Act, which extended the prices caps on intra-EU calls to June 2032. The measure is expected to encourage an end to differentiated pricing for international calls across the EU, making the regulated caps no longer necessary.

Swedish cybersecurity company Clavister said it has fully repaid its outstanding loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB), including accrued interest and related warrants. Ariane 6 rocket launches 2 more Galileo satellites

Two Galileo satellites lifted off from Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana aboard an Ariane 6 rocket on 17 December, marking the fourteenth Galileo constellation launch, according to the European Space Agency (ESA). It said SAT 33 and SAT 34 were launched at 06:01 CET and separated from the launcher after a flight of less than four hours. At 10:51 CET, the launch was declared successful.

Sewan promotes Lefrique to customer service director

Unified communications provider Sewan has promoted Julie Lefrique to the position of customer service director, reports Distributique. She will be supported by Alan Benedict, who has been recently appointed deputy customer service director. Together, Lefrique and Benedict will lead Sewan's customer service operations and manage a combined workforce of more than 160 employees across three countries, including France. Benedict will also continue to oversee the technical support team.

Researchers from Ericsson, the i2CAT Research Centre, Vicomtech and Capgemini have successfully demonstrated new capabilities in holographic communication and Extended Reality (XR) as part of the European 6G-XR research project. The partners validated two use cases that show how upcoming 6G networks can support high-performance immersive services, including real-time holograms powered by advanced edge computing.

Netherlands to take over chair of European Media Board in 2026

Amma Asante, chair of the Dutch media regulator CvdM, has been elected chair also of the European Media Board. She replaces Carlos Aguilar from Spanish regulator CNMC at the head of the EU body from January 2026. The Media Board brings together the national media regulators from the EU member states to coordinate their work and implementation of EU legislation.

The industry group NLconnect has published an updated list of Russian media websites subject to EU sanctions. While the EU does not publish an official list, the Dutch group compiled the list based on information from various national regulators in order to assist internet service providers in complying with the sanctions. The ISPs are expected to block access to these Russian information sources which are considered sources of war propaganda.

AtlasEdge to sell nine European data centres to Templus

European data centre provider AtlasEdge has agreed to sell nine of its facilities across key European cities to Templus, a Southern European data centre platform backed by ICG. The sites span Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Zurich, Paris, Amsterdam, London, Leeds and Copenhagen, said AtlasEdge, which will maintain operations until completion of the deal, expected in the first half of 2026.

UK, EU hold third Cyber Dialogue in Brussels

UK and European officials held the third UK-EU Cyber Dialogue on 09-10 December in Brussels. The meeting was co-chaired by Irfan Hemani, Deputy Director of Cyber Security Policy at the UK Department of Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT); and Andrew Whittaker, Cyber Director in the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Officer (FCDO). The parties agreed to hold the next meeting in London in 2026.

A benchmark study comparing seven countries has found that France offers the lowest retail price for a triple-play package combining fibre (at least 1 Gbps), a phone line, and a standard TV service. The finding comes from the latest annual research commissioned by French telecom federation FFTelecoms and carried out by EY-P (Ernst & Young's strategy consulting arm). Microsoft cuts commercial cloud service prices in some European currencies in February

Microsoft has announced lower prices from 01 February for its commercial cloud services in euros, Swiss francs, and in Danish, Norwegian and Swedish crowns. The aim is to bring prices into line in different locations so that customers are charged consistent rates regionally. On-premises software costs will not change.

Sopra Steria appoints new CEO from Expleo

IT services and consulting group Sopra Steria has announced that Rajesh Krishnamurthy will succeed Cyril Malarge as CEO on 2 February 2026. Krishnamurthy joins Sopra Steria from engineering, technology, and consulting services provider Expleo, where he has served as CEO since June 2020. Prior to that, he was executive vice president at French shipping and logistics group CMA CGM, following more than a decade at Indian IT company Infosys.

Genexis has announced three product additions to its Aura range of integrated residential gateways targeting service provider distribution. The new Aura XGS785, PX780 and PX785 offer dual-band Wi-Fi 7 connectivity with 4x4 MIMO streams in 2.4 GHz links and 5x5 MIMO in 5 GHz. Each gateway hosts a 10G optical WAN port and 10G Ethernet LAN interface, and runs Genexis's OpenWRT-based software which incorporates TR-069/369-compliant remote management tools.

Telia receives A score from Carbon Disclosure Project

Telia Company said the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) has been awarded it an A score for the first time in recognition of its efforts in corporate transparency and climate change action. The score puts Telia in the top 4 percent of companies assessed by CDP, the operator said. CDP has assessed almost 20,000 companies in 2025 for their depth of reporting, understanding of environmental risks and evidence of best practice in terms of setting targets and of verified action.

GTT provides global network for Jysk home furnishings chain

GTT Communications said Denmark-based home furnishings company Jysk has selected it to create a global network combining Ethernet and Cloud Connect services to link stores, depots and cloud environments. Jysk is deploying a unified omnichannel platform to connect its physical shops, e-commerce business, customer service centres and delivery operations worldwide. Antin Infrastructure Partners has agreed to acquire NorthC Datacenters, a data centre operator and colocation services provider with sites in the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland, from DWS. Based in Amsterdam, NorthC operates 25 data centres with more than 140 MW of grid capacity to support future growth.

Xplora holds 90% of Doro after buyout, Xplora chairman's company sells 3% stake

Children's smartwatch vendor Xplora said it now holds 90.1 percent of the shares in Doro after its buy-out offer for the mobile phone company. Nasdaq Stockholm has approved Doro's de-listing from the Small Cap index, and the last day of trade will be 17 December. Xplora also announced that Passesta, a company associated with board chairman Tore Engebretsen, has sold 1.20 million shares in Xplora, representing a 2.68 percent stake.
