Telefonica Germany has announced the launch of the new 'O2 TV' offering from 06 May, bundling live TV and streaming into a single package at a discounted price. WBD extends coverage of Giro d'Italia cycling races in US, Europe

Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) has signed a long-term extension agreement for the exclusive rights to show the Giro d'Italia and Giro d'Italia Women races to viewers in Europe and the US. The deal also includes top men's and women's Italian road cycling races. The races will be broadcast on HBO Max in the US and Europe, Eurosport in 50 markets across Europe, and on TNT Sports in the UK/Ireland. The long-term deal extends WBD coverage of the Giro d'Italia to more than 30 years.

T2 starts smartphone sales at Russian Post outlets

Russian mobile operator T2, a subsidiary of the national operator Rostelecom, has expanded its partnership with Russian Post, reports Kommersant. The operator has started selling smartphones with SIMs in Russian Post offices. The operator also tests sales of smartwatches with SIMs in post offices in certain regions. The cooperation covers more than 2,200 post offices in 60 regions.

Orange Poland has a promotion for customers connecting to two Plan L tariffs, offering the monthly bundle for PLN 50 per plan or half price for the first year. The Plan L includes unlimited voice, data and SMS/MMS services and normally costs PLN 100 per month. The customers also can get discounts on the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G 8/256 GB, Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G 8/256 GB and Motorola Moto G86 5G Power 12/256 GB smartphones.

Hungarians prefer fixed over mobile internet at home - study

Mobile internet in Hungary complements, rather than replaces, wired home internet services, according to a 2025 study by the National Media and Communications Authority (NMHH). While mobile internet use has become more widespread than fixed-line services, most households (over 70%) use both, with only 8 percent relying solely on mobile internet. Exclusive mobile internet users are more likely to be those with lower incomes or single-person households, the study found.

Open Dutch Fiber starts marketing push with pop-up shop, tour buses

Open Dutch Fiber (ODF) announced plans to open neighbourhood service centres. Started five years ago, the fibre network operator has reached over 1.5 million households covered by its FTTH network, and is now working on improving service take-up. The first shop opens in the Amsterdam Oud-West area, with a temporary outlet on the Kinkerstraat, and buses will be deployed to the cities of Hoorn and Roosendaal to serve local residents. Additional locations will follow.

Samsung Electronics Japan and East Japan Railway Company (JR East) have agreed to collaborate on integrating Suica services into Samsung Wallet for international travellers visiting Japan. The companies aim to enable the use of the "Welcome Suica Mobile" application on Samsung Galaxy smartphones sold overseas from the first half of 2027. The service is intended to allow visitors to use public transport and make payments in Japan immediately after arrival using their devices.

Naver Webtoon reports increase in paid revenue following anti-piracy measures

South Korea's Naver Webtoon said enhancements to its anti-piracy system have led to an increase in paid content revenue, according to a report covering the first quarter of 2026. The company stated that its "ToonRadar" system, which is designed to prevent the early distribution of pirated webtoon content, has contributed to a 23 percent average rise in paid transactions across analysed titles. The findings were published in its "ToonRadar Report: Q1 2026".

Russian operator Megafon, in cooperation with Sber bank, has launched a new option for automatic top-ups called Smart Automated Payment. The service keeps the balance positive by analysing usage and expected spending for the coming 30 days. The accounted i topped up enough to cover the expected expenses, plus a RUB 20 reserve. The service is available on the bank's mobile application which handles the direct debits.

Orange Slovakia has introduced a new line of 'Super Flat rate' monthly mobile packages, named S, M, L and XL. The operator said these come with bigger data bundles including a loyalty bonus, unlimited data after using up the bundle with an improved fair use policy, and a choice of benefits like free international calls or unlimited data days. Sony has announced the introduction of age verification for PlayStation users in the UK and Ireland. Sony said the age checks are being introduced to ensure that users are provided with the best PlayStation experience for their age, and to protect younger users from inappropriate content. It is advising customers to complete age verification as soon as possible to avoid any service disruption. In-game communications and other features will be blocked from June 2026 to users who have not verified their age.

Bell has launched a new brand identity called Bell GPCanada, the official promoter of the F1 Grand Prix du Canada. This new brand identity strengthens the role of Bell as owner, promoter and official broadcaster of the Canadian F1 Grand Prix event. Mirko Bibic, President and CEO of BCE and Bell Canada, said the new unified identity boosts Bell's presence across the Grand Prix, and reflects the group's long-term commitment to the event.

Netgem fixes UK price of Pleio TV streaming device at GBP 99

Netgem has announced a new permanent price of GBP 99 for the Pleio TV streaming device in the UK. Managing Director Sylvian Thevenot said it had made the decision to absorb the costs of rising RAM prices, instead of passing them onto customers, to help drive user base growth. He said Netgem was focused on long-term market presence and keeping the product price at an accessible point to encourage customer take-up. Netgem has also confirmed the availability of the Pleio device on eBay in the UK.

Vectra extends cooperation with Gymnastics Union

Polish operator Vectra is offering the TV channel Eleven Sports 1 in an open window until 03 May. In addition, the operator said it extended its cooperation agreement with Poland's Gymnastics Union, under a new contract valid until 31 January 2028. The cooperation first started in 2022.

Toob launches three new speed plans and Wi-Fi 7 router

UK fibre broadband provider Toob has announced the launch of three new speed options for home broadband customers. These are home300, offering speeds of 300 Mbps on the Toob network for everyday life; home600 with speeds of 600 Mbps on the Toob network for busier households; and home2300 with speeds of 2.3 Gbps on the Toob and CityFibre networks for high-demand homes, gamers and content creators.

Ofcom opens investigation into Telegram over CSAM content

UK regulator Ofcom opened an investigation into Telegram under the Online Safety Act to assess whether it is complying with obligations to block users from sharing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on its platform. This comes after Ofcom received information from the Canadian Centre for Child Protection relating to the alleged sharing/presence of CASM on Telegram. Ofcom is now investigating whether Telegram has complied with duties relating to illegal content.

AT&T and Citi are adding new benefits to the AT&T Points Plus World Mastercard. This include discounts on AT&T wireless and internet monthly bills; double the number of ThankYou Points on AT&T products/services; and no foreign transaction fees. Customers can get a USD 10 per month discount on AT&T wireless bills and USD 10 per month discount on eligible AT&T broadband bills when signed up for AutoPay and paperless billing. A court in Paris has ruled in favour of France's football league governing body (LFP) in a dispute against Spliiit, a start-up that connects account owners with other individuals so they can share subscriptions for services such as content streaming, music and gaming. Spliiit was accused of being complicit in facilitating account sharing on LFP's Ligue1+ streaming platform, which is not allowed outside the household of the account owner. Sky Sports has announced plans to make the opening and closing games of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup available free-to-view in the UK on Freeview through Sky Mix. Sky Mix will also show the group stage game between Scotland and Ireland, so that the opening matches for all of the UK home nations will be available to watch free-to-air.

Dazn extends broadcast agreement with Faster Football

Dazn has extended a global distribution agreement with Faster Football for a second year. Dazn will stream the Singapore tournament free-to-air and live in more than 200 markets worldwide. The Faster Football (Soccer7Series) tournament will take place at Our Tampines Hub Stadium in Singapore from 24-26 July 2026. Dazn's 30-hour live broadcast will cover 95 games from the Men's, Women's and Masters competitions over three days.
