US CTA backs FCC 6 GHz order enabling wider Wi-Fi access

The US Consumer Technology Association has welcomed the FCC's decision to expand Wi-Fi rights and other unlicensed wireless technologies in the sought-after 6 GHz frequency range. A statement from the association's CEO and executive chair, Gary Shapiro, thanked FCC chairman Brendan Carr for the decision, calling it "pro-innovation".

T-Mobile Poland said that it has added the channel Zero TV to its pay TV lineup. The channel will be available for subscribers of the Magenta TV service from the operator from 01 February. Digital inclusion support could help UK switch off DTT system in 2030s - study

The UK could fully transition to internet-delivered TVs in the 2030s if the governments sets a clear timetables and funds targeted support for those most at risk of digital exclusion, according to new research prepared for Sky. The 'Stream On: The Future of UK TV" report, prepared by Oliver & Ohlbaum Associates, shows that most UK viewers have already made the switch - with 94 percent of UK adults having home internet access and 92 percent using a VoD service.

O2 Slovakia launches Connect second Sim service to share data bundle with other devices

O2 Slovakia introduced the new data sharing service Connect for customers on unlimited mobile plans. They will be able to share data, SMS and voice bundles on multiple devices. The operator is also reducing the price of the service that allows clients to have one number on both their smartphone and smartwatch, so the monthly fee for eSIMs in smartwatches drops to EUR 4 from EUR 5.

Samsung has announced an upgrade to the Samsung Care+ device protection service, which is available in 17 markets across Europe. Belarusian operator Life has implemented a widget on its website that adapts the interface for customers with vision, hearing, memory, motor or other disabilities. The widget can adjust colours and text settings, stop animation and remove images, in order to emphasise titles and links. MTN South Africa quietly implemented a new rule on 01 January, locking the SIM cards of fixed wireless customers with older 4G routers to the device, MyBroadband reported. Czech operator Poda has refreshed its customer service application My Poda, adding new functions like Dark Mode. Customers can now buy mobile services on the app, like extra Sims or data bundles, and add devices for watching TV on the application.

MTS opens orders for Huawei Mate X7, FreeClip 2

Russian operator MTS has started accepting orders for the foldable smartphone Huawei Mate X7 and the earbuds Huawei FreeClip 2 in its shops. Pre-sales last until 05 February. Customers buying the smartphone in shops during the promotional period will be offered either the smartwatch Huawei Watch Fit4 Pro or the earbuds Huawei FreeBuds Pro 4 free. A RUB 4,000 discount will be offered when buying the FreeClip 2 also.

LepsiaTV to raise prices from February

Slovak online TV service LepsiaTV plans to raise its prices from 01 February, reports Zive. The package Mini, including 65 channels, will cost EUR 5.99 instead of EUR 5.59, and the bundle Classic, containing 133 channels, will increase from EUR 9.59 to EUR 9.99. The package Top, including 146 channels, will cost EUR 12.99 instead of EUR 12.59.

YouTube withdraws from UK TV viewing measurement service - report

YouTube has withdrawn from a TV viewership measurement service operated by TV ratings agency Barb and Kantar Media, reports the Financial Times. YouTube parent Google is understood to have sent a legal 'case and desist' letter to Kantar Media just months after the launch of the new measurement service in summer 2025.

BT Group's consumer unit EE will open a new Experience store in Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex on 29 January. The new store will provide an immersive shopping experience for customers, who can test the latest connected technology and get support from in-store guides. It has Experience Zones based around four key areas - Home, Learn, Work and Game; complemented by a Tech Home area showing connected living technologies.

Community Fibre reports sees annual revenue growth of 48% in 2025

Community Fibre, London-based broadband provider, has reported record annual revenue growth of 48 percent in 2025 to GBP 113 million, with EBITDA up 530 percent from 2024 to GBP 49.8 million. The fibre broadband provider has been EBITDA positive since April 2024 and will be cash flow positive before financing costs during H1 2026.

New research from CCS Insight shows strong awareness of eSIM in the UK, with almost three quarters of UK consumers having heard of eSIM, up from 22 percent in the 2022 survey. The 8th annual survey of consumer buying behaviour for mobile phones and connectivity shows rising demand for travel eSIM, with almost one quarter of Brits using a travel eSIM provider - increasing to one third (32%) of people who have taken an overseas holiday in the last three years.

Comcast's Xfinity TV service will implement a new ultra HD streaming optimisation for subscribers watching the Super Bowl and other major sports content via the Peacock streaming app and main service guide. Dubbed RealTime 4K, the low-lag, high-bitrate technology delivers online streams within seconds of live sporting action taking place, averaging around 30 seconds faster than other US 4K providers, Comcast claims.
