Eutelsat has put an end to the disposal of its passive ground infrastructure, after failing to secure approval for the transaction. Telefonica Germany has expanded its 5G network to Grafrath, Binzen, and Banzkow. In all three communities the company has upgraded a mast to 5G. Telefonica has continued to expand the 5G network, conducting 8,000 expansion measures last year. Its network currently runs on 29,000 mobile sites, and 5G reaches approximately 99 percent of the population.

French civil servants to use sovereign video conferencing platform by 2027

The French public administration is adopting a single video conferencing platform across its public-service workforce. Dubbed Visio, this unified communications system will replace the various alternatives currently in use, including Teams and Zoom. Swisscom is increasing the prices for the monthly subscriptions of new and existing residential customers from 01 April. France's lower house of parliament has voted in favour of draft legislation backed by president Emmanuel Macron, aimed at protecting children from social media platforms. The first article of the proposed bill bans users under the age of 15 from accessing video‑sharing services deemed to be harmful to children's physical, mental, or moral development. Vodafone Germany upgrades cable upload speeds to 75 Mbps

Vodafone Germany announced it will activate the so-called "upload booster" at the beginning of February to increase the speed of internet connections for 24 million households on its cable network. The company is increasing the upload speed through the new Docsis 3.1 Low Split technology, so cable customers can receive rates of up to 75 Mbps, against a maximum 50 Mbps offered previously. The upgrade is part of a new set of broadband tariffs launching from 29 January.

German mobile operators introduce new eCall vehicular emergency call system

German network operators Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone and Telefonica Germany have introduced the Next Generation Emergency Call (NG eCall) system for cars. Unlike the previous system, NG eCall no longer uses 2G (GSM) mobile technology for emergency calls but 4G, and will eventually use 5G so that vehicle location and data will be transmitted to emergency call centres more quickly.

French asset management company Osae Partners intends to invest around EUR 3 billion in a new AI-ready data centre campus located in Bordeaux, reports Le Figaro. Dubbed BXIA, the project aims to develop the first of several buildings in 2028, on a nineteen-hectare site within the Bordeaux Lac district. The proposed campus pledges to follow responsible AI principles and environmentally sustainable practices, which helped the project's backers secure support from the city council.
