Spain to require all operators to cut rates by 25% for low-income customers - report

The Spanish government plans to require all telecommunications operators to offer at least a 25 percent discount on tariffs for low-income users under a new universal service framework set to take effect in 2027, according to a proposal by El Pais. The measure would extend reduced rates to around 800,000 households receiving minimum living income benefits (IMV), as part of a wider push to make connectivity more affordable for a greater number of vulnerable users.

Orange Spain officially launches branded calls feature

Orange Spain (MasOrange) has officially launched its branded calls feature, allowing businesses and public institutions to display their name, department, logo and reason for calling. The rollout is part of the operator's agreement with global voice intelligence company Hiya and follows activation of its "Llamada Visible" ("Visible Call") option to help customers detect and label spam calls.

Spanish rural broadband provider Adamo said it has reached the milestone of 1,000 towns with 500 or fewer inhabitants connected to its nationwide gigabit fibre-optic network. The figure is equivalent to around 40 percent of the 2,652 localities in Spain that meet these criteria.

Spain approves Orange's EUR 4.25 bln acquisition of MasOrange

The Spanish government has approved the agreement reached by France's Orange group to acquire the 50 percent it did not already own in Spanish operator MasOrange just over a week after the European Commission cleared the deal. The Council of Ministers granted the required authorisation on the grounds that the transaction complied with rules governing foreign investment in strategic sectors and no risks to national security were detected, according to government sources cited by El Economista.

Spanish wholesale fibre operator Lyntia Networks said it has completed a EUR 1.4 billion refinancing, extending its debt maturity profile to between 7 and 12 years and strengthening its long-term financial position to continue expanding across Iberian and international markets. Spain's Telefonica has been ranked a global leader in enterprise mobility services by research firm GlobalData, which cited the company's strengths in connectivity, device management and mobile security in its recent report on the competitive landscape. Netflix hikes prices in Spain

Netflix has announced an increase in its monthly subscription prices in Spain around a month after doing so in the US, its first hike in around 18 months. The entry-level price rises by EUR 2 to EUR 8.99 a month for the Standard plan with ads, while the Standard (Ad-free) plan costs EUR 1 more at EUR 14.99 and the Premium (4K + HDR) plan has risen to EUR 21.99 from EUR 19.99. The cost of additional users has also increased by EUR 1 a month to EUR 5.99 for ad-supported accounts and EUR 6.99 for ad-free ones.

MasOrange continues as top European telco in Fitch ESG ranking

MasOrange, the operator created following the merger between Orange Spain and Masmovil, said it has consolidated its leading position among European telecommunications companies in the latest "ESG Entity Rating" survey conducted by Sustainable Fitch. The group achieved a score of 81 out of 100 in Sustainable Fitch's 2025 report, up from 79 in 2024. The agency also reaffirmed the company's rating at '2' on its five-point scale, placing it among the leading performers in the European telecom sector.

Orange Spain spends over EUR 2 mln on Seville fair network upgrade

Orange Spain said it will be investing EUR 2.3 million to boost mobile network coverage at the Feria de Abril in Seville, which this year takes place from 21 to 26 April. The operator has installed 27 additional nodes throughout the fair venue to complement its existing coverage and provide sufficient capacity for around half a million daily visitors.

Vodafone Spain has cut the price of its '5G Hogar' ('5G Home') Fixed Wireless Access service by EUR 10 a month for a year to match that of its fibre offer. As a result, customers who sign up online pay EUR 20 a month for 12 months for download speeds of up to 1 Gbps, rising to EUR 30 a month thereafter.

MasOrange leads Spain fixed network ranking, Digi offers top speeds

MasOrange jumped to the top of Nperf's ranking of the fixed broadband networks of Spain's ISPs on the basis of millions of millions of tests carried out between 01 January 2025 and 31 March 2026. Nperf said MasOrange achieved a score of 135,819 points after leading the latency, browsing speed and video streaming categories, ahead of Vodafone (132,390 points), Telefonica (130,676) and Digi (128,064).

Vodafone Spain (Zegona) has reached an agreement with the National Cryptologic Centre (CCN-CERT) to join the latter's network of cybersecurity operations centres (SOCs), a public-private platform aimed at strengthening collective defence against cyber threats. Spain's Dominion acquires Verne's production unit

Spain's Dominion Group has completed its takeover of the production unit of Alicante-based technology group Verne, which was declared bankrupt last year, reports El Economista. Dominion has agreed to pay EUR 620,000 in cash and assume debts and contingencies totalling EUR 2.56 million, mostly due to commitments to maintain 138 employees linked to the telecommunications production unit, said the report.

Spain to allocate EUR 145 mln in latest smart city call

Spain's digital development agency Red.es confirmed that a total of EUR 145 million in EU-backed regional development funds will be allocated to 59 projects that promote the digitalisation of economic activity, employment and entrepreneurship. The value of the RedCyTI call was increased by 62 percent due to the interest of various municipalities, provincial councils, island councils, and districts in funding projects focused on the sustainable economic development of smart cities and territories.

Vueling hits 1 mln sessions after launching Viasat in-flight Wi‑Fi

Spain-based low-cost carrier Vueling has recorded more than one million online sessions since introducing free in-flight Wi-Fi in October 2025 through a partnership with Viasat. Spanish operator MasOrange has announced the appointment of Luz Usamentiaga as chairwoman of its Basque subsidiary Euskaltel, replacing Jon Ander de las Fuentes, who also stepped down as CEO. Usamentiaga has more than 25 years of experience in the field of telecommunications and was one of the founders of the employers' association Digitales, where she has served as general secretary since 2018.

Telefonica wins court backing to expand blocking measures to more sports

Telefonica has secured court backing to block users from accessing not only illegal football streams but other live sports content such as tennis, golf and even live entertainment broadcasts, reports El Economista, citing a recent ruling issued by the Commercial Section of the Barcelona Court of First Instance. Telefonica has slashed the price of its premium 'Todo el futbol' ('All of the football') pay-TV package to EUR 20 a month, a 60 percent reduction compared to the usual price of EUR 50.
