Digi Spain to air Australian Open in 4K at no extra cost

Digi Spain has announced that all subscribers to its Digi TV service will be able to watch matches from the forthcoming Australian Open grand slam tennis tournament at no extra cost starting 18 January. The most important games will be available in 4K quality on the Eurosport 4K channel (dial no. 10), with remaining matches plus analysis, debates and other competition-related content shown on additional Eurosport channels.

Cellnex prices new bond series amounting to EUR 1.5 bln

Spanish infrastructure operator Cellnex Telecom said it has completed the pricing of two series of euro-denominated bonds amounting to EUR 1.5 billion aimed at qualifying investors. In a statement to financial markets regulator CNMV, Cellnex said the first EUR 750 million series matures on 19 January 2031, has a 3.000 percent coupon payable annually and will be issued at a price of 98.494 percent of its nominal value.

Spanish govt invests EUR 7 mln in AI fashion startup Lookiero

Spain's Ministry of Digital Transformation has invested EUR 7.2 million in Lookiero, a Bilbao-based startup that specialises in the application of Artificial Intelligence technology in the fashion industry. The funds come from the state-backed Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT) launched in 2024 to manage all of the country's investments in technological matters.

Vodafone Spain has launched a new advertising campaign dubbed "Break the Rules" for its latest convergent offer with pay-TV content. The corresponding ads feature World Cup-winning Spanish footballer Alexia Putellas and the tagline "Vodafone Quality at Today's Prices".

Finetwork launches gigabit plan with two mobile lines for under EUR 30

Spanish operator Finetwork has announced the launch of two new low-cost convergent plans less than a couple of months after Vodafone Spain (Zegona) took over the brand. Both come with two mobile lines with 50GB of data each plus 600 Mbps fibre for EUR 25 a month and 1 Gbps for EUR 30.

Telefonica debuts quantum‑safe data centre communication service

Telefonica has launched Spain's first communications service designed to protect data centre connections from potential quantum computing attacks, describing it as a milestone in post-quantum cryptography (PQC) adoption. The new offering, dubbed Interconexión CPDs, enables companies to secure the information exchanged between data centre facilities using cryptographic algorithms resistant to future quantum decryption.

Telefonica posts record mobile portability figures in 2025 - report

Telefonica achieved its best-ever annual mobile portability result in 2025, according to figures seen by business daily El Economista. The former incumbent gained a net total of 199,684 mobile lines through porting in the January to December period, its highest figure since Spain implemented portability in 2000 and five times more than the 40,000 new SIM cards ported by the company's Movistar and O2 brands in 2014.

Orange raises USD 6 bln with five-tranche bond offering

Orange announced that it has successfully priced a five-tranche bond issuance totalling USD 6 billion, stating that the proceeds may be used to repay debt at its Spanish subsidiary MasOrange. The bonds carry a weighted average coupon of 4.72 percent, with an average maturity of nine years.

Indra completes EUR 725 mln Hispasat takeover, restructures Indra Space

Spanish ICT and defence group Indra said it has finalised the acquisition of satellite operator Hispasat after receiving regulatory clearance and shareholder approval. The company agreed to pay EUR 725 million to national grid operator Redeia for 89.68 percent of Hispasat, which will be integrated into the Indra Space subsidiary that also includes the company's majority stakes in government satellite services operator Hisdesat (36%) and satellite specialist Deimos (100%).

Digi sets new record for porting gains in Q4

Digi Spain said it added a net 994,00 new lines through number porting in 2025. The gross figure was 1.673 million, after another 144,000 customers ported their numbers to Digi in December. Digi said the annual net gain was 7.7 percent greater than in 2024.

Telefonica sees 80% jump in 5G traffic over New Year holiday

Telefonica said traffic on its 5G network was up 80 percent year-on-year over the New Year's Eve and New Year's Day holiday. On 31 December, the Spanish operator handled 81.2 percent more traffic over the 5G network than the previous year, while traffic on 01 January was up 83.3 percent from 2025.

The Spanish government announced a new subsidy programme to help local authorities digitise their operations. There is a total EUR 89 million available under the new RedCyTI programme managed by the public digital agency Red.es.

Vodafone Spain hires former Avatel manager to run Finetwork

Vodafone Spain has hired Jose Luis Prieto to lead the Finetwork mobile business acquired last month. He will join the company from 07 January 2026. Prieto counts more than 25 years experience in the industry, working previously at Avatel Telecom, where he was responsible for the B2C and B2B businesses, and before that over 20 years at Vodafone.

Vodafone Spain reports 59% jump in 5G traffic over Christmas

Vodafone Spain reported a 59 percent increase in traffic on its 5G network over the Christmas holiday. Total data traffic was up 14 percent year-on-year on 24 and 25 December, with a peak on Christmas Day around 22.00 hours. Voice traffic over the same period was down 10 percent.

Spain confirms end to fixed telephony regulations

Spanish regulator CNMC has confirmed the withdrawal of ex ante regulations in the market for fixed call termination. This follows a market analysis showing a steady decline in the use of fixed telephony and the EU's imposition of a harmonised price cap for terminating calls across the bloc. CNMC held a public consultation earlier this year already on the plans and has now confirmed the decision, which will take effect in six months.

Hiya offering branded calls via MasOrange

Global voice intelligence company Hiya has begun offering branded calls to businesses as part of its agreement with Spanish operator MasOrange, reports Bandaancha, citing emails sent to customers. A month after MasOrange activated a feature ("Llamada Visible") to detect and label spam calls, Hiya is now inviting Spanish businesses to subscribe to its Branded Calls service to enable them to display their brand name, department and logo on recipient phones.

MasOrange extends anti-fraud tools to MasMovil and Yoigo brands

Spanish operator MasOrange said a total of four API (Application Programmable Interface) services designed to enhance digital security are now available to users of its MasMovil and Yoigo brands. Previously available to Orange and Jazztel customers, the tools are part of the Open Gateway initiative launched by the GSMA at MWC Barcelona 2023.

Orange Spain relaunches EUR 45/mth fibre and football promo

Orange Spain (Masorange) has decided to relaunch an offer aimed at customers of fast-rising rival Digi during the festive period. The premium rate normally costs EUR 126 a month and includes fibre broadband at 1 Gbps speeds plus unlimited national calls and unlimited data at 5G+ speeds on two mobile lines as well as access to all the football and basketball coverage of Dazn for EUR 45 a month, with a 12-month permanence clause.

Cellnex extends Securitas Direct IoT deal in Spain and Portugal

Spain-based Cellnex Telecom, Europe's largest mobile towers company, has renewed and extended its dedicated Internet of Things network contract with security specialist Securitas Direct for another five years, starting in 2026. The agreement covers Spain and Portugal and supports Securitas Direct's exclusive ATN network used to maintain the connectivity of alarm systems for homes and small businesses even in the event of network disruptions or signal interference.

Vodafone Spain and AMC have again teamed up to offer a new pop-up channel with crime series content for all Vodafone TV customers. The channel, called Crimenes bajo cero por AMC, includes a wide selection of the best recent and classic crime series, especially Nordic noir productions including The Bridge, The Killing and Codename: Annika as well as the premiere of Murders in Reykjavik.
