Orange Spain to air Roland-Garros on Eurosport 4K channel

Orange Spain said all subscribers to its Orange TV and Orange TV Bares pay-TV offer will again be able to view the French Open tennis tournament from Roland-Garros in 4K Ultra HD (UHD) via the Eurosport 4K channel. The channel will be available on dial no. 101 from 24 May to 07 June, enabling those with compatible TVs to view matches from the 125th edition of the tournament in the highest possible 4K resolution on up to five devices.

Telefonica waives FTTR setup fee

Telefonica is encouraging more users to sign up to its FTTR (fibre to the room) service by waiving the previously applicable one-off installation fee of EUR 120. Under the promo, technicians will set up the 'Fibra Movistar FTTR' cable and WiFi 6 repeaters at customer homes all over Spain at no extra charge, with the corresponding service now costing EUR 12 a month over 48 months.

Orange Cyberdefense launches in Spain with MasOrange

France's Orange group has officially launched its cybersecurity arm, Orange Cyberdefense, in Spain in collaboration with MasOrange. The aim is to become the trusted cybersecurity partner for Spanish public and private organisations by offering the services of more than 3,300 specialists, a network of 36 detection centres across 23 countries and a private CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team), said Orange.

Vodafone Spain lands anti-abuse bracelet contract - report

Vodafone Spain (Zegona) has outscored Orange Spain (MasOrange) in a public tender for the government's contract to provide anti-abuse tracking devices, according to documents seen by Expansion. The temporary joint venture between Vodafone and Securitas Seguridad scored higher than the proposal submitted by Orange and Verisure in 11 of the 12 criteria of the tender, with the former set to be awarded the contract worth up to EUR 110 million, said the report.

Spanish telecommunications infrastructure specialist Ezentis has acquired a further 5 percent stake in the share capital of EDA Instalaciones y Energia, increasing its holding to 65 percent. Ezentis said it paid EUR 1.2 million for the new stake, 50 percent in cash and 50 percent in Ezentis shares, which will be issued through a capital increase to be approved at the next AGM.

Orange Spain (MasOrange) said it has invested EUR 60,000 to temporarily enhance its mobile network capacity in and around the Montmelo circuit in Barcelona ahead of this weekend's Catalan MotoGP Grand Prix. The operator, which already has three permanent nodes at the circuit, will be deploying four additional mobile units to reinforce traffic at the venue from 15 to 17 May.

Spain's PC Componentes cuts unlimited data prices

Spanish e-commerce retailer PC Componentes has substantially reduced the price of unlimited data plans available via its new-launched MVNO venture on the MasOrange network. The operator is now offering a monthly mobile-only plan with unlimited data at 5G speeds for EUR 15.90, as well as an annual plan for EUR 100, equivalent to EUR 8.33 a month.

Australian neocloud provider Iren has agreed to acquire Spanish data centre developer Ingenostrum, known as Nostrum Group, in a move that expands the company's AI cloud infrastructure platform into Europe. The transaction adds around 490 MW of secured, grid-connected power capacity in Spain, alongside an additional development pipeline, increasing Iren's total power portfolio to 5 GW. The company said the acquisition would strengthen its ability to meet customer demand for AI infrastructure in Europe.

Telefonica and the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) have formalised a new Joint Research Unit (JRU) focused on quantum technologies, strengthening a strategic collaboration in advanced communications spanning more than a decade. Orange Spain (Masorange) has launched a new "operator attack" offer aimed at customers of fast-rising rival Digi, this time halving the price of a premium convergent plan that normally costs EUR 91 a month for a year, reports ADSL Zone. The rate, which includes fibre broadband at 1 Gbps speeds plus two lines with unlimited national calls and unlimited data at 5G+ speeds, is currently available for EUR 45.50 a month.

Canalink announced a EUR 1.24 million investment to secure rights to use two-fibre optic links needed to deploy a new submarine cable branch connecting Costa Calma and Puerto del Rosario on the island of Fuerteventura. The Tenerife-based neutral operator said the branch will link the southern part of the island to its Base 4 cable system via a submarine bifurcation unit, with onward connectivity through Reintel's terrestrial fibre network.

Spain's Grupo Amper said it has signed a binding agreement with private equity fund manager Nazca to acquire Zaragoza-based critical communications specialist Teltronic for up to EUR 225 million. The purchase price consists of a fixed amount of EUR 155 million and a maximum earn-out of EUR 45 million, subject to the achievement of a series of targets. Amper has also agreed to assume EUR 25 million of Teltronic's debt.

Vodafone Spain (Zegona) has launched a new promotion to encourage new and current users to sign up to the football package it offers in collaboration with Dazn. Under the deal, anyone who signs up to the Dazn Futbol plan by 19 May will pay EUR 9.99 a month for 12 months instead of EUR 19.99 in exchange for a 12-month contract.

Orange tops Spain converged network performance ranking

Orange Spain, a MasOrange brand, was rated Spain's most consistent and fastest network operator in the converged performance rankings published by OpenSignal, based on measurements collected from January to March 2026. The operator achieved the most consistent quality with a score of 83.0 percent in tests evaluating mobile and Wi-Fi network performance, ahead of Movistar (Telefonica), Jazztel, Yoigo, Vodafone and Digi.

Telefonica has unveiled a new platform and demonstration centre to support the creation of multi-sector data spaces via its digital business unit Telefonica Tech. Spanish satellite infrastructure operator Hispasat, now owned by state-backed ICT group Indra, has launched a project to deliver high-speed internet to 80 municipalities in Castilla-La Mancha. The initiative, promoted by the regional government, involves the installation of 209 antennas to improve connectivity in rural and sparsely populated areas where traditional infrastructure is limited.

Spanish mobile users port nearly 600K lines in March, M2M lines top 50 mln

A total of 599,196 mobile numbers were ported in Spain in March 2026, up 12.7 percent year on year, according to the latest mobile sector data from the CNMC that complements the regulator's fixed segment update. March saw the total number of active mobile (voice, internet) lines rise by nearly 1 million year on year to 62.6 million, with M2M lines more than doubling to 50.8 million.

Spanish FTTH lines top 18 mln in March, over 90% of fixed line total

The total number of active fibre to the home (FTTH) connections in Spain reached 18.01 million in March 2026, up over 1 million year on year and around 76,800 sequentially, according to the latest official monthly update from sector watchdog CNMC that complements its mobile report. Fibre connections account for over 91 percent of the fixed line total of 19.71 million, the latter up from 18.97 million a year earlier and equivalent to nearly 40 lines per 100 inhabitants.

Telefonica said customers of any operator in Spain will be able to watch the 'El Clasico' match between Barcelona and Real Madrid on 10 May via its Movistar Plus+ IPTV offering. The game is being included for the first time in the package, which is available for EUR 9.99 a month or EUR 99.90 a year to all users irrespective of whether they are Telefonica customers.

Anyone who has been with the operator more than four months can acquire a handset from a dynamic catalogue that will be constantly updated with different brands and product ranges, said the operator.

Telefonica has agreed to acquire Spanish telecommunications firm Lineox from infrastructure fund Asterion for around EUR 80 million, according to sources cited by Expansion, with the deal expected to be signed in the coming days. Lineox operates microwave radio links used to connect mobile towers in areas not covered by fibre networks.
