Digi adds over 150,000 lines through porting in January

Digi Spain said it set a new record for number porting in January, with over 150,000 lines added to its network. That's an increase of 16.5 percent on January 2025 and a new record for the month. Mobile portings rose 15.5 percent to over 127,000, also a record for January.

Nu Quantum sets up quantum networking centre in Spain

Nu Quantum, UK-based quantum networking company, will establish a subsidiary in Spain to act as a leading centre for quantum networking and photonic infrastructure for Distributed Quantum Computing. This comes after the Spanish government invested EUR 9.75 million as part of the company's EUR 51 million (USD 60 million) Series A funding round. The project will create over 30 highly-skilled jobs.

Telefonica has announced the addition of a new movie and series channel owned by Spanish audiovisual services group Squirrel Media to its Movistar Plus+ pay-TV service. Squirrel is described as a family-friendly channel showing titles such as ' Rambo: Last Blood', 'Jude', 'The Outpost', 'The Last Great Heist', 'The Good Wife', 'Blind Vengeance' and 'Winchester'.

LaLiga paying EUR 50 for illegal bar broadcast tip-offs

The Spanish Football League (LaLiga) has launched a reward programme offering EUR 50 for each valid report of bars and public venues broadcasting Spanish football matches without a proper licence, as part of its intensified crackdown during the 2025/2026 season. The initiative encourages public participation to "protect the establishments that legally broadcast football" and "facilitate citizen participation in the defence of audiovisual rights," announced LaLiga.

Vodafone Spain to connect 210 Galician rural localities

Vodafone Spain (Zegona) has reached an agreement with the Galician regional government (Xunta de Galicia) to connect 210 isolated rural communities with a total of over 5,000 residents to mobile networks. A total of EUR 10.6 million will be invested to build 68 towers in 48 municipalities across the four Galician provinces.

Telefonica launches Edge computing network across Spain

Telefonica announced a project to create a network of edge computing nodes across Spain as part of its plans to convert legacy copper fixed network exchanges into mini data centres. The operator has already activated ten nodes in Madrid (two), Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Bilbao, La Coruña and Terrassa, with seven more in Zaragoza, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Valladolid, Gijon, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Santiago de Compostela and Merida to launch later this year.

Digi Spain to air La 1 channel in 4K

Digi Spain said it has become the first pay-TV operator in the country to offer the 4K version of RTVE's main DTT channel La 1. The Ultra High Definition signal will be available to Digi TV subscribers with a 4K-compatible television on their Android TV UHD decoder but not via their smartphones or tablets.

Telefonica joins NATO's innovation accelerator

Telefonica and NATO have signed a framework agreement for six of its Development and Innovation centres located in Spain to join NATO's North Atlantic Defence Innovation Accelerator (DIANA). Under the deal, Telefonica's centres will join the INTA (National Institute of Aerospace Technology) El Pardo Campus, allowing the operator to boost its ties with the defence sector, above all in areas related to next-generation networks, the Internet of Things, cybersecurity and quantum technologies.

NTT, NTT Docomo and NTT Data will jointly exhibit at MWC Barcelona 2026, marking the group's first combined presence at the event since 2019. The exhibition will take place in Barcelona from 2 to 5 March 2026 and follows the renewal of the group's corporate identity in July 2025.

Vodafone Spain (Zegona) has launched an offer to encourage its customers to sign up to its Motor package ahead of the start of the Formula 1 and MotoGP seasons. Under the promo, anyone who subscribes to the Dazn Motor package by 13 February will pay EUR 9.99 a month for a year instead of the usual price of EUR 19.99.

Spain-based European infrastructure operator Cellnex Telecom announced the resumption of its share buyback programme for a maximum of EUR 300 million, aimed at reducing capital and improving shareholder value. The decision follows the completion of a EUR 800 million buyback last year after the company finalised the sale of its Irish business.

France-based IT services group Devoteam has announced the acquisition of Deiser, a Spanish firm specialising in Atlassian-based tools, to boost its market position in the region and broaden services in collaborative project management. Established in 1998, Deiser holds a strong standing in Spain and Latin America for deploying, integrating and customising Atlassian products such as Jira, Confluence, and Jira Service Management.

Telefonica has issued a new EUR 1 billion green bond, adding to a recent EUR 1.75 billion green hybrid issue and a CHF 170 million transaction as part of its ongoing debt management strategy. Vodafone Spain in RANco talks with MasOrange, Telefonica - O'Hare

The chief executive of Zegona, the London-listed owner of Vodafone Spain, announced that the operator is currently in talks with MasOrange and Telefonica on setting up a mobile network-sharing joint venture (RANco) in the country with a view to cutting rollout costs. The company would be similar to the Fibrecos created with its rivals in 2025, enabling Vodafone to share costs and improve a network that is currently "inefficient and unprofitable", said Zegona CEO Eamonn O'Hare in an interview with Expansion.

Telefonica has announced the launch of a free eSIM transfer service for Android device users, the first Spanish operator to do so. As a result, Movistar and O2 Spain subscribers can now transfer a physical SIM card to a digital eSIM themselves without having to go to a store, use an app or contact customer service.
