Italian retail sales rise again in November, e-commerce up 4.6%

Italy's retail sales climbed 0.5 percent in value and 0.6 percent in volume in November, following the previous month's similar rise, according to the latest preliminary data from national statistics office Istat. Cosmetic and toilet articles (+5.9%) increased the highest in November, while the steepest decline was seen in other goods (-0.4%).

Cloudflare handed USD 14 mln anti-piracy fine in Italy

Italian communications watchdog Agcom has fined web infrastructure company Cloudflare a total of USD 14 million for breaching online copyright protection regulations in what is the first major fine handed down following the entry into force of 2023 legislation on the protection of copyrighted content. In the decision, Cloudflare was accused of "failing to take any measures to combat the use of its services for the dissemination of illegal content."

Spectral Capital to acquire Italy's Intermatica

Spectral Capital Corporation said it signed a binding term sheet to acquire Italy-based telecommunications and technology company Intermatica S.p.A. for an undisclosed sum. The agreement calls for Intermatica to generate up to USD 10 million in annual free cash flow for Spectral to fully earn out 10 million Spectral common shares, said the latter in a statement.

Open Fiber joins CDP 'Climate A' list

Italian wholesale operator Open Fiber said it has been named on the 'Climate A List' of the not-for-profit CDP (Climate Disclosure Project) for the first time thanks to its environmental policy. The ranking awards points to companies for their strategy, corporate transparency and performance in response to climate change, and Open Fiber achieved the highest rating thanks to progress made in reducing the impacts of its operations and managing climate-related risks.

CoopVoce adds Turbo 200 and Turbo 400 plans to 5G portfolio

The MVNO of Italian supermarket chain Coop has confirmed the launch of its first 5G plans after reaching a deal last year to migrate its customers to the Vodafone Italia network. The CoopVoce Turbo 200 prepay tariff comes with 200GB of data at 5G speeds plus unlimited calls and 1,000 SMS for EUR 7.90 a month, rising to EUR 9.90 for Turbo 400 with 400GB of data.

Italian jobless rate drops again to 5.7% in November

Italy's official unemployment rate dropped to 5.7 percent in November, compared to the previous month's downwardly revised rate of 5.8 percent, according to the latest provisional data from Istat. The result was achieved in spite of a 34,000 monthly fall in the number of employed people (+179,000 YoY).

Telecom Italia (TIM) has launched an SMS campaign to win back former customers via the TIM Supreme GPRO rate with 150GB of data for under EUR 6 a month, reports Mondo Mobile Web. Subscribers also get unlimited calls and SMS plus the 10GB data bundle for EUR 5.99 a month plus a EUR 10 one-off activation fee.

Eolo activates new 5G FWA offer with gigabit speeds

Italian fixed wireless broadband provider Eolo has officially unveiled its new Eolo Casa Max Elite plan with download speeds of up to 1 Gbps in covered areas. The new offer, which compares to previously available top speeds of 300 Mbps, is available for EUR 34.90 a month for two months, rising to EUR 44.90 thereafter. Also included are a Wi-Fi 7 router, upload speeds of up to 200 Mbps and unlimited calls to all Italian numbers.

Italian inflation up to 1.2% in December

Italy's main domestic inflation rate (NIC) inched up to 1.2 percent annually in December, up from 1.1 percent in November, according to preliminary data from statistics agency Istat. The rise was mainly attributed to higher food and transport prices, partly offset by lower regulated energy and recreation costs.

Fastweb+Vodafone and TIM ink Italian 5G network sharing deal

Telecom Italia (TIM) and Fastweb+Vodafone announced a preliminary agreement to cooperate in the development of mobile access networks via a Radio Access Network (RAN) sharing model covering around 60 percent of the Italian population. The agreement, which is above all aimed at accelerating the expansion of 5G infrastructure in low-density and underserved areas, is expected to be finalised by the end of the second quarter of this year.

Italian operator WindTre has activated a new 'winback' offer in its Go-branded range aimed at former customers, reports Mondo Mobile Web, citing SMS sent to users. The plan, dubbed WindTre Go Unlimited XXS 5G, includes unlimited minutes to all national landline and mobile numbers plus 100 SMS to all national numbers as well as unlimited data at fastest possible 5G speeds for EUR 4.99 a month.

Fastweb (Fastweb+Vodafone) has announced on its website that over a dozen fixed line plans in its portfolio will be subject to a price increase of up to EUR 3 a month starting on 01 February 2026. The unilateral price hikes range from EUR 1 to EUR 3 a month and are due to the need to continue guaranteeing the best network quality and offer services to meet customer needs.

Fastweb has completed the legal merger with Vodafone Italia, absorbing the operator acquired a year ago from 01 January 2026. As a result Vodafone Italia becomes a licensed brand of Fastweb and the two operators work as a single company under the name Fastweb SpA. Vodafone's website and customer communications were updated to reflect the legal change.

Italian operator TIM has called a shareholders meeting for 28 January to approve the earlier announced share conversion plan. Italy opens applications for regional award of 2.3 GHz spectrum

Italy's ministry of business and made in Italy (MIMIT) announced that it will issue temporary frequency authorisations in the 2.3 GHz band (2300-2400 MHz) for blocks of spectrum available across selected geographical areas of the country. Six provinces are covered by this award, namely Bologna, Milano, Monza e Brianza, Napoli, Palermo, and Roma. Mobile operators are invited to express their interest by submitting an application by the deadline of 31 January.

Italy's anti-spoofing measures cause sharp rise in calls from foreign numbers

Italian regulator Agcom has shared further insight into telephony-based fraud following the introduction of new rules to prevent spoofing calls from 19 November. From this date, local operators have been blocking mobile calls with fake caller IDs originating abroad. Between 19 and 30 November, this obligation resulted in an average of 4.1 million of these calls being blocked daily, which would otherwise have displayed Italian mobile numbers on recipients' handsets. Italy's competition authority AGCM has ordered Meta to immediately suspend contractual terms that could block competing AI chatbots from its messaging service WhatsApp as part of an an investigation launched in July regarding possible abuse of its dominant position. FiberCop accuses Infratel of favouring rival Open Fiber

Italian wholesale operator FiberCop has lodged an appeal at the Lazio regional administrative court in Rome accusing state infrastructure agency Infratel of favouring wholesale rival Open Fiber, according to sources cited by Bloomberg. In the complaint, FiberCop alleges that Infratel gave special treatment to Open Fiber in the EUR 4 billion "Italia a 1 Giga" tender to cover Italy's 'grey' areas after the latter announced that it would miss a mid-2026 target to connect some 700,000 homes.
