Entel lifts Q4 revenue 12% amid higher handset sales, EBITDA rises 9%

Entel has reported a 12.2 percent year-on-year rise in fourth quarter revenue to CLP 837.09 billion. In Chile, revenue was supported by higher handset income and fixed service revenue, whereas Peruvian sales were driven by higher service revenue and exchange rate effects, as well as handset sales. EBITDA at Entel in Q4 was 9.4 percent higher at CLP 226.83 billion and the margin narrowed to 27.0 percent form 27.8 percent.

Brazil rolls out 5G in rural areas of Paraiba state

The Brazilian government has launched 5G mobile service in the rural areas of Alagoa Grande, state of Paraiba, providing internet and phone access to over 4,000 residents in Zumbi and Canafístula. Previously, residents in these areas struggled with basic communication and app access. Now, they have a stable 5G signal thanks to an investment of BRL 769,000, the communications ministry announced. The connectivity is being provided by regional operator Brisanet.

Motorola Brasil has launched the new Moto G17, a smartphone designed for content creators. Key features include a 32 MP front camera and a 50 MP Sony Lytia 600 main camera; a Full HD+ display with HDR and 1000 nits brightness, paired with Dolby Atmos sound; a 5,200 mAh battery with a 20W TurboPower charger; and up to 12 GB of RAM (4 GB physical + 8 GB Smart Boost). The Moto G17 128 GB version costs BRL 1,299 and the 256 GB version is BRL 1,499.

Oi receives court clearance to sell V.tal stake

Brazilian telecom operator Oi has announced that a court decision was made on 28 January 2026, approving the judicial sale of "UPI V.tal." This unit will include the stakes held by Oi and its subsidiary, Rio Alto Investimentos e Participações, in V.tal – Rede Neutra de Telecomunicações. A competitive judicial bidding process for UPI V.tal is scheduled to begin with the opening of sealed bids on 5 March 2026.

Telecom Argentina integrates Nokia core in 5G upgrade

Telecom Argentina announced it is adopting Nokia equipment for its 5G mobile core network, as part of a multi-vendor strategy for the Personal mobile network. The new core is rolling out first in the Buenos Aires metro area and other regions, including Mar del Plata, Tucuman, Rosario, and Cordoba, and will expand to other areas in the coming months. Personal has already completed integration and validation of the first network nodes and started migrating traffic.

The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) has approved a public consultation to update Brazil's Frequency Band Allocation, Destination, and Distribution Plan (PDFF), paving the way for TV 3.0, the next generation of free-to-air television. A key proposal is to allocate the 250 MHz to 322 MHz (300 MHz band) for sound and image broadcasting, facilitating the evolution of Brazil's terrestrial digital TV.

Colombia's Ministry of Information Technology and Communications (Mintic) announced plans to grant spectrum usage permits in the 900 MHz band to local operators with a view to boosting fixed residential connections in rural and remote areas where coverage by commercial operators is currently insufficient or non-existent.

Brazil to upgrade fibre and mobile connectivity in Maranhao

Brazil's Communications Minister Frederico de Siqueira Filho has unveiled a series of infrastructure projects designed to improve mobile coverage and internet access across the state of Maranhao. The centrepiece is a contract between the Ministry and Telebras to develop the Maranhao Infovia. This project involves laying over 6,000 km of fibre-optic cabling to provide high-speed internet to 20 municipalities. This project forms part of the New Growth Acceleration Program (Novo PAC).

Entel Bolivia, Claro Chile sign bi-oceanic interconnection deal

Bolivia's state-owned telecom operator Entel has signed an interconnection agreement with Claro Chile (America Movil) to establish what it describes as "the fastest and most direct bi-oceanic route connecting the Atlantic with the Pacific." Under the deal, the operators will interconnect their transport networks with a view to shortening data travel from Santiago to São Paulo by 2,400 km and cutting latency by 12 milliseconds.

Google is rolling out new Android theft protection features. Android 15's feature that locks the screen after too many incorrect login attempts now has a toggle in settings for user's to turn it off and on easier. AT&T Mexico reported a 20.6 percent year on year rise in operating revenues to USD 1.3 billion in the final quarter of 2025, attributed to the favourable impact of foreign exchange rates as well as growth in postpaid subscribers and higher ARPU. BNDES approves BRL 233 million financing for Mega Lobster data centre

Brazil's National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) has approved BRL 233.46 million in funding for Tec.to Data Centers, a part of the V.tal group. This financing will support the expansion of Mega Lobster, the largest data centre in Brazil's Northeast region, located in Fortaleza, Ceara. Movistar Colombia said it has completed the first phase of its 5G rollout, having connected a total of 1,021 sites in 99 cities across the country, double the number initially planned. The operator expects to reach 1,185 sites by the end of the first quarter of 2026, around two years after officially launching the service.

Peruvian telecom services regulator Osiptel said it has resumed its campaign against the use of stolen or illegal handsets linked to criminal activities.
