LCL to offer Scion security for data centre customers with Dutch provider Varity

Belgium's LCL Data Centers announced a partnership with the Dutch managed services provider Varity to offer customers new security options for their cloud infrastructure. The move means customers will be able to make their critical infrastructure invisible online, and control themselves which operators and networks are used for transferring their data. It's based on adoption of the Scion protocol.

KPN announced it will stop supporting Usenet groups on news.KPN.nl from May, due to limited interest. Subscribers can still pay for a subscription after that date, with the options Basic, Elite or Pro available via XS News.

VodafoneZiggo employees vote against new labour agreement

Staff at Dutch operator VodafoneZiggo have rejected a new collective labour agreement negotiated by the union De Unie with the company. The union said it was ready to re-open negotiations, while VodafoneZiggo said it would take time to reconsider its position.

KPN wins Umlaut network test in 'photo finish' with Odido

KPN has come first in Umlaut's latest benchmark of Dutch mobile networks, with just one point advance on rival Odido. KPN achieved 988 out of 1,000 points in the tests, Odido had 987 points, and Vodafone came third with 972 points. All three had excellent results, according to the researcher.

Techone is acquiring the IT services provider Isaeus from its founder Martin Waltmans. The managed services provider focuses on work station management and related cloud services. It will become part of Techone's unit IC-Automatisering. The takeover is part of Techone's plan to grow through acquisitions, building a network of regional IT providers across the Netherlands.

Ziggo adds Delta addresses to network check

VodafoneZiggo has added new network coverage to its online postcode check for customers, based on its agreement to use the Delta Fiber network in parts of the country. Potential customers will now see availability of Ziggo services in new areas, such as Westland, Twente, Zeeland, Gouda and Schiedam.

Dutch mobile operators extend antennas deal with local authorities to end-2026

The Dutch mobile operators KPN, Vodafone and Odido have extended an agreement with public authorities on placing mobile antennas by one year, to the end of 2026. The so-called Antenna Covenant is an agreement with the national government and association of municipalities to ease local permitting procedures for placing mobile network equipment. The parties are in talks on a further extension of the agreement beyond 2026, with updated terms.

Eurofiber announced it's adding 5G RedCap to its private 5G networks offering. Developed with Nokia, the RedCap support will provide new applications for business IoT processes over the private networks.

NLdigital publishes guide to NIS2 implementation in Netherlands

The Dutch ICT industry association NLdigital has launched a practical guide for organisations working on compliance with the new Cybersecurity law which implements the EU's NIS2 directive in the Netherlands. Groups both directly and indirectly affected by the legislation can find step-by-step guides to assist in meeting their legal obligations. The new law is expected to take effect in the second quarter of this year.

Online.nl to raise prices in April for broadband, TV

Dutch ISP Online.nl, part of the Canal Plus group, is increasing prices for broadband and TV customers from April. Customers on the KPN DSL or fibre networks will pay EUR 0.50 more each month, while prices on the Delta Fiber network go up by EUR 1 per month. As a result prices vary from EUR 49 per month for 30 Mbps DSL to EUR 79 for 500 Mbps over Delta Fiber.

Budget Thuis to raise prices in March

Dutch provider Budget Thuis is increasing prices for existing broadband, TV and fixed telephony customers by 3.3 percent from March. The annual price hike is based on the inflation rate reported by the statistics agency CBS.

Odido customer data released after ransom refused

Hackers have released personal data on Odido customers after accessing the Dutch operator's internal systems. According to the public broadcaster NOS, the company decided against paying the ransom demanded by the hackers, as recommended by the police and security experts. They wanted EUR 500,000 by 26 February to stop making the customer data public.

Delta upgrades mobile speeds with 5G

Dutch operator Delta is increasing speeds on its mobile subscriptions. Customers gain access to 5G speeds up to 450 Mbps download and 75 Mbps upload on the Odido network. For customers without 5G devices, the maximum 4G speeds are 225/50 Mbps.

Techone expands in Flevoland with Dare IT takeover

Techone has acquired Dare IT to expand its footprint in Flevoland. The managed service provider supplies and manages IT infrastructure and online desktops for businesses, working from a base in Almere. It will continue to operate independently after joining the Techone group, with no change in services for customers. The takeover is part of Techone's plan to grow through acquisitions, building a network of regional IT providers across the Netherlands.

Proximus revenues fall nearly 7% in Q4, to cut dividend in new growth plan

Proximus reported revenues down 6.6 percent year-on-year to EUR 1.58 billion in the fourth quarter, hurt by problems at its Global business. Domestic revenues fell 1.0 percent to EUR 1.22 billion, and Proximus Global recorded a 22 percent fall to EUR 368 million. The Belgian operator also presented its new strategic plan for the period to 2030, with plans to reduce its dividend in order to support capital investment and a return to growth.

Ad Alliance to handle sales for Samsung TV Plus in Netherlands

Samsung has signed a contract with RTL's Ad Alliance to handle advertising sales for its TV Plus platform in the Netherlands. This expands the FAST ad inventory for RTL's customers on Samsung's smart TV platform.

Glasnet offers 10% discount on annual contract paid in advance

Dutch fibre operator Glasnet started offering customers a 10 percent discount if they pay a year's subscription fees in advance. The company said this type of subscription was in demand among customers.

Proximus loses court appeal against mandatory compensation for service disruptions

The Constitutional Court in Belgium has rejected a case brought by Proximus against a law requiring telecom operators to compensate customers for long service disruptions. The court found that the law, in effect since May 2024, does not violate EU laws nor can it be considered disproportionate.

IBM takeover of Solvinity cleared by competition agency

IBM has received clearance from the Consumer and Market Authority in the Netherlands to acquire the Dutch IT services provider Solvinity. The ACM said the deal raised no competition concerns.

TNO, Airbus realise gigabit link between plane and GEO satellite with laser technology

Dutch research institute TNO announced that it successfully established a secure laser communication link between an Airbus aircraft and a satellite in geostationary orbit 36,000 km above Earth. The test used the UltraAir terminal co-developed by Airbus and TNO to demonstrate the use of laser technology for high-capacity communications in space.
