Dutch regulator flags continued problems with business cloud switching

Switching cloud providers remains difficult for many businesses, despite EU efforts to simplify the process, research by the Consumer & Market Authority in the Netherlands found. A survey of 420 mainly small or medium-sized businesses found significant barriers to switching, even with the EU's Data Act taking effect in September 2025.

Open Dutch Fiber starts marketing push with pop-up shop, tour buses

Open Dutch Fiber (ODF) announced plans to open neighbourhood service centres. Started five years ago, the fibre network operator has reached over 1.5 million households covered by its FTTH network, and is now working on improving service take-up. The first shop opens in the Amsterdam Oud-West area, with a temporary outlet on the Kinkerstraat, and buses will be deployed to the cities of Hoorn and Roosendaal to serve local residents. Additional locations will follow.

Dutch parliament wants Solvinity DigiD contract ended if takeover goes ahead

The Dutch parliament approved a resolution calling on the government to not renew a contract with IT services provider Solvinity if the latter's takeover by a US-based company goes ahead. The broadly supported motion concerns the contract for running the DigiD national digital ID platform, which comes up for renewal in 2028.

Dutch central bank opts for German cloud provider Schwarz Digits

The Dutch central bank, DNB, is working with the German cloud provider Schwarz Digits, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported.  A director at the German company told the paper that the contract will be signed at the Hannover trade fair. The DNB did not confirm the contract but said it was working on backup options for critical systems hosted in the cloud to ensure continuity of its core tasks.

Dazn to continue Belgian football coverage in 2026-27 season

Dazn will continue producing and broadcasting coverage of Belgium's top football league through the 2026-27 season. The company's lawyers disclosed the information at a court hearing in Brussels, reported by Belga news agency. This extends an earlier agreement reached in mediation with the Pro League to continue the current season, after Dazn previously tried to pull out of the Belgian rights contract.

AMS-IX launches time-as-a-service with Dutch metrology service

Amsterdam internet exchange AMS-IX announced the launch of a new service, Time-as-a-Service (TaaS), to help organisations ensure a reliable and redundant time signal for critical operations. Targeting digital processes such as financial transactions, cloud platforms, telecom networks and cybersecurity, the TaaS is provided with the Netherlands metrology institute VSL and is designed to serve as a back-up or alternative for the usual satellite systems used for timekeeping.

RGO College in Middelharnis, Netherlands has selected Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise network infrastructure to support secure connectivity for its students and staff. Vodafone starts unlimited campaign with pop star Bente

VodafoneZiggo has hired the Dutch pop star Bente for a marketing campaign to promote the new Vodafone unlimited mobile plans. The campaign features the tagline 'Alleen bij Vodafone' ('Only by Vodafone'), following on from the 'all the time everything network' used in recent Ziggo campaigns. The marketing was developed by the agency Brothers & Sisters. The Vodafone Unlimited plans were introduced in January as the mobile operator's new premium postpaid offering.

Ziggo plans annual inflation increase of 3.3%

Ziggo will increase prices for existing cable customers by 3.3 percent in July. The annual increase is based on the official inflation rate in the Netherlands for 2025, calculated by the CBS at 3.3 percent. This is in line with its main rival KPN, which said it would not increase prices more than inflation. Ziggo also increased prices by 3.3 percent the previous year, in July 2025.

Privacy rights group starts class action against Odido

A privacy rights group is organising a collective lawsuit against Odido following the data breach disclosed by the Dutch telecom operator earlier this year. Consumers United in Court (CUIC) has opened a website to sign up affected customers and collect donations for the legal costs of pursuing a collective compensation claim against the company.

NLziet adds radio streaming

The Dutch OTT TV service NLziet has added radio streaming to its offering. Under an agreement with Radioplayer Nederland which provides the technical platform, NLziet offers over 70 radio stations from public and commercial broadcasters, including national and regional stations, theme channels and other radio. The company said radio opens up new opportunities for using the service, for example in cars and on the go, with direct access from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Dutch AI chip startup Euclyd in talks for EUR 100 mln in funding

Dutch startup Euclyd is in talks with investors to raise at least EUR 100 million for developing its AI chip technology and bringing its product to market. Started in 2024 by Bernardo Kastrup and supported by former ASML CEO Peter Wennink, the company will use the cash to scale up production and serve its first clients, Kastrup told CNBC.

Volt plans major data centre in Rotterdam port

Dutch data centre group Volt announced plans for an AI gigafactory in the port of Rotterdam. Construction is expected to start in 2027 for the 800MW site, and Volt is working with energy company Eneco to ensure sufficient grid capacity, helped by wind energy from the North Sea. Volt already operates a 14MW data cente in Amsterdam and has plans for five more including the Rotterdam site.

Unive adds coverage for cyberbullying to home contents insurance

Dutch insurer Unive is introducing new coverage for cyber threats to its home contents insurance. In addition to damage to their belongings, the insurance will cover damage from cyberbullying, onling stalking and reputation damage. Customers can receive psychological help and have fees for changing school covered.

Proximus to offer discounts on Accountable, Leexi business software

Proximus will start offering new business software to its small business customers, thanks to distribution deals with Accountable and Leexi. As part of the expanded offer for businesses, Proximus is also providing AI training with AI Academy Belgium and ClearMedia since February.

Lycamobile wins appeal against regulatory fine in Belgium

Lycamobile Belgium has won an appeal against an administrative fine issued by the regulator Bipt in August 2025 for inadequate procedures for refunding unused prepaid credit to departing customers. The appeals court in Brussels said the regulator did not investigate the case or motivate its decision sufficiently.

AMS-IX sets new record over 15 Tbps of peak traffic

The Amsterdam internet exchange AMS-IX announced a new record in peak traffic, passing 15 Tbps. The record occurred on 15 April, at around 21.00 hours, when many people are at home streaming, gaming or studying online.

Odido cuts carbon emissions 13% in 2025

Dutch operator Odido said it reduced its CO2 emissions by 13.1 percent in 2025 to 1,293 kilotons. Compared to 2019, emissions are 51 percent lower, and the company aims for a 95 percent reduction by 2030. The lower emissions in 2025 were supported by moving to more electric lease cars for staff, and switching shops and network sites from gas to electric heating, according to Odido's annual report.

Consumers expect bigger data bundle in next mobile plan, but not always unlimited

Around a quarter of mobile users in the Netherlands have a 10-25 GB monthly data bundle and another quarter are on unlimited data. Few people have no data or less than 1 GB per month anymore, while large bundles of 25-100 GB are also uncommon, accounting for less than 10 percent of the market. The latest research from Telecompaper shows that most consumers expect to subscribe to a bigger bundle with their next plan, but not necessarily unlimited data.

Smizer acquires Moes

Riverdam's IT services provider Smizer announced another acquisition, the company Moes. With 35 employees, Moes providers cloud, data and cybersecurity services for medium-sized companies and organisations, working mainly in Haarlem, Almere and Alkmaar. The takeover strengthens the group's regional coverage, taking it to 19 locations around the country. Moes will continue under the same name, led by Rick de Zwart.

Dutch parliament approves cybersecurity laws implementing EU directives

The lower house of the Dutch parliament has approved the Cybersecurity Act and Act on the Resilience of Critical Entities. This extends cybersecurity obligations to thousands of new companies and organisations, and significantly expands the work of the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). The laws still need approval from the upper chamber before they can take effect. The plan is for the measures to apply by the end of June.

Proximus confirms Cecile Coune as new chair

Cecile Coune has been confirmed as the new chair of Proximus' board of directors. The annual shareholders meeting approved her appointment and the seven other directors. The other board members are Proximus CEO Stijn Bijnens, Muriel De Lathouwer, Francis De Meyere, Eric Domb, Beatrice de Mahieu, Emmanuele Attout and Pierre Winand. The latter two are independent directors while the others were all nominated by the Belgian state shareholding company, the majority shareholder in Proximus.

Spie to take over ODF network technicians in new 6-year contract

Spie Nederland has extended and expanded a contract with Open Dutch Fiber (ODF) on building and managing the latter's FTTH network. The new six-year deal makes Spie responsible for both central and decentralised network management and installing connections in high-rise buildings. As part of the deal Spie will take over staff from ODF's unit TOF Group who work on network management and home installations. This ensures the expertise and operational capacity remains available.

Delta grows share on Dutch multi-play market, KPN takes lead for revenues

Delta increased its share of the multi-play market in the Netherlands in 2025, growing its share of subscribers to 6.3 percent from 3.9 percent a year earlier. Its share of multi-play revenues rose over the same period from 3.2 to 5.0 percent. That comes as the wider market stagnated, with little change in the total base of 6.7 million subscribers. VodafoneZiggo remains the largest player by customer numbers, but is overtaken by KPN for revenues. Odido comes third and also gained share last year, according
