Bell partners with Celestica to develop sovereign AI infrastructure

Bell Canada has announced a partnership with Celestica, global provider of data centre infrastructure solutions, to advance development of a sovereign Canadian AI capability. They will collaborate to define and develop a sovereign model for AI infrastructure for sensitive data, especially for governments and regulated sectors. The partnership with combine Bell's AI Fabric with Celestica's AI hardware, manufacturing and supply chain capabilities.

Gartner has updated its forecast for worldwide IT spending this year, projecting slightly faster growth of 13.5 percent to around USD 6.32 trillion. That compares to an outlook of 10.8 percent growth issued in early February. Meta breaks ground on new AI data centre in Tulsa

Meta has broken ground on its new AI-optimised data centre in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This will be the company's first data centre in Oklahoma, its 28th in the US and 32nd worldwide. It will support around 1,000 jobs during the construction phase, and 100 jobs when operational. Meta will also invest over USD 25 million on local infrastructure projects, including water and roads infrastructure.

Databank agrees USD 2 bln loan to speed up Texas data centre construction

DataBank announced that it has secured a USD 2.0 billion loan for construction of the first three data centres on its new campus in Red Oak, Texas. The loan is the company's largest construction financing to date and will fund the build-out of the first of eight planned data centres on the campus. Those initial facilities (DFW9, DFW10 and DFW11) have already been leased and will total 600,000 square feet of data centre space and 180MW of power.

Yondr Group has energised its Toronto data centre, with the 27MW facility set to become operational in mid-2026. The 4.5-acre data centre site is the company's first in Canada, as it continues its expansion across North America. John Madden, Chief Data Centre Officer, said the energisation of the Toronto facility was a major milestone in its commitment to delivering vital digital infrastructure for the region.

Switching cloud providers remains difficult for many businesses, despite EU efforts to simplify the process, research by the Consumer & Market Authority in the Netherlands found. A survey of 420 mainly small or medium-sized businesses found significant barriers to switching, even with the EU's Data Act taking effect in September 2025.

UniCloud Africa and Open Access Data Centres (OADC) have formed a strategic partnership, integrating UniCloud's African sovereign cloud platform with OADC's data centre infrastructure. EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure has secured USD 1.5 billion in construction financing for two fully leased hyperscale data centres in Northern Virginia, as part of its ongoing expansion in the region. Dutch central bank opts for German cloud provider Schwarz Digits

The Dutch central bank, DNB, is working with the German cloud provider Schwarz Digits, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported.  A director at the German company told the paper that the contract will be signed at the Hannover trade fair. The DNB did not confirm the contract but said it was working on backup options for critical systems hosted in the cloud to ensure continuity of its core tasks.

DE-CIX has partnered with Quantum To Digital (QTD) to integrate the QTD1 data centre into its infrastructure, boosting its presence at New York's carrier hotel facility at 60 Hudson Street. DE-CIX becomes the first neutral interconnection provider to serve four independent operators at the connectivity hub - QTD, NYI, Databank and DRT. Over 300 cloud and telecoms providers have a presence at the 24-floor, 700,000 sq ft facility - including AT&T, Amazon and Google.

Huber+Suhner announced it's working with Microsoft to expand production of hollow core fibre (HCF) cables for more Azure data centres. Huber+Suhner works already with the Azure team in Romsey, UK (former Lumenisity, acquired by Microsoft in 2022) to develop and manufacture HCF cables and connectors. These products are already deployed in the Azure network, and the partners are now working on higher-capacity variants to support Microsoft's future scaling of its cloud infrastructure.

Flex to invest USD 1 billion in Mexico data centre expansion

US-based Flex announced plans to invest USD 1 billion in Mexico to expand advanced manufacturing for data centres and artificial intelligence. The project will be carried out over the next three years, with a primary focus on its facility in Zapopan, Jalisco, while also generating economic activity and supply chain development in the states of Chihuahua and Aguascalientes.

Schwarz Digits to showcase European Sovereign Stack at Hannover trade fair

Schwarz Digits, the IT and digital division of Germany's Schwarz Group, will showcase its European Sovereign Stack Standard, ES3, at the Hannover trade fair taking place 20–24 April. The platform aims to support decision-makers in large as well as small and middle-sized firms (SMEs) in improving control of their digital processes and systems, with a model to assess digital sovereignty of IT services and infrastructures in steps.

Amazon gets planning approval for Cork cable landing station

Amazon has secured planning approval from Cork County Council in Ireland to build a new transatlantic cable landing station near the town of Clonakilty, reports the Irish Independent newspaper. It has been given approval to knock down two existing buildings and build a new on-storey landing stations at Tullyneasky West.

Yandex deploys hybrid infrastructure for AI agents at Nornickel

Russian internet company Yandex announced it has deployed hybrid IT infrastructure for development and implementation of AI agents for the metallurgy company Nornickel. The infrastructure combines Nornickel's on-premises systems with Yandex Cloud solutions. The metallurgy company uses AI agents for its industrial and corporate processes.

Deutsche Telekom agrees industrial AI cloud deal with EDAG

Deutsche Telekom is providing its T Cloud Public platform to EDAG, an engineering services provider, to manage its industrial metaverse platform, metys. The metys platform connects virtual product development and physical production into one digital ecosystem to streamline industrial processes. The platform is built on Nvidia Omniverse libraries and OpenUSD. Telekom will also provide its Industrial AI Cloud to EDAG. The AI cloud platform is specifically designed for industrial AI workloads.

Vnet CFO resigns

Chinese data centre operator Vnet has announced that Qiyu Wang has resigned from his position as CFO for personal reasons. Wang's resignation is effective 30 April. Peter Zhihua Zhang, a veteran finance executive with the company since 2019, was positioned to take over Wang's responsibilities, having previously been appointed as principal accounting officer.

NEC has announced the launch of a new cloud platform solution based on its "hybrid cloud by design" approach, aimed at supporting AI-enabled IT environments across multiple cloud and on-premises systems. The solution is designed to integrate on-premises, private cloud and public cloud environments, enabling data and systems to be used across platforms while maintaining security and governance requirements.
