Telefonica Germany has announced the launch of the new 'O2 TV' offering from 06 May, bundling live TV and streaming into a single package at a discounted price. Deutsche Telekom unit premises searched in bribery investigation

The State Criminal Police in North Rhine-Westphalia searched the premises of Telekom Technik, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom in Bonn, on behalf of the Cologne public prosecutor's office, on suspicion of bribery related to the expansion of the German operator's fibre-optic network. The main suspect is a high-ranking employee of the company. Special units and tax investigators searched a total of 40 private and business premises in North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as bank safe deposit boxes.

EQT, Omers ready to table EUR 1.25 bln refinancing package for Deutsche Glasfaser - report

The owners of Deutsche Glasfaser, EQT and Canadian pension fund Omers, are ready to table a refinancing package of EUR 1.25 billion for the German fibre operator, backed by lenders. The owners would inject around EUR 850 million for preferred equity, with the lenders putting in EUR 400 million of new super senior debt, according to a report in the Financial Times citing people familiar with the matter.

Accenture has partnered with Vodafone Procure & Connect and SAP to test humanoid robots in warehouse operations. The trial aims to show how physical AI can help businesses improve safety, boost operational efficiency and implement new workforce models. The results of the trial will be presented at the 2026 Hannover Messe trade exhibition.

1&1 starts services on OXG Glasfaser fibre network

OXG Glasfaser, the fibre network JV between Vodafone Germany and Altice, has started to offer 1&1 internet services on its network. The companies signed a long-term infrastructure partnership agreement last year. Under the agreement, 1&1's fibre backhaul was connected to OXG's regional infrastructure in a large number of cities and metropolitan areas. The marketing of 1&1 fibre services to customers in these areas has now started.

Deutsche Telekom adds 5G+ low latency option for video calls

Deutsche Telekom is expanding services on its 5G+ network with a new option for law-latency video calls. The 5G+ network delivers ultra low latency and was previously available only for gaming applications. The 5G+ Ultra option is based on 5G standalone technologies network slicing and L4S (Low Latency, Low Loss, Scalable Throughput). L4S technology detects network congestion and manages data streams to ensure that latency and jitter remain consistently low and stable, even under heavy mobile data traffic.

Deutsche Telekom agrees industrial AI cloud deal with EDAG

Deutsche Telekom is providing its T Cloud Public platform to EDAG, an engineering services provider, to manage its industrial metaverse platform, metys. The metys platform connects virtual product development and physical production into one digital ecosystem to streamline industrial processes. The platform is built on Nvidia Omniverse libraries and OpenUSD. Telekom will also provide its Industrial AI Cloud to EDAG. The AI cloud platform is specifically designed for industrial AI workloads.

Telefonica Germany announced it has expended its 5G network coverage to Heidersdorf, Luebberstedt and Oettersdorf. In each of the three municipalities the company has started to operate a new mobile site. Telefonica has implemented 2,000 expansion measures in the first quarter of this year in Germany to improve its mobile network coverage.

Gigaset has announced the introduction of Easy 500, a range of three cordless telephones that are simple to use with big buttons, a high-contrast 2.2-inch colour display and clearly structured menu. They combine safety functions such as an SOS emergency call key with excellent clarity and high voice quality. They are available in stores and from the Gigaset online shop, where the standard Gigaset Easy 500 costs EUR 69.99 and the Easy 500A costs EUR 79.99.

Joyn increases price for premium subscription

Joyn, the streaming platform of German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1, is increasing the monthly price of its premium subscription Joyn+ to EUR 8.99 per month, from EUR 6.99 previously. Viewers opting for the one-year subscription to Joyn+ continue to pay EUR 6.99 per month. The price increase follows the launch of a download function enabling viewers to watch from the beginning a program that has already started. AtlasEdge to build second data centre in Leverkusen

European data centre provider AtlasEdge announced plans to build a new data centre in Leverkusen by the second quarter of 2027, to further expand its presence in Germany. The new data centre, LEV002, is located near to the existing LEV001 facility. It will deliver 4.4MW of capacity on approximately 3.400 square metres of space. The company has decided to build a further facility as the LEV001 is nearing full capacity.

Freenet is exploring strategic options for its TV streaming platform Waipu.tv, operated by Exaring, including an IPO. The feasibility and timing of any IPO depend on different factors and general market conditions, the German company said. Freenet remains focused, meanwhile, on expanding Waipu.tv as the second core business of the group, which holds a strong and profitable market position in the growing TV streaming and aggregation market in Germany.

The German Football Association (DFB) is launching its new linear pay-TV channel DFB.TV in partnership with Sportainment Media Group on 22 May. The TV channel will be available in HD quality via cable, satellite, IPTV and OTT through distribution partners including Dazn, HD+, Vodafone and Zattoo. DFB said it is in talks with other platforms to distribute the channel.

Rosenberger OSI announced it has deployed the passive IT infrastructure for the data centre opened by Avacon Group and Envia Tel in February in Sehnde, Lower Saxony. The companies used the PreConnect SMAP-G2 system enabling combined use of fibre-optic and copper cables. Open Infra ends open access fibre partnership with Premium Netz

German fibre-optic network operator Open Infra said it has decided to end its open access partnership with service provider Premium Netz (Filiago), meaning that Premium Netz will no longer offer fibre connections through the Open Infra network. Existing lines remain fully functional and internet access is ensured through a temporary agreement with InternetNord. The Federal Network Agency has been informed of the situation and of the measures taken.

Vodafone Germany cut prices, increases data on GigaMobil plans for broadband customers

Vodafone Germany is cutting prices and increasing data volumes on its GigaMobil S and GigaMobil M plans under a new promotion valid until 12 May. The GigaMobil S plan with 100 GB costs EUR 19.99 instead of the regular EUR 39.99 for 25 GB per month, and the GigaMobil M plan with unlimited data is reduced to EUR 24.99 per month from EUR 49.99 for 50 GB. German intelligence joins US FBI-led international action against Russian infiltration of routers

The German domestic intelligence service Bundesamt fuer Verfassungsschutz (BfV) said it is supporting action by the US FBI and the security agencies of several other countries to tackle cyberattacks by APT28, a group with links to Russian military intelligence service GRU. The group has infiltrated several thousand vulnerable TP-Link routers worldwide and the BfV says approximately 30 have been identified in Germany. The BfV is conducting forensic investigations of individual TP-Link devices to analyse APT2

NorthC updates data centre expansion plans in Netherlands, Germany

NorthC said it will bring new capacity at its data centre in Eindhoven online in May. This is its most important growth area in the Netherlands, and the group is adding 1.5 MW of extra capacity, which should be ready at the end of May. Expansions are also underway at its sites in Aalsmeer and Amsterdam, with expected delivery in 2027, the company said in an update.

GlasfaserPlus delays start to broadband expansion in Herrnhut

GlasfaserPlus, the joint venture of Deutsche Telekom and Australian fund manager IFM Investor, is delaying the start of construction works to build 1 Gbps connections in the town of Herrnhut in the states of Saxony. The expansion plans are currently being revised in close coordination with the city administration, according to GlasfaserPlus. The company remains committed to expand the network. Deutsche Telekom will use the network of GlasfaserPlus for the expansion in Herrnhut.

Deutsche Telekom starts Starlink broadband service for firms

Deutsche Telekom is offering satellite-based broadband service for business customers through the Starlink satellite system. SIA ensures reliable connectivity at sites where fibre-optic and mobile networks are not fully available, or where additional redundancy is required. Telekom supports customers with installation and network integration and says it is the first in Germany to offer satellite broadband as a fully managed service.

Deutsche GigaNetz picks InCoax to expand fibre in buildings

Deutsche GigaNetz has picked InCoax Networks to expand fibre services inside buildings in Germany. InCoax enables the expansion of broadband networks over existing in-building coaxial networks. The solution supports both fibre and fixed-line wireless access (FWA), providing flexibility in multi-dwelling environments, the operator said.

Telefonica Germany expands 5G to Braderup, Juetrichau, Lindenau

Telefonica Germany has expanded its network to Braderup, Juetrichau and Lindenau. The company has started to operate three new sites in Lindenau, a district in the western part of the city Leipzig, in the village of Juetrichau in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, and in the municipality of Braderup in Schleswig-Holstein. This adds to approximately 8,000 expansion projects conducted in 2025.
