Colt completes transatlantic quantum-safe encryption trial with Nokia, Adtran

Colt Technology Services has completed the first transatlantic quantum-safe encryption trial in the world. It successfully transmitted 100 GbE across its transatlantic subsea and terrestrial networks using quantum-safe encryption powered by Nokia Pre-Shared Key (PSK) technology and Adtran's ML-KEM Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) solutions. This is one of several pilots being delivered with partners worldwide to examine new ways of protecting network traffic from quantum threats.

Cyber Security Council recommends big increase in Dutch govt spending on digital resilience

The Cyber Security Council in the Netherlands has called on the government to invest EUR 690 million annually in digital security in order to improve the country's economic resilience. The advisory board said the new government needs to accelerate implementation of the national cybersecurity strategy, in line with the new Nato norm to invest 1.5 percent of GDP in broader infrastructure resilience.

New Zealand banks join operators to block phishing sites

Banks, operators and digital platforms have teamed up with a New Zealand start-up to boost efforts to disrupt and block phishing websites before they can harm customers. The initiative began as a pilot led by ANZ NZ bank and operator 2degrees, and now includes Kiwibank, TSB, One NZ, Spark and Trade Me. The aim is to detect, validate, block and disrupt malicious domains within the first hour of a webpage going live.

Mozambique updates internet rules to allow temporary block for public safety

Mozambique's government has updated its Telecommunications Traffic Control Regulation, allowing the National Communications Institute (INCM) to temporarily block internet and other communications, reported daily O Pais. This measure can be implemented for up to 48 hours, partially, fully, or per subscriber, if there is clear evidence of fraudulent activity or an "imminent risk" to public safety or social order.

T2 adds anti-phishing service to SafeWall platform

Russian mobile operator T2, a subsidiary of the national operator Rostelecom, has completed implementation of the service Anti-Phishing, reports Kp.ru. The service will form an additional element of the cyber-security platform SafeWall, which is available free for all subscribers of the operator. The database of the service counts more than 45,000 case files to help identify risks. The new service is available at the base level of the multi-level platform SafeWall.

ETSI approves first cybersecurity standard for AI models

Europe has its first official standard for AI cybersecurity. The European Telecommunication Standards Institute has published the new standard, ETSI EN 304 223, providing baseline cybersecurity requirements for AI models and systems. Thanks to its collaborative work with national standards organisations, the standard has broad support from the start.

Quantum computing company Equal1 raises USD 60 million

Equal1, Dublin-based quantum semiconductor company, has raised USD 60 million in a funding round led by the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF). Other investors participating in the round include Atlantic Bridge Ventures, Matterwave Ventures, European Innovation Council Fund, Enterprise Ireland, TNO Ventures and Elkstone. This brings total funding raised to date to more than USD 85 million.

Swish clamps down on misuse

Swedish mobile payment service provider Swish said it is introducing a joint blocking function to prevent fraud. The function enables banks that participate in the Swish system to block abusive users from the entire service, not just from their own bank. The banks and Getswish, the company behind Swish, have agreed common criteria for blocking customer, such as when they are suspected of using Swish for criminal purposes or in a way that poses security risks to other customers, the banks or Getswish.

Dutch consumers union starts lawsuit against ING over Google Pay data privacy

The Dutch consumers union has launched a lawsuit against ING calling for more disclosure on the bank's agreements for handling personal data over Google Pay. In 2024 ING withdrew its own mobile payments app, saying customers with Android phones could instead rely on the Google service. However, the consumer rights group said more transparency is needed on what happens to ING customer data.

Cyber security company Nozomi Networks has established its new Asia Pacific & Japan headquarters in Singapore. Nozomi's new regional headquarters will provide enhanced local support to a growing customer base across Asia Pacific and Japan. Additionally, Nozomi plans to collaborate with the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) to support the country's Operational Technology Cybersecurity Masterplan 2024.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced the general availability of the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, its new offering designed to meet demand from the public sector and critical industries for local storage and increased data protection. Located physically and logically separate from other AWS Regions, the new service launches first in Germany and will come soon to AWS Local Zones in Belgium, the Netherlands and Portugal.

SoftBanks IX subsidiary BBIX and its network solutions provider BBSakura Networks said they will add Cisco Secure Access as a destination connection for "XaaS Connection" within their cloud-based network service Open Connectivity eXchange (OCX). Cisco Secure Access is a cloud-based Security Service Edge (SSE) solution built on zero trust. Belgian startup Aikido Security has raised USD 60 million in a series B financing round, giving the company 'unicorn' status with a valuation of over USD 1 billion. Free fined EUR 42 mln for failure to protect customer data

Free and Free Mobile, part of the Iliad group, have been fined EUR 15 million and EUR 27 million respectively for security failings that led to their databases being hacked in October 2024. This follows an investigation into the incident by French data protection watchdog Cnil, which received more than 2,500 complaints from individuals impacted by the security breach. The investigation found that the cyber attack concerned 24 million subscriber contracts, and concluded that a number of basic security measur

Telia Estonia's security service blocks 268 mln cyber-attacks on B2B customers in Q4

Telia Estonia said that its cyber-security service Telia Turvanet blocked more than 268 million cyber-attacks on B2B customers of the operator in October to December of 2025. That's down from 441 million in the first quarter of 2025, while the total was more than 1.2 billion throughout 2025. The number of DDoS attacks doubled quarter-on-quarter in the fourth quarter.

Telefonica and Guardia Civil team up for cybercrime awareness campaign

Telefonica has teamed up with the Guardia Civil military police force and Spain's National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) to launch a new edition of the "Together for your digital security" campaign, with a special focus on young people aged between 8 and 23 years old. The aim is to reduce criminal acts committed online that exploit user anonymity and make fraudulent use of AI, a problem that is increasingly affecting minors, above all on social networks.

SCION Association, the Swiss-domiciled non-profit promoting the adoption of security-first internet architecture SCION, has announced plans to upgrade components in its open source border router for SCION connections. The association said it is working on a zero-copy underlay based on the Linux technology AF-XDP, which has been available for high-speed networking applications since August 2018.

Sangoma Technologies has announced that Commio has chosen Sangoma Carrier Voice to support its customisable communications API platform for enterprises, SaaS platforms and contact centres. Commio supplies an RCS messaging service called InstantApp as well as a branded caller ID service under the name SignatureCalling. As part of the relationship, Sangoma will also use Commio's intelligent call routing voice services within its carrier operations, reinforcing a two-way partnership.
