Quickline Project Gigabit roll-out ahead of target in S Yorkshire

Quickline Communications, UK rural broadband provider, has made full-fibre broadband available to around 9,000 premises through the South Yorkshire (Lot 20) Project Gigabit contract. Quickline was awarded the UK government-funded contract two years ago, with the roll-out now ahead of target. The contract had a target of reaching 8,049 premises by end-March 2026, with Quickline achieving this target in mid-February 2026 and extending coverage to 8,840 premises by end-March.

Gigabit broadband available to 89% of UK homes - Ofcom

The latest Ofcom data shows that gigabit-capable broadband (at least 1 Gbps) is available to 27.1 million households across the UK as of January 2026, equal to 89 percent of premises. This is up from 26.4 million premises (87%) a year earlier. The Connected Nations Spring Update shows that full-fibre broadband was available to 24.9 million or 82 percent of UK homes in January, up from 23.7 million six months earlier.

Online suicide forum fined GBP 950,000 by UK regulator

UK regulator Ofcom has announced a GBP 950,000 fine for the provider of an online suicide forum, which has been linked to more than 130 deaths in the UK. The forum became the first service to be investigated by Ofcom under the Online Safety Act in 2025. Despite making changes to block UK users from accessing the site, it is still accessible to UK users without a VPN. The provider now has two weeks to comply with its legal duties to assess and mitigate the risk of UK users seeing illegal content on its platf

Huawei is promoting a new contactless pay feature with its new Huawei Watch Fit 5 series. The smartwatch supports phone-free payments at any NFC contactless terminal with Curve Pay. To protect against unauthorised payments, the watch automatically triggers a passcode requirement if the watch is taken off the user's wrist. The passcode must be entered to access sensitive features or payments on the watch.

Gamma confirms takeover talks with Providence Equity Partners

Gamma Communications confirmed that Providence Equity Partners is one of the parties involved in potential takeover talks with the company. In a statement to the London Stock Exchange, Gamma said that talks are at a preliminary stage, with no guarantee that an offer will be made. In line with the City Code on Takeovers and Mergers, Providence now has 28 days (until 10 June) to confirm whether or not it plans to make a takeover offer for Gamma.

The UK's cyber security sector grew by 11 percent in 2025 to generate revenue of GBP 14.7 billion, according to newly-released government data. The number of cyber security companies grew by 20 percent or 438 to a total of 2,603, with the sector creating 2,300 jobs last year to reach a total of 69,600 workers (full time equivalents). UK regulator Ofcom is consulting on planned changes to security reporting requirements telecoms network operators. These changes include establishing new, clearer reporting thresholds for mobile operators based on the number of mobile masts and customers that could be impacted by a security/cyber incident. Vodafone UK gets most broadband customer complaints in Q4 - Ofcom

TalkTalk and Vodafone received the most complaints from UK broadband customers in Q4 2025, according to the latest telecoms and pay-TV complaints data from regulator Ofcom. TalkTalk's complaints were flat (10), with Vodafone's complaints rising quarter-on-quarter to 11 complaints per 100,000 customers. Virgin Media was the least complained-about broadband provider at 5 complaints, compared with an industry average of 7 complaints per 100,000 customers.

Onestream buys Cuckoo broadband customer base from AFPN

UK fibre broadband provider Onestream has signed an agreement to acquire the Cuckoo broadband customer base of AllPoints Fibre Networks (AFPN). This doubles the Onestream customer base to 150,000 broadband connections. Under the long-term agreement, all Cuckoo customer contracts, domain and brand will transfer to Onestream; with the customer connections remaining on AFPN's Aquila wholesale platform.

Openreach to withdraw copper-based services at 238 more exchanges

Openreach has announced plans to stop selling copper-based services at an additional 238 exchange locations, covering 1.69 million premises across the UK. By early-June 'stop sell' will be active or planned at 1,432 exchanges, covering over 14 million premises, as Openreach encourages customers to upgrade to new full-fibre digital services ahead of the PSTN switch-off. This is equal to 61 percent of the Openreach full-fibre network footprint.

The UK government has announced an expansion of the Project Gigabit roll-out to reach more than 9,500 additional homes and businesses in Essex. Building on the success of Project Gigabit roll-outs in rural Essex, this is the first contract to also target poor connectivity areas in towns and cities.

Vodafone UK now offering Motorola Razr Fold smartphone

Vodafone UK is now offering the Motorola Razr Fold to customers. It is available in Pantone Blackened Blue from GBP 46.50 per month, with an upfront cost of GBP 70. This is based on a 36-month Phone Plan at GBP 39.50 per month, and 24-month 1GB Airtime Plan at GBP 7 per month. The price of the Airtime Plan will increase to GBP 8.50 in April 2027 and GBP 10 per month in April 2028.

Vodafone UK launches new 5G Broadband service

Vodafone UK has launched a new 5G Broadband service to deliver reliable broadband to an extra 3.7 million premises currently unable to access full-fibre broadband. Vodafone 5G Broadband offers unlimited connectivity and costs from GBP 21 per month. Vodafone Together customers can get a GBP 2 per month discount. The FWA service supports speeds of up to 150 Mbps, which Vodafone says is ideal for students, renters and those wanting flexible broadband connectivity.
