Polsat Plus renews Eutelsat Hotbird slot

Eutelsat announced that Poland's Polsat Plus Group renewed their long standing partnership with a new multi-year, multi-transponder contract at Eutelsat's flagship Hotbird video neighbourhood at 13 degrees East. This renewal strengthens the broadcast collaboration started in 1992. It builds on previous multi transponder agreements that have supported expansion of the pay-TV platform Polsat Box and the broadcaster TV Polsat.

Ovzon has announced that its total numbers of shares and votes have increased by 764,178 C shares and 76,418 votes. At the beginning of January, there had been 111.53 million shares and votes each in Ovzon and its share capital had amounted to SEK 11.15 million. The company issued 764,178 C shares this month, lifting the share capital by SEK 76,418, and immediately repurchased them for its 2024 and 2025 incentive schemes.

GCT Semiconductor has agreed a licensing deal to supply its satellite-capable 5G and 4G RF chips to an unnamed client, described as one of the world's largest satcom providers. Under the agreement, GCT's 5G and 4G product can be integrated with the client's user equipment, unlocking high-bandwidth connectivity via both satellite and terrestrial networks. GCT said the deal provides scope for additional chip volumes, with the client committed to leveraging its latest 5G silicon for direct-to-satellite applica

Eutelsat stops sale of ground stations after French govt opposition

Eutelsat has put an end to the disposal of its passive ground infrastructure, after failing to secure approval for the transaction. France's economy and sovereignty minister Roland Lescure stated in a TV interview that he decided to oppose the sale because Eutelsat's ground stations represent a strategic asset. He noted that the antennas also serve the military, highlighting that Eutelsat is Starlink's ‌only European competitor.

Japan's Sky Perfect Jsat has entered into a strategic capital and business partnership with Singapore-based quantum communications company SpeQtral, with the aim of accelerating the commercial deployment of ultra-secure satellite communications based on quantum cryptography. Under the partnership, Sky Perfect Jsat and SpeQtral will work together to advance satellite-based quantum key distribution technologies, targeting early commercial services in the 2030s.

Rocket Lab launches Korean Earth-imaging satellite

Rocket Lab successfully launched its 81st Electron rocket and second launch in eight days to deploy a satellite for an Earth-observation constellation by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Korea's leading university dedicated to science and technology. 'Bridging The Swarm' lifted off on 30 January from Rocket Lab's private orbital launch site, Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand, to deploy the NeonSat-1A satellite to a 540 km low Earth orbit.

The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) has approved a public consultation to update Brazil's Frequency Band Allocation, Destination, and Distribution Plan (PDFF), paving the way for TV 3.0, the next generation of free-to-air television. A key proposal is to allocate the 250 MHz to 322 MHz (300 MHz band) for sound and image broadcasting, facilitating the evolution of Brazil's terrestrial digital TV.

CSG has managed Dish Network's billing and payment services for 30 years. The CSG SaaS platform will help the satellite TV network with billing, customer care and business optimisation.

Clarus provides Starlink satellite connectivity to CalMac Ferries

Clarus Networks has won a 12-month contract from UK ferry operator CalMac Ferries to provide satellite connectivity, technical support and centralised fleet network management services. The contract was awarded through Public Contracts Scotland. Clarus will provide a pooled Starlink data service across the CalMac fleet, delivering low-latency, high-speed connectivity. CalMac operates 29 routes to over 50 destinations along the west coast of Scotland, with its fleet completing around 136,000 sailings a year.

Arianespace has secured a new contract for the Ariane 6 launch vehicle to place two additional second‑generation Galileo satellites into orbit. Named Galileo L18, this mission will represent the fifth Ariane 6 launch dedicated to Europe's satellite navigation system. The agreement was signed by EUSPA (the European Union Agency for the Space Programme) on behalf of the European Commission.

SES announced that its SES-5 satellite will continue to host the EGNOS GEO‑1 payload until 2030, enabling the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA) to maintain high‑precision navigation services for critical applications, including aviation and maritime activities. The contract extension, which also includes the use of SES's ground station facilities, contains an option to prolong the partnership to 2032.

Kazakhstan covers 504 villages with satellite internet

A total 504 villages have been covered with satellite internet services in Kazakhstan under the national project 'Accessible Internet', reports Profit.kz. The project was carried out by the Ministry of AI and Digital Development, focusing on sites difficult to cover using fibre-optic lines or mobile base stations. A total 176 vllages were covered over KazSat satellites from 2023, and 326 villages were covered using OneWeb satellite systems, in cooperation with the operator Jusan Mobile.

Sky Perfect Jsat, Mitsubishi and Mitsui form venture for Japan defence satellites

Sky Perfect Jsat, Mitsubishi Electric and Mitsui have established a special purpose company to act as the contracting entity for Japan's Ministry of Defense satellite constellation programme. The new company, Tri-Sat Constellation Co, was formed following the award of the Ministry of Defense's "Satellite Constellation Project" to the consortium in December 2025. The consortium also includes the Institute for Q-shu Pioneers of Space, Synspective, Axelspace and Mitsui Bussan Aerospace.

Telesat has signed an MoU with S Korean company Hanwha Systems to jointly develop next-generation, sovereign satellite connectivity solutions, as well as user terminals for use with Telesat's Lightspeed LEO satellite network.
