Omani TRA plans to connect 49 remote schools with satellite internet

The Oman Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) says it will launch a nationwide satellite initiative to provide high-speed internet to remote and hard-to-reach government schools, Muscat Daily reported. Samah Al Khudouri, infrastructure specialist at the TRA, said this is the first phase of a plan to ensure full connectivity at every school in Oman. This will enable every pupil and teacher to benefit from digital educational services and modern learning technologies.

Starlink becomes Australia's second-largest broadband network

Starlink became Australia's second-largest broadband network provider by services in December 2025, according to newly published Internet Activity data from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). The satellite operator supplied 589,000 retail and wholesale broadband services at the end of December, up from 400,000 six months earlier. The total included 552,000 retail services, an increase of 177,000, and 37,000 wholesale services, up by 12,000.

Five foreign companies submit bids to construct KazSat-3R satellite

Five foreign companies have submitted bids for the construction of Kazakhstan's KazSat-3R satellite, reports Profit.kz. They are China Great Wall Industry Corporation, Shanghai Engineering Center for Microsatellites, Russian company Glavkosmos, Finnish company ReOrbit and Turkish Aerospace Industries. Invitations were sent out to 40 global companies in December 2025 and a contract is due to be concluded by the end of this year.

Ukrainian operator Kyivstar has started official sales of services from Starlink to business and B2G customers in Ukraine. Supplies of end-user terminals are due to be start soon. Sales of the services became possible following an agreement between Kyivstar and Starlink concluded on 06 May. Customers can choose either tariffs for services on Ukrainian networks, or tariffs for foreign use.

Viavi has rolled out a GNSS-disciplined oscillator built in the M.2 B-key form factor. The European Space Agency (ESA) said it joined the multilateral memorandum of understanding of the United Nations Global Geodetic Centre of Excellence (UN-GGCE) last month. Azeri state-owned holding company Azcon is continuing work on combining the companies AzinTelecom, Aztelekom and postal services provider Azerpost as a single ecosystem, according to Report, citing Azcom CEO Shakhin Babayev. The work is focusing on synergies among internal processes. Babayev also said that Azerbaijan plans to start exploitation of the satellite Azerspace-3 by the end of 2029. Colombia has conducted its first pilot test of direct-to-device (D2D) satellite connectivity, successfully transmitting an emergency message from a remote area without mobile coverage, the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications (Mintic) announced. The message was sent from Sumapaz via Skylo Technologies' non-terrestrial network to a Viasat satellite and routed to an emergency response centre in Bogota.

Kenya's Murang'a County Government said it's transitioning 170 public medical facilities from traditional Wi-Fi to Starlink satellite internet to boost rural digital healthcare. Delivered via local agent Paratus Kenya, the high-speed upgrade is projected to cut connectivity expenses by up to 70 percent while safeguarding telemedicine services against fibre cuts and power disruptions.

Viasat reported a 2 percent rise in revenues for its fiscal fourth quarter to March to USD 1.2 billion. FET reports it will leverage its network operations experience and information and communication systems integration capabilities to provide Taiwanese customers with connectivity that can augment traditional networks and reach beyond existing service footprints.

Telenor IoT has announced a partnership with Sateliot's Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation based on the 5G standard.
