Alpac Capital eyes United Group media assets - report

Portuguese investment group Alpac Capital, which owns news channel Euronews, is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire several media outlets from United Group, according to Serbian weekly Vreme. These outlets include TV channels N1 and Nova in Serbia, as well as several daily and weekly publications in the Southeast Europe region. Unnamed sources told Vreme that this deal could be finalised within the next month.

Swedish paid streaming subscriptions reach record in Q1 but churn is high

The number of paid streaming subscriptions in Sweden reached a record high of 11 million in the first quarter of 2026, up by 2 million from Q1 2025, according to consultancy Mediavision. Churn is high, though, with over 4 million subscriptions canceled over the past year. New households are subscribing for video streaming and existing households are accumulating more subscriptions, said Fredrik Liljeqvist, principal analyst at Mediavision.

WBD extends coverage of Giro d'Italia cycling races in US, Europe

Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) has signed a long-term extension agreement for the exclusive rights to show the Giro d'Italia and Giro d'Italia Women races to viewers in Europe and the US. The deal also includes top men's and women's Italian road cycling races. The races will be broadcast on HBO Max in the US and Europe, Eurosport in 50 markets across Europe, and on TNT Sports in the UK/Ireland. The long-term deal extends WBD coverage of the Giro d'Italia to more than 30 years.

Danish company GomSpace said it has signed an agreement with Ukrainian partner Stetman to establish a joint venture called UASAT to develop capacity for sovereign satellite communication capabilities for dual use. The first satellite is due for launch in autumn 2026 to provide operational feedback for the next steps in the UASAT roadmap. Further information about the initiative will be disclosed as appropriate and in accordance with current operational security considerations.

Sky Italia has announced that it will be broadcasting one match per day of the forthcoming Italian Open tennis tournament live from Rome on its free-to-air channel TV8. After acquiring the FTA rights from RAI, the broadcaster said a daily game will be available on TV8, alongside all matches on its pay-TV service and Now streaming platform, starting 06 May and ending on 17 May.

Eutelsat has partnered with Co-op Cable to expand direct-to-home (DTH) television and connectivity services across the Caribbean, using its Eutelsat 65 West A (E65WA) satellite. Finnish transport and communications regulator Traficom has reported a rise in interference affecting satellite navigation (GNSS) and mobile networks during 2026. This particularly affects aviation in southern and central Finland. Disruptions to mobile communications have a localised impact in south-eastern Finland in areas very close to the eastern border with Russia. South Korea's SK Broadband (SKB) said its subscription-based video-on-demand service B tv+ has surpassed 100 million hours of cumulative viewing since its launch, indicating increased usage among IPTV customers. The service, introduced in July 2024, offers access to approximately 200,000 titles including films, television series and entertainment content without additional per-title charges. South Korea's Naver Webtoon said enhancements to its anti-piracy system have led to an increase in paid content revenue, according to a report covering the first quarter of 2026. The company stated that its "ToonRadar" system, which is designed to prevent the early distribution of pirated webtoon content, has contributed to a 23 percent average rise in paid transactions across analysed titles. Dazn to continue Belgian football coverage in 2026-27 season

Dazn will continue producing and broadcasting coverage of Belgium's top football league through the 2026-27 season. The company's lawyers disclosed the information at a court hearing in Brussels, reported by Belga news agency. This extends an earlier agreement reached in mediation with the Pro League to continue the current season, after Dazn previously tried to pull out of the Belgian rights contract.

Netgem fixes UK price of Pleio TV streaming device at GBP 99

Netgem has announced a new permanent price of GBP 99 for the Pleio TV streaming device in the UK. Managing Director Sylvian Thevenot said it had made the decision to absorb the costs of rising RAM prices, instead of passing them onto customers, to help drive user base growth. He said Netgem was focused on long-term market presence and keeping the product price at an accessible point to encourage customer take-up. Vectra extends cooperation with Gymnastics Union

Polish operator Vectra is offering the TV channel Eleven Sports 1 in an open window until 03 May. In addition, the operator said it extended its cooperation agreement with Poland's Gymnastics Union, under a new contract valid until 31 January 2028. The cooperation first started in 2022.

Swedish operator Bredband2 said it is beginning to offer customers the ability to watch television and video streaming services from new parent company Telia at a favourable price. Dazn extends broadcast agreement with Faster Football

Dazn has extended a global distribution agreement with Faster Football for a second year. Dazn will stream the Singapore tournament free-to-air and live in more than 200 markets worldwide. The Faster Football (Soccer7Series) tournament will take place at Our Tampines Hub Stadium in Singapore from 24-26 July 2026.
