Sky Italia has launched a new advertising campaign featuring Italian rapper Jake la Furia and footballing legend Alessandro Del Piero to promote its 'Sky WiFi' fibre and Sky TV offer. The corresponding ad features Jake la Furia and friends inviting themselves over to Del Piero's house for a binge watch of all seasons of "House of the Dragon" powered by the footballer's Sky Wifi connection.

Canal Plus secures sub-Saharan Africa rights to Rugby World Cup for men in 2027 and women in 2029

The Canal Plus Group has announced an agreement with World Rugby for the rights to broadcast the Men's Rugby World Cup 2027 and Women's Rugby World Cup 2029 live on SuperSport and DStv across Sub-Saharan Africa. DStv and GOtv subscribers can look forward to watching South Africa and Zimbabwe represent Africa at the 2027 Men's Rugby World Cup in Australia from 01 October to 13 November 2027. The eleventh edition of the competition expands to 24 teams and introduces a brand-new round of sixteen format.

Omani TRA plans to connect 49 remote schools with satellite internet

The Oman Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) says it will launch a nationwide satellite initiative to provide high-speed internet to remote and hard-to-reach government schools, Muscat Daily reported. Samah Al Khudouri, infrastructure specialist at the TRA, said this is the first phase of a plan to ensure full connectivity at every school in Oman. This will enable every pupil and teacher to benefit from digital educational services and modern learning technologies.

The number of new Nordic television drama serials and feature films released in 2025 was down 30 percent year on year, according to Mediavision's latest Content Analysis. There were 57 new Nordic fiction title releases in the region last year, down from 79 in 2024. Domestic commercial broadcasters reduced their output by nearly 40 percent and global streaming services cut their output of Nordic fictional productions by approximately 30 percent. Five foreign companies have submitted bids for the construction of Kazakhstan's KazSat-3R satellite, reports Profit.kz. They are China Great Wall Industry Corporation, Shanghai Engineering Center for Microsatellites, Russian company Glavkosmos, Finnish company ReOrbit and Turkish Aerospace Industries. Invitations were sent out to 40 global companies in December 2025 and a contract is due to be concluded by the end of this year.

Kyivstar starts B2B sales of Starlink services

Ukrainian operator Kyivstar has started official sales of services from Starlink to business and B2G customers in Ukraine. Supplies of end-user terminals are due to be start soon. Sales of the services became possible following an agreement between Kyivstar and Starlink concluded on 06 May. Customers can choose either tariffs for services on Ukrainian networks, or tariffs for foreign use.

Beeline Kyrgyzstan gets exclusive OTT broadcasting rights for FIFA World Cup 2026

Beeline Kyrgyzstan said that it has been awarded the exclusive rights for OTT broadcasting of the FIFA World Cup 2026 men's football competitions in the country. Live coverage will be available for customers of the Ukmush TV application in cooperation with the television channel Kyrgyz Sport TV.

Roku launches new dedicated NHL Zone on Roku Sports

Roku has partnered with the National Hockey League (NHL) to launch the new 'NHL Zone' centralised destination within Roku Sports. This is launching in the US ahead the 2026 Stanley Cup Final, acting as a central hub on Roku for NHL regional and national games in the customer's area. NHL Zone will also allow customers to access the NHL FAST Channel; scores and highlights; and extra long-form hockey programming.

The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) has launched an independent company called Merkhet Solutions to drive commercial deployment of the Broadcast Positioning System (BPS). This patented, terrestrial, GPS-independent timing and positioning technology uses existing high-power broadcast infrastructure across the US.

O2 Slovakia modifies pay-TV line-up

O2 Slovakia has added the channel Spektrum Home to the line-up of its service O2 TV, reports Zive. The channel is available for customers under the HD standard and in the Czech language. The channel will be available for a O2 TV subscribers until 01 July, after which it will be added to the Pochodova package.

Czech operator Poda is offering customers the opportunity to watch the television channel JimJam in an open window in June. Customers do not need to take any steps to activate the TV channel as it will appear in the line-up by default.

DirecTV launches offers for sports fans ahead of World Cup

DirecTV has announced special offers for new MySports and Signature package customers ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. New MySports Genre Pack customers can watch for World Cup for USD 49.99 per month for the first two months. New customers signing up for the DirecTV Streaming App + Device, or Streaming App Only, can pay USD 59.99 for the first month.

Freely PSB streaming service to be in 10.5 million UK homes by 2034

Everyone TV has published new research from 3 Reasons forecasting that Freely PSB streaming platform will be in 10.5 million UK homes by 2034. The analysis also expects the number of UK homes without broadband to drop to 220,000 by 2034, equal to 0.8 percent of TV homes. The number of UK homes without broadband currently stands at 1.2 million, after a 30 percent drop between 2023 and 2025.
