Belgian regulator cautions against govt proposal for automatic switch to cheapest telecom rate

A Belgian legislative proposal designed to make it easier for consumers to switch to more affordable telecom plans may be in violation of EU law. The proposal may also create a significant administrative burden for telecom providers, the regulator Bipt warned in its opinion to parliament on the draft legislation.

Mobile Vikings offers discount on Disney+

Mobile Vikings is offering its customers a discount on Disney+. Customers who subscribe to Disney+ via Mobile Vikings will receive a EUR 2 discount on the monthly fee. The offer applies to all the subscription options: Premium (normally EUR 15.99 per month), Standard (EUR 10.99) and Standard with ads (EUR 6.99). Existing Disney+ subscribers can link their subscription to their Mobile Vikings account to benefit also from the discount.

Proximus NXT wins contract to support Belgian military's Cyber Force

Proximus announced a new contract to work with the Belgian military on cybersecurity. Belgian Defence has selected Proximus NXT as one of its long-term strategic partners for the further expansion of its Cyber Force. Under the eight-year framework, Proximus NXT will work alongside other suppliers to strengthen the cyber resilience of the Ministry of Defence.

Lycamobile Belgium annual revenues fall 15%

Lycamobile Belgium recorded sales of EUR 57.8 million in 2024, a fall of 15 percent from the previous year, according to its recently filed annual report. Operating profit dropped 57 percent to EUR 10.6 million, and net profit was down 63 percent over the year to EUR 7.0 million. Revenues are under pressure from the contracting prepaid segment, while a VAT fine from the Belgian tax authorities impacted profits.

Digi Belgium pledges no price hikes in 2026

Digi Belgium has pledged not to increase prices in 2026. This follows the largest operators in the country all announcing annual price hikes. Digi is the new challenger, and had accumulated 78,000 mobile customers by the end of September 2025, after launching its low-cost services in December 2024.

Telenet to raise prices in March

Telenet has brought forward its annual price increase again this year. Prices will go up from 16 March, covering broadband, TV, mobile, fixed telephony and most bundles. Customers can expect to pay up to EUR 2 per month more under the higher prices, to adjust for inflation and investment costs.

Belgium finalises technical rules for in-building fibre access

Belgian regulator has presented a revised proposal on the technical specifications for in-building access for fibre network infrastructure. The rules, based on the EU's Gigabit Infrastructure Act, will apply to all new buildings or major renovations with permits awarded from 12 February. Market comments on the proposal can be submitted until 09 February.

Proximus CEO sees telco opportunity as European alternative to big tech

The geopolitical tensions in the world create an opportunity for telecom operators to strengthen the role of their networks and reduce dependence on US-based tech companies, according to Stijn Bijnens, the CEO of Belgian operator Proximus. In a meeting with the press, he said digital soveriengty and local infrastructure will pay a greater role in the operator's strategy in future. More details on the strategy will be announced at the end of February with the company's annual results.

Digi Belgium increases data bundles

Digi Belgium has increased the data on its mobile plans, while leaving prices unchanged. The basic plan at EUR 3 per month increases to 7 GB from 5 GB, while the EUR 5 and EUR 7 monthly plans each get 10 GB extra, at respectively 30 and 40 GB per month. Extra data costs EUR 0.60 per GB with all the plans. Both existing and new customers receive the increased allowances.

Digi Belgium launches FWA service for home broadband

Digi Belgium is launching a fixed-wireless access service over its 5G network, offering home internet for EUR 7 per month. The service comes with unlimited data and speeds up to 100/10Mbps. Digi charges a EUR 40 installation fee which may include placing a small antenna on the house to boost the mobile signal to the interior router.

Proximus switches charging platform to Nokia

Nokia announced a new contract with Proximus to upgrade the Belgian operator's online charging system and voice core. Proximus will migrate its entire customer base (fixed and mobile), as well as more than 1,000 products, to the cloud-native Nokia Converged Charging platform. The agreement covers the full replacement of a competitor's existing charging system. Proximus will also implement Nokia's cloud-native Voice Core, Subscriber Data Management and Policy products to support increased network automation

Your.Cloud expands to Belgium with IPSys takeover

Dutch provider Your.Cloud is acquiring IPSys Solutions to launch its services on the Belgian market. With offices in Brussels and Liege and around 60 employees, IPSys provides IP telephony, payment solutions, connectivity, networking, cybersecurity and IT services to businesses in Belgium. The takeover is the next step in Your.Cloud's European expansion strategy.

Edgecore Networks announced it has transformed the data centre infrastructure at Belgian company IPNexia with an automated SONiC-based spine-leaf architecture. This upgrade equips IPNexia with a high-performance, scalable infrastructure to serve its over 3,000 enterprise customers across Belgium. The project was implemented with local partner Deca Consulting

Proximus refreshes top management team

Proximus announced changes in its executive management team, known as the 'Leadership Squad', in an effort to improve customer focus, strengthen its B2B activities and further strategic projects like AI transformation. At its domestic operations, it's bringing together all the telecom and IT services, for both SMEs and at Proximus NXT, which serves large corporates and the public sector. Fabrice De Windt is confirmed as head of Proximus NXT, reporting to B2B Lead Renaud Tilmans. Telenet extends free access to ChatLicense in kids mobile plan

Belgian operator Telenet has extended its partnership with ChatLicense, a Dutch software for helping young children learn safe use of the internet and chat apps. This means subscribers to Telenet's Junior mobile plan will continue to receive free access to ChatLicense.

Belgian mobile market under pressure from Digi, broadband impact still to come

The Belgian broadband market reached 5.15 million lines in Q3 2025, an increase of 0.5 percent year-on-year. All the main providers added customers, but Telenet lost market share, while Orange showed a small gain. Proximus' share was little changed, and Digi is still a negligible presence, according to the latest edition of Telecompaper's Belgian Total Communications report.

Belgian startup Aikido Security raises USD 60 mln in series B round

Belgian startup Aikido Security has raised USD 60 million in a series B financing round, giving the company 'unicorn' status with a valuation of over USD 1 billion. Started in 2021, the company has developed a new approach to integrating cybersecurity throughout the software development process, and already claims over 100,000 customers, including companies such as SoundCloud, Niantic and Revolut.

Telenet credit rating upheld at B1 by Moody's

Belgian operator Telenet's credit rating at Moody's was confirmed at B1, with a stable outlook, following a regular review. The rating was lowered last in February 2024 due to higher leverage at the Liberty Global subsidiary after it borrowed to pay dividends. Based on Moody's definitions, Telenet's current net debt is at around 5.5x EBITDA.

Proximus fibre network achieves top marks in nPerf, Ookla tests

Proximus said its FTTH network has received top marks in international benchmarks. It achieved the fastest scores in Belgium in the nPerf rankings, while Ookla also praised the Proximus network for stability and speed. ​

Orange Belgium's Hey! wins brand of the year award

Orange Belgium's budget brand Hey! has been named Brand of the Year for 2026 by Product of the Year (POY) Belgium. This is the first time a telecom brand has been named in this category, with the award based on a survey of around 10,000 consumers.

Belgium drops plans for 26 GHz auction after little market interest

The Belgian mobile operators are not interested in the 26 GHz band, despite the EU naming this one of the pioneer bands for 5G. The latest market consultation by regulator Bipt found only Proximus interested, but then only if licence prices were much lower and the limits on electromagnetic radiation were relaxed in Brussels and Wallonia regions. Telenet and Orange Belgium said they did not see a need yet for the 26 GHz band, and Citymesh did not respond to the consultation which closed in November.

Citymesh tests connected drones with Ardennes fire service

Belgian operator Citymesh announced a new partnership with the fire service in the Flemish Ardennes region to deploy connected drones to support their work. The trial will see drones placed at four locations - Oudenaarde, Ronse, Zottegem and Kruisem - so they can be deployed in minutes if needed to assist during a call-out for the fire service. They can send live images to the dispatch centre and first-line intervention teams, helping them prepare en route to the fire.

Belgian VO market grows less than 1% amid increased competition

Virtual mobile operators in Belgium showed limited growth in customer numbers in the past year, amid increased competition from newcomer Digi. The latest research by Telecompaper shows the total VO market, including independent MVNOs and second brands owned by mobile operators, accounted for almost 2.7 million Sims in Belgium at the end of Q3 2025, an increase of just 0.8 percent year-on-year.
