NTT Docomo's FY profit jumps 14%, revenue up 4%
Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo posted a net profit of JPY 744.5 billion for the fiscal year ended 31 March 2018, which represents an increase of 14.1 percent from JPY 652.5 billion in the year-earlier period. Operating revenues for FY2017 amounted to JPY 4.7 trillion, up more than 4 percent year-on-year. NTT Docomo’s capex for the year reached 576.4 billion, down from JPY 597.1 billion for the twelve months ended March 2017. Free cash flow amounted to JPY 862.5 billion, compared to JPY 664.5 the year before.

NTT Docomo ended March with 38.30 million smartphone/tablet users, up 7 percent from 35.8 million in March 2017. Its ‘docomo Hikari’ fiber optic broadband subscriber base jumped to 4.7 million in March 2018 from 3.40 million in March 2017.

For the fiscal year ending 31 March 2019, NTT Docomo expects its net profit to reach JPY 695 billion, operating revenues of JPY 4.79 trillion, and basic earnings per share of JPY 193.42.

Announcing a new medium-term strategy alongside its fiscal H1 results, the company said price cuts of 20-40 percent are planned from fiscal Q1 2019 as part of a simplification of its plans and handset costs, while it also invests in improving customer service and launching 5G later in 2019.

Docomo grows quarterly revenues 4%, driven by fibre expansion

Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo reported a strong increase in results for its fiscal first quarter to June, driven by expansion in fibre broadband services, its loyalty programme and new content and payment services. Revenues rose 3.8 percent to JPY 1.177 trillion, and operating profit was up 9.9 percent to JPY 309.9 billion. The net profit increased 9.2 percent to JPY 218.3 billion.

NEC to provide NTT Docomo with base station equipment for 5G services

NEC entered into an agreement with Japanese operator NTT Docomo to provide control units for NTT Docomo's 5G base station equipment. NEC will carry out development that enables existing communication equipment, such as high-density base station equipment, to be fully compatible with 5G. These developments will help prepare the Japanese operator for the launch of 5G services in 2020.

Docomo adds storage pick-up service to d living platform, invests in trunk inc

NTT Docomo and its subsidiary NTT Docomo Ventures have invested in trunk inc., the creator of storage pick-up service 'trunk'. Docomo started providing 'd living' services in July 2016, and added 'trunk' to its service lineup in September 2017. In addition to regular daily-life and housekeeping support services, d living members (monthly fee JPY 450) can now use one box for free through the 'trunk' service (monthly fee JPY 500). No financial details related to the investment have been released.

NTT Docomo's 9-month net profit grows 11%

Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo posted a net profit of JPY 654.2 billion for the nine months ended 31 December 2017, which represents growth of 11 percent from JPY 589.4 billion in the year-ago period. Operating revenues amounted to JPY 3.59 trillion, up 3.6 percent year-on-year, while operating profit fell 0.7 percent to JPY 835.3 billion, hurt by higher costs for sales and its expansion in fibre broadband services. Docomo said it was on track to meet its full-year revenue and cost savings targets.
