
VoIP leads Dutch fixed telephony market higher in Q3

The Dutch fixed telephony market grew by 17,000 connections during the third quarter of this year to 6.090 million, despite a 4 percent drop in PSTN/ISDN connections to 1.773 million on 30 September, according to Telecompaper's quarterly report on the Dutch fixed telephony market. The number of Dutch consumer VoIP subscriptions grew 2.5 percent during the third quarter, to 3.92 million at the end of September 2010. The growth was driven by cable VoIP, with a 3.7 percent increase during the quarter, while DSL reported quarterly growth of 0.9 percent compared with a 0.1 percent decrease in the second quarter. The number of mobile-only households increased to 1.326 million and the number of Wholesale Line Rental (WLR) users decreased by around 1 percent during the quarter to 402,000. For the full year, Telecompaper expects the whole market to grow by 1.1 percent, driven by more than 11 percent VoIP growth to almost 4 million subscribers. KPN saw its share of the Dutch digital telephony market decrease by 0.3 percentage points during the quarter to 33 percent, followed by Ziggo with 28.8 percent and UPC with 18.1 percent.
