Base takes crown for 4G download speeds in Belgium

Number 3 operator Base had the fastest 4G downloads in Belgium, according to the latest data collected by OpenSignal, which uses measurements gathered by a free app installed by users. The company achieved an average download rate over 4G of just under 45 Mbps, one of the highest recorded by OpenSignal and 5 Mbps more than six months previously, when it tied for the top spot with Orange.

Belgian govt approves 5G auction plan with room for 4th operator

The Belgian government has confirmed plans to hold a spectrum auction in late 2019 with conditions to encourage the launch of a fourth mobile operator on the market. The cabinet approved the plans proposed by the telecom minister Alexander de Croo in June.

Omzet Orange Belgium stijgt door retail, omzet mvno valt lager uit

Orange Belgium heeft zijn omzet in de eerste zes maanden zien stijgen van EUR 607,4 miljoen vorig jaar tot EUR 619,6 miljoen ondanks de lagere mvno-inkomsten en de impact van de Europese roamingverordening. De omzetgroei versnelde in het tweede kwartaal van 2018 tot 3,1 procent dankzij een sterke stijging van de omzet uit retaildiensten, die in Q2 een toename van 7,2 procent op jaarbasis liet optekenen.

BIPT study finds impact of 4th mobile operator uncertain

Belgian regulator BIPT has published a study on the impact of a fourth mobile operator on the Belgian market. This is expected to help the government with planning for the next spectrum auction in 2019. The telecoms minister Alexander de Croo has already said he supports a fourth operator.

Belgian mobile service revenues down again in Q1 2018, led by Telenet

The Belgian government's plan to attract a fourth mobile operator may face an uphill battle, as the latest figures from Telecompaper show the market offers little opportunity for growth. In the first quarter of 2018, the Belgian mobile market showed a further decline in service revenues and a large decrease in the number of Sims, due to the prepaid registration law implemented last year. All operators lost service revenues, while Orange performed the best, losing the least revenues.
