Dutch Apps Market - May 2016 edition

Dutch Apps Market is a monthly report that looks at mobile apps development in the Dutch market. The reports covers five areas: apps segments, Voice/IM apps, banking apps, video apps and gaming apps. Data on the various segments in the Dutch apps market and the penetration of voice/IM apps is provided each month. Other data on the usage and perceived quality of certain apps and app segments is provided on a rotating basis, with a different segment analysed each month.

Please see our preview pages below to see which apps are included, i.e. WhatsApp, Facebook, ING Mobiel Bankieren, Rabobankieren, Netflix, RTL XL, Candy Crush and Wordfeud. For all apps splits are given for:

  • market,
  • provider (KPN, Telfort, Tele2, T-Mobile, and Vodafone),
  • age,
  • gender,
  • education level,
  • pre/postpaid,
  • Apple vs. Samsung.
In this edition the segments and the video and banking apps are updated.

This report is based on the continuous online survey conducted by the Telecompaper Consumer Panel over the past twelve months. Every six months at least 10,000 consumers are asked about their use of mobile telephony, broadband connections, fixed telephony and TV, including details on their current situation, purchasing habits, usage and churn. Results are CBS stratified for gender, age (12-80) and education.

It is also possible to purchase a specific part of the report, for example just the part on banking apps. If you are interested in a specific section, please send us an email.

EU Mobile Benchmark 2016 Q1

This EU Mobile Benchmark report compares and analyses nearly 1,700 mobile packages across 16 countries European countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and UK). A matrix was built based on ranges of monthly minutes and MBs offered. SMS has been excluded, as the majority of plans already offered (near) unlimited SMS. To account for more than just the headline cost of minutes and megabytes a total cost of ownership (TCO) approach has been used, which amongst others includes promotions and the cost of handsets. All MNOs, second brands where relevant and one MVNO was included. Data was collected during January - March 2016 from the providers' websites. The team has assumed an 'average' consumer who is looking for a post-paid plan with a top of the range handset or alternatively for a SIM-only plan. The report is accompanied for corporate users by the excel covering all the packages used in the analysis with the following details: name provider, name plan, type of plan, contract duration, which handset included, monthly price, promotional price, duration of promotion, calculated TCO in EUR and EUR PPP, set-up costs, cost of handset, number of minutes, SMS and MBs included. This report edition provides data and analysis of the high-end smartphone and Sim-only choices, while details of all four handset choices up to Q1 2015 are included in the pricing database.
