In this report we analyse the Dutch telecoms markets from a bundling perspective. We report on the number of 1P, 2P, 3P and 4P subscribers, based on both company reports and our own calculations and estimates. Our assumption is that broadband is the leading telco service. Hence we focused on multiplays containing broadband. It is a proxy for households, now that broadband penetration is approaching 100% (assuming further that subscribers only very rarely take two separate broadband subscriptions).
We have added reported and estimated ARPU figures for each multiplay from each of the service providers we track for this report. Taking subscriber numbers and ARPU figures together, we have been able to estimate the size of the Dutch consumer market by various types of multiplay subscriptions.
This is the first time the Dutch market (or any market globally) is analysed in this way, taking account fully of the new reality of service bundling. The report provides a comprehensive overview and insight into the Dutch consumer multiplay market.
The analysis is based on Telecompaper’s continuous research into the development of the Dutch broadband communication services market. The focus is on eight service providers, which represent the vast majority (>90%) of the Dutch consumer market.
We have defined the multiplay market in a broad sense. Not only 4P, but also 2P and 3P subscriptions may contain both fixed and mobile services. But each multiplay needs to contain broadband. Note that not every combination of services is available at every provider. We only include multiplays that are sold as a bundle (i.e. with a benefit: extras, a discount or billed on a single bill).
