The inflation on communication in 2010 was 2% according to the Dutch Bureau of Statistics (CBS). However, a much larger percentage, namely 13%, feels that they are currently paying their mobile phone provider more than a year ago, without a specific change in calling behaviour. Smartphone users are most convinced of this, more so than non-smartphone users. There is no difference between the customers of the different providers, even though Hi and KPN changed almost all their tariffs in January 2010 and T-Mobile in December 2010. The mobile phone operators have changed their tariff plans from paying per first minute and then second into paying per minute. The consternation in the press about this may have led people to feel that they pay more than a year ago. However half of the Dutch consumers with a mobile phone are generally unaware how they are paying for their mobile phone connection. Females are less aware of this than males and smartphone users more than the normal phone users. The level of the education positively affects the awareness of the mobile tariff cost structure. This Research briefs gives more insight.
