Italy now cheapest for mobile postpaid plans in Western Europe after launch of Iliad

Italy has become the cheapest country for postpaid mobile services in Western Europe, following the launch of Iliad there as the fourth operator, according to the latest research by Telecompaper. The market researcher's annual comparison of mobile prices across 16 European countries also shows that in most countries operators are including more and more data in their postpaid Sim-only plans, without a major increase in prices.

KPN, Telfort gain share over Ziggo in growing Dutch triple-play market

The share of Dutch households with triple- or quad-play telecom subscriptions continues to grow, reaching 65 percent in the second quarter of 2016 compared to 61 percent a year earlier. Quad-play shows the biggest growth, up 4 percentage points over the past year, and especially KPN and Telfort have been successful in attracting quad-play subscribers, according to Telecompaper's latest 'Triple Play Insights' report.

Dutch multiplay revenues grow to more than EUR 1 billion in Q2

The market for multi-play telecom subscriptions in the Netherlands is now worth over EUR 1 billion per quarter and is growing steadily, according to the latest research by Telecompaper. Revenue generated from multiplay subscriptions rose 4.5 percent year-on-year in the second quarter to 2016, as more broadband households sign up for multiplay services and move from triple-play to quad-play subscription.

Dutch fixed telephony revenues fall 2.5% in Q2 2016

The fixed telephony market in the Netherlands continued to contract in the second quarter, with revenues* falling to EUR 280 million, according to Telecompaper's latest Dutch Fixed Telephony Market report. The 2.5 percent quarterly decline was an improvement on the 4.6 percent drop during the first quarter. The drop in revenues, underway since 2013, is due to lower usage and falling prices.

Dutch mobile market slows in Q2 2016, service revenues fall 5.6%

The mobile operators in the Netherlands generated EUR 1.2 billion in service revenue in the second quarter of 2016, a decline of 5.6 percent year-on-year, according to the latest research by Telecompaper. The Dutch broadband market continued to grow in the second quarter, albeit at a slower pace than in the preceding two quarters, ending June 2016 with more than 7.24 million connections, according to the Dutch Broadband 2016 Q2 report from Telecompaper. The quarterly growth of 48,000 connections was lower than the net additions in Q1 2016 and Q4 2015, but almost four times more than the 13,000 net additions in Q2 2015.

The number of mobile customers with virtual operators in the Netherlands decreased by 11 percent over the six months to March 2016, to a total of 6.6 million. This large decline was caused by Tele2 becoming a full network operator in Q1 and no longer being considered a MVNO. Gaming apps more popular among women and teenagers

Over half of Dutch consumers with smartphones have a gaming application installed on their device (55%). Gaming apps are especially popular among women, and teenagers are also more likely to have gaming apps installed. Consumers turn back to shops for smartphone purchase in Q1 2016

Consumers are increasingly buying their phones in physical shops, according to the Dutch Smartphone User Q1 2016 report by Telecompaper. In the first quarter of 2016, 42 percent of Dutch consumers said they bought their smartphones online, down from 47 percent a year earlier. The 'Postpaid Mobile Insights Q1 2016' report shows that the NPS (net promoter score) in the postpaid market increased over the past year from +4 to +11. While consumers on Sim-only plans are usually less enthusiastic about their providers, the NPS for Sim-only providers reached the same level as the total postpaid market in Q1.
