ZTE showcases agentic AIR Core at Shanghai MWC event

ZTE is attending MWC Shanghai 2026 to present its AI-native network core, AIR Core, which now supports agentic capabilities.  It comes after ZTE introduced a service AI agent based on this AI core foundation to enable personalised customer experience in 5G networks. At MWC Shanghai ZTE will highlight key features in the AIR Core, including personalised call assistants that enhance voice quality and apply AI-driven noise cancellation.

Google settles YouTube addiction legal claim in US

Google-owned YouTube has settled a social media addiction lawsuit filed by a teenager from Florida, reports BBC News. The teen claimed that social media platforms, including YouTube, were designed to be addictive, and is also taking legal action against Snap, TikTok and Meta (Instagram owner). A trial is scheduled to commence in Los Angeles on 27 July.

Zanzibar signs TZS 300 bln deal with Yas for fibre roll-out

The Zanzibar Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure Agency (ZICTIA) signed a TZS 300 billion public-private partnership agreement with Yas Fibre Tanzania to expand broadband infrastructure over the next 20 years, marking one of the isle's biggest digital investments. Under the agreement, approximately 100,000 households are expected to connect to high-speed internet within the first three years.

Italian broadcaster MediaForEurope (MFE) confirmed plans to distribute a EUR 0.22 per share dividend this year after shareholders at its AGM approved the board's proposal and the company's 2025 results. MTN Uganda has contributed UGX 54.27 billion to the Uganda Communications Commission's Universal Service and Access Fund (UCUSAF). Micron sales growth accelerates in May quarter on AI memory demand

Micron Technology reported revenues over four times higher year-on-year and a more than doubling in its gross margin for its fiscal third quarter to May, driven by soaring memory prices in the face of the strong demand for AI computing. Quarterly revenues jumped to a record USD 41.5 billion from USD 9.3 billion a year ago, and net profit soared to USD 28.2 billion from USD 1.9 billion in the same period. The results blew away its forecasts for the quarter and Micron said it sees more strong growth ahead.

Qualcomm Technologies and Meta have announced a multi-generation agreement under which Qualcomm will supply data centre CPUs for Meta's server infrastructure. Under the agreement, Qualcomm's first-generation Qualcomm Dragonfly C1000 processor is scheduled to enter production in the second half of 2028 and will be deployed in Meta's next-generation server fleet. The companies said the collaboration forms part of a multi-generation roadmap supporting Meta's expanding compute infrastructure.
