Swedish watchdog raises several objections to EU DNA proposals

Swedish telecoms regulator PTS says that the EU Commission's proposed Digital Networks Act (DNA) risks severely limiting member states' abilities to adapt the regulation nationally. PTS has submitted its response to the proposal to the Swedish government, saying harmonised rules at EU level have great value but should not be at the expense of the ability to take local and regional conditions into account.

Swedish telecoms regulator PTS has announced its publication of a policy document cover the decade until 2035, under the title 'Civil defence and crisis preparations within telecommunications'. It says telecoms is one of the areas of highest priority in defence decisions and the document aims to support players in the sector as well as PTS internally.

Equal1, Dublin-based quantum computing technology company, has announced a partnership with Q-CTRL, global provider of quantum infrastructure software. This will see Q-CTRL's infrastructure software for autonomous calibration integrated with Equal1's silicon-based quantum computers - to power mass deployment of rack-mount quantum computers in enterprise data centres.

Swedish reports of privacy and security incidents decline in 2025

Swedish telecoms regulator PTS said that it received 327 reports of privacy and security incidents in 2025. The number of security incidents was slightly lower than in 2024. Of the events reported, PTS considers that 28 were genuine incidents. The most common causes of security incidents in 2025 were system errors, such as software bugs or hardware failures, as well as incidents caused by third parties.

Telenor Sweden reaches 76% procurement from suppliers with science-based climate goals

Telenor Sweden said that 75.6 percent of its procurement is from suppliers that set science-based climate targets. At group level, Telenor overshot its 2025 scope 3 value chain goal of 66 percent sustainable procurement during the year, reaching 67.1 percent. The goal was validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). As the next phase in its sustainability efforts, Telenor has set its suppliers the target of reducing their carbon dioxide emissions by 28 percent by 2030.

Telia Finland could cut up to 90 jobs at B2C division

Telia Finland said it will hold approximately three weeks of talks with a view to cutting up to 90 jobs in its consumer business division, out of 806 altogether. However, around 34 new positions could be created as it make changes to simplify and develop its operation. The negotiations will not affect the store network or customer service.

Morocco's ministry of youth, culture and communication and Huawei Morocco signed a memorandum of understanding to develop the country's gaming industry and digital sector. Signed at the Gitex Africa conference, the agreement aims to build a competitive gaming ecosystem and accelerate growth in the sector ahead of the Morocco Gaming Expo 2026, scheduled for 20-24 May in Rabat.

Ooredoo Maldives introduced a cashback offer through its mFaisaa platform, allowing users to receive MVR 20 back when spending MVR 50 on petrol at selected fuel sheds.The promotion applies to transactions made via mFaisaa at FSM and Hawks fuel sheds in Male and Hulhumale. Cashback is credited directly to the user's wallet after payment.

Virgin Media O2 has activated its 5G+ mobile network across the West Midlands. A Swedish non-profit organisation called Justice and Accountability Initiative (JAI) said it has filed a civil class action suit against Telenor at Asker & Baerum District Court in Norway, claiming EUR 9,000 damages per customer whose information was handed to the Myanmar military from 2021 to 2022. Peru's transport and communications ministry (MTC) said it will invest USD 93 million in a major project to connect digital divide areas across the southern Arequipa region. The initiative will eventually bring high-speed internet access to more than 141,000 people in 252 localities as well as 268 educational institutions, 121 health centres and 53 police stations.

India adds more than 7 million phone lines in February

Indian operators added 7.31 million telephone subscribers in February, ending the month with 1.32 billion fixed and mobile users nationwide, according to the latest figures from market regulator Trai. This represents an increase of 0.56 percent from January. India ended February with a mobile penetration rate of 89.30 percent and fixed penetration at 3.37 percent.
