Spectrum Business, a Charter Communications company, has launched new range of managed network services for state and local government agencies in California - available to customers through the California Network and Telecoms (Calnet) contract. These are supported by Spectrum Business now providing fibre connectivity direct into the California Government Enterprise Network (CGEN) data centre.

Telia Norway says data breach 'bigger issue' than first thought

Telia Norway says a data breach publicised by regulator Nkom last week is a "bigger issue" than it thought a few weeks ago. CEO Bjoern Ivar Moen said customers have had their names, contact information and IP addresses posted on the dark web. He apologised and said the company has "mobilised significant resources" to deal with the matter.

Ooredoo Kuwait has reaffirmed its continued commitment to operating around the clock to ensure uninterrupted telecommunications services, enhance operational readiness, and support national efforts amid the airstrikes in the Middle East. Ooredoo Kuwait said it's providing free internet and calls to and from Kuwait for its customers while they are abroad, effective 2 March. This initiative aims to enable customers to check on their families and loved ones without any additional financial burden.

US-based Optimum Communications has announced a new '25 for 5' marketing campaign to promote the launch of a new deal offering fibre broadband for USD 25 per month for five years. The March campaign will include video, social, audio, out-of-home and digital activity. Mile Parker, President of Consumer Services, said the campaign was designed to redefine "what customers should expect from an internet provider", offering reliable, high-speed fibre broadband at a fixed price.

Virgin Media O2 appoints new Chief Financial Officer

Virgin Media O2 has appointed David Melcon as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with effect from 02 April 2026. He has over 25 year of experience in the telecoms industry, most recently as CFO of Vivo (Telefonica Brazil). He will take over from Mark Hardman and Nick Taylor, who have jointly led Finance & Strategy during an interim period. Virgin Media O2 CEO Lutz Schueler said Melcon would help the group with its digital and operational transformation and long-term growth.

Chile's Entel migrates DTH service to TuVes

Chilean operator Entel has followed rival ClaroVTR by announcing the migration of its direct-to-home (DTH) service to local satellite services provider TuVes. In a short statement, Entel said it will continue handling billing for its DTH offer until the end of March before migrating the service to TuVes and subsequently focusing on delivering live and on-demand content via its internet streaming platform.

Canadian operator Telus has announced an agreement with AST SpaceMobile to launch space-based cellular broadband services in Canada. This will deliver satellite-enabled voice calls, data and text messaging to the most remote areas of Canada, expanding coverage across the country using standard smartphones. The agreement will see Telus invest in ground-based satellite infrastructure and become an equity shareholder in AST SpaceMobile.

Nordic critical digital infrastructure provider Netnod said it has been approved as a Registry Service Provider (RSP) by ICANN ahead of the 2026 application round for new generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs). The approval covers critical functions for DNS and DNSSEC, providing future TLD holders with access to Netnod's DNS platform with more than 90 sites worldwide. For over 25 years, Netnod has operated I-root, which is one of the world's thirteen DNS root servers.

Audible, an Amazon company, is launching a new Standard membership plan in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Australia and France. This includes one audiobook per month from the Audible catalogue, plus unlimited listening from a curated library including around 200 titles previously available on Wondery+ and a selection of Audible Originals. It costs USD 8.99 per month in the US, with comparable pricing in the other markets.

Twilio has a new contract with Dutch operator KPN to launch RCS Business Messaging in the Netherlands. Mediatek is showcasing emergency alert services powered by Starlink's S-band D2D platform at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona. Powered by Mediatek's satellite-capable M90 5G modem, the MWC 26 demo aims to encourage wider adoption of satellite delivery of alerts from cellular public safety systems, including the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS), Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), and the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning System (ETWS).

UK govt announces new satellite communications funding of GBP 30 million

The UK government has announced new funding of GBP 30 million for UK companies developing satellite communications technology. This is the second round of funding from the UK Space Agency's 'Connectivity in Low Earth Orbit' (LEO) programme and will help UK companies develop technologies and components for LEO satellite networks. The funding call opens on 04 March through the UK Space Agency website.

GSMA climate action projects reach 73 mln people

The GSMA says in its annual ClimateTech Horizons Report that its climate action projects have now reached 72.7 million people and supported 21.7 million to adapt to climate change. Grant recipients have been awarded GBP 8.6 million, and GBP 54.4 million in follow-on investment has been secured. This shows that mobile-led solutions act as a catalyst for scaling global climate finance, the GSMA said. By January 2026, 48 organisations were being funded in 22 countries.

They offer a wide range of religious programmes, lectures and Quranic recitations. For those travelling to Saudi Arabia for Umrah, Shahry customers receive a 20 percent discount while using their local data and minutes in KSA. Additionally, Qatarna+ Premium and Platinum subscribers will benefit from built-in, unlimited roaming allowances.

Network International announced the successful enablement of Apple Pay acceptance by powering card tokenization for Apple smartphones for four Egyptian banks. The successful launch comes in the third wave of the Central Bank of Egypt's granting of tokenisation licenses to select banks.

Lyca Mobile freezes UK pay-monthly plan prices for 2026

MVNO Lyca Mobile has announced a prize freeze for pay-monthly plans in the UK for 2026. The move is designed to stop mid-contract price increases and hidden contract fees. Prem Sivasamy, Lyca Mobile's Deputy Chairman, said the company was committed to supporting customers struggling with the cost of living, and that Lyca Mobile has never increased prices mid-contract since launching pay-monthly plans in the UK. It offers pay-monthly plans from GBP 3 per month, with unlimited data plans from GBP 9 per month.

Telphin adds automated messaging from IVR to PBX service

Russian VoIP operator and cloud services provider Telphin has added a new option of automated messages when routing calls to its PBX service Telphin.Office. Text messages can be sent to the messengers Max, Telegram or WhatsApp, as well as over SMS, directly from the IVR menu. The new option is expected to speed up sending information to customers and staff.

TIM ups cost of more prepay plans by EUR 2 a month in April

Telecom Italia (TIM) has announced that further prepay customers will be subject to a price increase of EUR 1.99 (including VAT) applied to their plans starting on 09 April. The fourth unilateral increase to the cost of mobile plans since January was again attributed to "economic needs connected to changed market conditions".

Free Mobile offers temporary support for customers in UAE, Oman and Qatar

French operator Free Mobile has introduced two temporary measures to support customers affected by the conflict in the Middle East. As reported by Clubic, Free Mobile's rates for calls dialled from the UAE, Oman and Qatar have been lowered to EUR 0.22 per minute until the end of March. Additionally, customers in these three countries have been gifted 15 GB of roaming data during the current month. Both measures apply automatically across all the operator's mobile plans.
