MTS Belarus upgrades almost 1,500 LTE base stations in 2025

MTS Belarus said it upgraded almost 1,500 of its LTE base stations in 2025. More than 500 additional antennas were launched on 214 base stations. As a result, the operator finished the year with 99.72 percent of the population able to access 4G.

Moldtelecom offers free TV channels for holiday, refreshes lineup

Moldova operator Moldtelecom announced that all 172 channels from its pay-TV lineup are available for customers in an open window from 31 December to 14 January. The list includes 111 HD channels. In addition, from 01 January the operator will no longer offer the channels Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2, Food Network, HGTV, Investigation Discovery and TLC on its pay-TV service. From 31 December, the channels MTV Hits, MTV Live HD, 00s and Nickelodeon HD won't be available.

Spectral Capital Corporation said it has signed a definite stock purchase agreement to acquire Florida-based telecoms provider Telvantis Voice Services from Telvantis Inc, which formerly traded as Raadr Inc. Vodafone Idea says no govt deal to delay regulatory fees due

Vodafone Idea said it had received no word from the Indian government on a possible moratorium on its regulatory dues, as reported in the press. Rumours of a potential suspension or waiver of the fees had resulted in large fluctuations in its share price, prompting the company to issue a statement to the stock market. Vodafone Idea said that as of 31 December it had no such communication from the government.

Skylink offers 4 channels in open window in January, drops certain others

Slovak pay-TV operator Skylink said it will be offering four television channels in an open window from 05 January to 03 February. The channels in question are Canal+ Action, Canal+ Sport2, Canal+ Sport3 and AMC. From 31 December, the operator will stop broadcasting MTV 80s, MTV 00s, Paramount Network, Travel XP and Comedy Central Hungary channels on its satellite TV and online TV services.

Dazn must continue to cover the Belgian football league with live broadcasts and make payments to the Pro League under their agreed contract according to a mediation decision. The Pro League had requested the agency Cepani mediate in its dispute with Dazn, after the sports streaming service said in November that it was no longer able to meet the terms of the agreement.

OneDrive is the most common cloud storage system used by businesses in the Netherlands. The Japanese government has proposed a four-fold increase in state support for the semiconductor and AI sectors in the next fiscal year starting April 2026. The Columbian mobile towers group TowerNex has raised COP 90 billion in a new five-year term loan from Davibank. Owned by KKR, TowerNex is active since 2023, managing a portfolio of 1,130 towers. This marks its first foray into the debt market, with Davibank supporting the company already since its formation and working with KKR on all its investments in the country.

CTM new pricing scheme becomes valid from January 2026

Macau's CTM will implement a new pricing scheme from January 2026, offering a variety of benefits for all customers who subscribed to relevant CTM services on or before 30 September 2025. Eligible residential broadband customers will receive a 10 percent discount on their net monthly subscription fee during January, April, July and October of 2026. Starting January 2026, the price for extra mobile data will drop from MOP 13 per gigabyte to MOP 8 per 1 GB.

Brazilian technology company Bemobi said it has acquired a 50.1 percent stake in Paytime, with an option to purchase the remaining shares by 2031. Paytime is a provider of embedded payments and Payment as a Service (PaaS) solutions, known for being Brazil's first white-label, no-code fintech. It currently serves over 700 clients and facilitates payment offerings for more than 300,000 merchant locations through a business-to-business-to-business (B2B2B) model. Peru will invest over USD 830 million in nine telecom projects aimed at strengthening communications and connectivity infrastructure in the country, the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced. Russian operator Beeline said it is offering access to international generative AI services to everyone, including subscribers of other mobile operators. The option is available without a VPN on PCs or by using the Mini App Neurochat Beeline X Daisy (18+) on the messenger Telegram. The platform enables access to ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Claude, Grok, Runway, Flux, Suno and Veo 3, among others.

Augmented reality (AR) headset vendor Magic Leap has signed a manufacturing agreement with the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Pegatron. The contract is expected to support a scaled-up production schedule for Magic Leap's AR components, particularly its "ultra-lightweight" waveguide technology.  Pegatron vice chairman Jason Cheng believes the agreement highlights the growing maturity of the AR ecosystem.

Gabonese signs MoU with Huawei to advance digital economy connectivity

The government of Gabon has signed a memorandum of understanding with Huawei to work together on elements of national digital modernisation, Ecofin reported. The partnership also seeks to involve Gabonese start-ups and companies to strengthen the country's digital ecosystem and support local innovation, says the Digital Economy Ministry. Another focus is training and capacity building to develop national expertise and reduce reliance on foreign technology.

Guinean govt starts Univ Connect national broadband network for public universities

Guinea has launched the Univ Connect project to link seventeen public universities and institutes through a secure broadband network, Ecofin reported. The Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy says the network will give more than 80,000 students, teachers and researchers better access to digital resources and international academic content.

Data4 enters exclusive negotiations for new data centre campus in Hauts-de-France

European data centre operator Data4 has been selected to build a new data centre campus in Escaudain (Hauts-de-France region). Following the selection process, the local authority responsible for the site will now enter a 60-day period of exclusive negotiations to finalise the agreement. Russian national operator Rostelecom said it deployed more than 500 kilometres of fibre-optic lines in the Lipetsk region this year. Around 4,600 households were covered with the GPON network in 62 sites. The work was carried out using internal funds.
