Malaysian operator CelcomDigi has introduced its 50-day Unlimited Hajj Roaming Pass to enable customers to stay connected during their 2026 Hajj pilgrimage. The pass is available until 30 June.

EU Commission invites feedback on data centre efficiency labels

The European Commission has invited feedback on a draft regulation that will establish an EU-wide scorecard and e-labels to measure energy and water efficiency in data centres. The consultation precedes planned adoption in Q2 2026, with A-G ratings and labels widely introduced from August 2027 alongside a broader energy efficiency package. The consultation closes on 23 April.

Globo moves to IP distribution with SRT through Synamedia

Brazilian media company Globo has upgraded its main content distribution system. It has switched to using Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) over a completely IP-based network, powered by Synamedia's Quortex PowerVu and virtualised Digital Content Manager (vDCM). This change means Globo's entire distribution now runs on IP, with SRT as the key technology for sending and receiving content.

Quarter of Dutch listening to podcasts at least monthly

Nearly six in ten people in the Netherlands (57%) say they never listen to podcasts. This increased to two-thirds of the population (67%) when adding the group who say they only listen to podcasts occasionally. Just 14 percent listen to podcasts every week or more often, and that increases to over a quarter of people aged 16-35, according to a survey conducted in December 2025 by the Telecompaper Consumer Insights panel.

Brazilian IT market value rises 19% in 2025

Brazil is a major player in the Latin American IT market, maintaining its leadership and ranking tenth globally in IT investments, according to ABES (Brazilian Association of Software Companies). Its study found that the Brazilian IT market value reached USD 67.8 billion in 2025, up by 18.5 percent from USD 58.6 billion in 2024. This surpassed the global average growth rate, but Brazilian growth is projected to slow to 5.3 percent in 2026, indicating a maturing market.

Revenues from neoclouds, meaning GPU-specialised cloud products and services, reached USD 9 billion in the final quarter of 2025, an increase of 223 percent year-on-year, according to Synergy Research Group. Russian govt bans smartphone payments for Apple ID

The four major Russian mobile operators have received a notification from the Ministry of Digitisation directing them to remove the option of topping up Apple ID balances from smartphone accounts from 01 April, reports RBC. The option became very popular after the ban on paying for foreign services using cards issued by Russian banks. The ministry's decision aims particularly to prevent payments for VPN services.
