Airtel files court appeal against govt ban on 3G roaming

Bharti Airtel has appealed to the Delhi High Court against a government order blocking its 3G roaming pact with other operators. Last week, the Department of Telecom (DoT) asked Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular to stop the 3G roaming pacts and submit compliance reports within three days. Bharti said it had received the show-cause notice from the DoT and would be seeking "appropriate legal remedy against the same", the Economic Times reports. The operator said the roaming alliances do not violate 3G licence terms or other regulations, and "are hugely beneficial to customers". No Indian operator has 3G spectrum across the entire country, making roaming necessary to access the services when traveling.
