Austrian mobile revenues drop 5.8% to EUR 2.8 bln in 2011
Austrian mobile operators generated service revenues of EUR 2.8 billion in 2011, down 5.8 percent from 2010, according to Telecompaper's quarterly report on the Austrian mobile industry sector . The increase in non-voice revenues could not offset the pressure on voice revenues from cuts to termination rates as well as the fierce competition. 3 Austria showed a 5.9 percent increase in revenue, while A1, T-Mobile and Orange saw revenue drop 6.0 percent, 6.8 percent and 7.9 percent respectively. The number of mobile lines rose by 5.6 percent to a total 12.96 million at year-end, taking market penetration from 146.3 percent to 153.6 percent. A1 remains market leader with 40.7 percent of mobile lines, followed by T-Mobile Austria with 31.3 percent and Orange Austria with 17.8 percent. 3 Austria is still the smallest operator with 10.2 percent of the total mobile lines. Telecompaper expects a revenue decrease of around 4 percent on the Austrian market in 2012.
