Bharti Airtel drops international CEO
Bharti Airtel announced further changes in its international management, eliminating the role of CEO International. Following the appointment of Christian de Faria as head of the African operations last year, Gopal Vittal, currently managing director and CEO of the India activities, will take responsibility for the Bangladesh and Sri Lanka operations going forward. The current CEO International, Manoj Kohli will give up the executive position. He will remain on the Airtel board as a non-executive director.

Indian mobile telephony operator Bharti Airtel's Manoj Kohli will leave the company after a 10-year stint, The Economic Times reports, citing three unnamed people familiar with the matter. Kohli curently serves as CEO and joint managing director at Bharti Airtel. He earlier headed Bharti Airtel in India and Africa, is expected to resign by the end of this month. He stepped down from Bharti Airtel's board in February.

Airtel Bangladesh launches Wi-Fi services

Bangladeshi mobile operator Airtel has launched Wi-Fi services in some parts of Dhaka, the Financial Express reports. The new service is available in Gulshan, Niketan, Baridhara, Banani, Dhanmondi, Baily Road, Farmgate, Lalmatia, Mohammadpur, and Badda and Airtel is offering seven different Wi-Fi internet packages. Bharti Airtel wins tax relief

India's Income tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) has told the tax department to take off INR 57.39 billion from Bharti Airtel's taxable income, TNN reports. The company had incurred the amount as a loss on the transfer of infrastructure to Bharti Infratel. It was a capital loss and was not claimed by the company as a deduction in its tax return for the assessment year 2008-09. Indian communications provider Bharti Airtel has increased charges for fixed-line broadband services. Bharti's is increasing the charges from April to cover increased costs, PTI reports.

Bharti launches LTE services in Bangalore

Indian mobile operator Bharti Airtel has launched LTE services for Apple iPhone 5s and 5c 3G data users. The service is offered in Bangalore at no extra charge, but customers will need to change their Sim to a 4G Sim card. For heavy data users, Bharti has also introduced a new 4G plan with 10 GB of 4G data priced at INR 1,000. The company said that voice calls will be routed to 2G or 3G.

Airtel quarterly revenues up 13%, profit more than doubles

Bharti Airtel reported fourth-quarter revenues up 13 percent from a year earlier to INR 219.4 billion. EBITDA rose 23 percent to INR 70.9 billion, and net profit more than doubled, to INR 6.1 billion from INR 2.8 billion a year ago. While capex was up 20 percent to INR 28.2 billion, the company still improved operating cash flow by 20 percent to INR 42.7 billion. Airtel names former MTN exec to head Africa operations

Bharti Airtel has announced Christian de Faria, who worked as MTN's chief commercial officer until early this year, as its new CEO in Africa. Manoj Kohli, MD and CEO (International), in charge of Airtel's operations in Africa, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, will relocate to India effective 01 January 2014. Kohli, who is currently based at Airtel's Africa headquarters in Nairobi, has led the company's foray into Africa over the past three years. Faria will join Airtel Africa 16 September and be based in Nairobi.

Indian mobile operator Bharti Airtel has appointed its African operations head Manoj Kohli as its managing director. According to the Economic Times, the Indian business remains outside his area of responsibility, a reporting structure insiders describe as peculiar given Kohli's elevation to managing director.
