Charter launches first Docsis 3.1 services with 1 Gbps
Charter Communications launched Spectrum Internet Gig on Oahu, marking the company’s first residential deployment of Docsis 3.1 internet services delivering a 1 Gbps connection to the customer’s home. In addition, Charter is doubling minimum internet speeds on Oahu to 200 Mbps at no additional cost to new and existing Spectrum Internet customers. 

Priced at USD 104.99 a month for new customers, Spectrum Internet Gig is available for customers on Oahu, with more areas launching the service in the coming months. Spectrum Internet Gig is offered with no data caps or contracts, includes a modem and free in-home Wi-Fi, and is backed by a 30-day money back guarantee.

Charter's Spectrum Internet Gig broadband service is launching to over 6 million more US homes and businesses. Charter loses 112,000 TV customers in Q1, revenues still up after price hikes

US cable operator Charter Communications reported a net loss of 112,000 TV subscribers in the first quarter. It also lost 25,000 telephony customers, while gaining another 362,000 broadband subscribers. It finished March with a total 27.5 million customers, after net additions of 261,000 in Q1, down from 355,000 in the year-earlier period.

Charter activates gigabit broadband for 14 mln homes

US cable operator Charter Communications announced that it's activated its gigabit broadband service over Docsis 3.1 for another 14 million customers. The Spectrum Internet Gig service was first launched at the end of 2017 and is now available to around 23 million households. Charter said it plans to expand this service to "virtually the entire" 41-state footprint in 2018.

Charter adds 15,000 TV susbcribers in Q4, with revenues rising 3.2%

Charter Communications said it added a total of 15,000 video subscribers in the fourth quarter, a turnaround from losses in the previous quarter and the year before. Residential video additions went to 2,000 in the quarter, while additions for SMEs amounted to 13,000, bringing the total number of residential video customers to 16.5 million.

Charter appoints Pope as head of Original Content

Charter Communications has appointed Katherine Pope as SVP, head of Original Content. In this newly created role, Pope will oversee all original programming efforts, including the creation and launch of Charter's upcoming slate of new shows available first on the company's platform. Pope will oversee Charter's announced original content partnerships with AMC and Viacom, along with other partnerships established in the future. She will report to David Ellen, SVP, and will be based out of Los Angeles.

Charter names Green Sinders as SVP, Government Affairs

Charter Communications announced that Vanessa Green Sinders will join its Government Affairs organisation starting in January as SVP. She will report to EVP of Government Affairs, Catherine Bohigian. She will be responsible for directing the company's strategic policy and political engagement with Congress and with the Administration. Sinders joins Charter after four years as the SVP and Department Head for Government Affairs at the American Hotel and Lodging Association.

Comcast is launching a new internet service that will deliver speeds up to 1 Gbps to residential and business customers in Sacramento, California and nine surrounding cities. Comcast rolls out Docsis 3.1 nationwide

Comcast started the nationwide rollout of the Docsis 3.1 technology with its latest xFi Advanced Gateway. Comcast will lease the DOCSIS 3.1-powered, multi-gigabit advanced gateway, formerly known as the XB6, for USD 10 a month in nearly 75 percent of its operating area. Arris International and Technicolor are the two major Docsis 3.1 equipment manufacturers for Comcast. Arris will use Intel's INTC chipsets for its version, while Technicolor will manufacture another version using Broadcom chips.

US broadband provider WOW! is planning to bring 1 Gbps to over 95 percent of its residential and business footprint by the end of the first quarter. Charter revenues up 4.2% in Q3 despite TV customer losses, flat ARPU

Charter Communications lost a net 89,000 TV subscribers in the third quarter, for a total base of 16.982 million at the end of September. That's twice the number of customers lost in Q3 2016, but similar to the decline reported for Q2.

Charter loses 90,000 TV customers in Q2, completes Spectrum launch

US cable operator Charter Communications completed its repositioning under the Spectrum brand in Q2 but has yet to see a substantial improvement in customer numbers since its acquisitions of Time Warner Cable and Brighthouse Networks. The group lost another 90,000 residential TV subscribers in the quarter, and broadband and voice net additions also slowed, to respectively 231,000 and 14,000. AT&T offers 1 Gbps in Monterey-Salinas area

AT&T started offering a 1 gigabit connection on its 100 percent fibre network powered by AT&T Fiber to customer locations in parts of the Monterey-Salinas area, including in parts of Santa Cruz and surrounding communities. The company said it plans to expand access to its broadband internet speeds in parts of Capitola and Salinas in the future.
