Cosmote Romania, Slovak Telekom launch Joyn apps
Deutsche Telekom's subsidiaries in Romania and Slovakia have launched Joyn apps, with support from Jibe Mobile. Marketed as Joyn powered by Cosmote in Romania and Joyn by Telekom in Slovakia, the service provides customers a single application to connect via video call, text, instant messages and group messaging and share photos and videos over iPhone and Android smartphones. 

Jibe's IP Communication Cloud and RCS Hub support the services. The company demonstrated its support for RCS with Deutsche Telekom at the Mobile World Congress in February. Developed with support from the GSMA, Joyn is the brand name for Rich Communications Services. The new apps are the operators' attempt to compete with popular IP applications such as WhatsApp, Viber or Line.

Slovak Telekom launches new roaming packages

Slovak Telekom is launching three new roaming packages for the EU, Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Iceland and the US. The package XS includes 20 MB of mobile data for EUR 2; the package M provides 100 MB for EUR 5; and the package XL supplies 500 MB for EUR 15. O2 Germany to launch Joyn service by mid-2014

Telefonica Germany plans to make the Joyn messaging service available for O2 customers from mid-March, teltarif.de reports. According to comment on the O2 customer service forum, customers will be able to use the service for free until 31 December. Deutsche Telekom considers WhatsApp partnership

Deutsche Telekom is considering a partnership with mobile messaging company WhatsApp, reports Bloomberg. Orange upgrades Libon to chat with any HTML5 device

Orange has developed Open Chat, a technology to allow users of its Libon joyn-compatible communications app to chat and share audio and photos with all of their contacts, regardless of whether they have the app installed or what messaging service they use, if they have one at all.
