CSR rejects takeover approach from Microchip
Wireless chip specialist CSR confirmed it received a takeover approach from Microchip Technology. However, the company rejected the proposal, saying the price was too low. CSR said its board is still considering options for the company. 

The Financial Times reported earlier that the company has hired bankers to sound out offers and assess the merits of a sale. CSR could sell for as much as USD 3 billion, the report said, compared to a market capitalisation of USD 1.57 billion. CSR's components are used in mobile phones, satellite navigation systems, Bluetooth headsets and in-car entertainment systems. 

Microchip confirmed that it held preliminary talks with CSR on ways of cooperation, including a possible takeover. The two have worked together in the past on business initiatives, such as a Bluetooth module.

Microchip drops bid for CSR

CSR announced that Microchip Technology has decided to not launch a takeover bid for CSR. The company rejected Microchip's initial approach in August and later agreed to a rival bid from Qualcomm. The companies have now ended talks, and Microchip confirmed that it does not intend to make an offer for CSR. Under UK stock market regulations, Microchip is now prohibited from making a new approach for six months.

Qualcomm has agreed to acquire Wireless chip specialist CSR in a transaction valued at GBP 1.56 billion, or USD 2.5 billion.
