Deutsche Telekom has launched its MagentaGaming platform, saying the cloud platform has the potential to scale up and compete with major OTT services in the future. The platform will become a central point for international customers, rivaling other OTT services and becoming a relevant player in the market, it said. The company will showcase MagentaGaming at the Gamescom trade fair taking place 27-30 August. It will offer a Gamescom Special so people can try out games that are not yet available on the market.
Telekom's MagentaGaming enables people to play video games via the cloud on different devices. MagentaGaming provides access to games including The Surge 2 for people aged over 18, or Asterix & Obelix XXL 3 for younger people. Over 100 games are available at the commercial launch.
Telekom has been testing the gaming platform for a year with over 1,800 monthly active players and around 20,000 registrations, without advertising. The new design and the usability recorded 86 percent positive comments and high satisfaction with people who tested it, the company said. The software architecture of the gaming cloud system relies on strong partners and on new hardware with decentralised infrastructure.MagentaGaming is available for the PC and Mac, as well as for Android smartphones and tablets. A Bluetooth controller will be added soon, as well as integration with Telekom's MagentaTV platform. Customers who book the gaming service by 31 October can use it free of charge for three months. After that, a monthly fee of EUR 6.95 will be charged.
