The Altan Redes consortium tasked with deploying Mexico’s 4.5G shared network (Red Compartida) said it grew 75.9 percent year on year in the third quarter to pass the milestone of 5 million connected users around three and half years after launching and just over two months after reaching 4 million active users. Around 1.16 million of the total corresponds to domestic mobile internet users while the remaining 3.84 million are mobile users, said Altan, adding that it now hosts over 116 MVNOs on its network, including Sky's BlueTelecom, Izzi Movil, Megamovil, Pillofon, Newww and Elektra’s Oui.
In total, Red Compartida provides commercial service on the 700MHz band to around 69.6 percent of the country, including many digital divide areas and 87 tourist destinations (‘Pueblos Magicos’), reaching a national coverage of over 90 percent of the population via other available networks. It also reaches some 96,563 localities with less than 5,000 inhabitants as part of its social coverage obligations.
