Orange Egypt has announced the launch of 4G services after officially receiving its frequencies from the government, under the slogan "4G for Everyone". Orange is running a promotion, with customers able to receive four times the data they consumed the day before. The offer is free of charge, and customers only need to dial hash 4 hash or subscribe via its website. Customers will get a bonus of 500 MB when replacing their SIM card by a 4G SIM.
With the official commercial launch of 4G services, Orange is launching a rebate with a Tecno N9 handset. For ten consecutive months, Orange Eagle, Orange Panther 65 or Orange Dolphin 65 customers will get a EGP 50 discount, making the smartphone the most affordable on the market at EGP 999 instead of EGP 1,499.
The operator has also brought out its Orange Internet Flybox router at EGP 999 for home connectivity without the need for a landline. By subscribing to 4G internet packages from EGP 100 per month, customers will benefit from three months of internet free of charge.
The operator has also inked a partnership with StarzPlay, the on-demand video streaming service in the MENA region. Customers can access Starz Play's catalogue of over 6,500 hours of blockbuster Hollywood films, documentaries, children's programmes, and shows on the same day as the US. Orange Eagle and Panther customers will be granted six months of unlimited access to StarzPlay app and services.
Orange Egypt was the first mobile operator to acquire an LTE licence nearly a year ago. Orange has invested about EGP 8.6 billion in the licences and has doubled its investments to develop its 4G network all over Egypt, thanks to a total of EUR 750 million loans received from its parent company.
Vodafone Egypt also announced on its website that its 4G network is now live in multiple cities around the country. Telecom Egypt has also launched its 4G network, as part of its entry on the mobile market. Etisalat Misr is still in testing, but said customers already have the Sim cards needed once its LTE network goes live.
