Orange Spain presents new voice-activated STB, to add Amazon Prime

Orange Spain has announced a major revamp of its TV offering, including the launch of a new voice-activated 4K HDR set-top-box with Android TV and the integration of Amazon Prime into its VoD platform. In a statement, Orange revealed that the new Android TV STB comes with a voice search engine via the remote control, plus Google Chromecast integration, meaning content can be streamed to the TV from any compatible Android device. It also adds support for 4K video, cloud recording, VOD, catch-up and replay TV as well as the ability to download Android TV apps from the Google Play store. The STB will be gradually rolled out to all new Orange TV users over the coming months.

During the presentation of the new STB, Orange also revealed that it will shortly be integrating Amazon Prime Video into its TV offering, reports ADSL Zone. The deal follows the global agreement between Telefonica and Netflix signed earlier this year and Vodafone Spain’s exclusive carriage deal with HBO dating back to 2016. The operator is also preparing an online video game platform along the lines of that offered by its French parent company, added the report.

Over the past couple of weeks Orange has also announced the addition of the FlixOle subscription-based VoD service to its TV offer as well as three new packages aimed at younger viewers. The operator currently has a total of 685,000 TV customers.
