Spain ready to launch 700MHz band auction in early 2019
The Spanish government is preparing to auction frequencies in 700MHz band for 5G mobile services “in the first few months of 2019”, reports Europa Press, citing a recent speech by the country’s president Pedro Sanchez. The aim is to begin a DTT migration to free up the 5G frequencies in January 2019 and conclude it by March 2020, ahead of the EU deadline of 30 June 2020. Around 8 million homes set to be affected, with the government looking to earn up to EUR 1.05 billion from its second digital dividend.

This summer's auction of 200MHz of spectrum in the 3.6-3.8GHz band for 5G use raised a total of EUR 437.7 million while a forthcoming tender for frequencies in the 26GHz band due by 2020 could raise between EUR 100 million and EUR 500 million, according to a recent report.

Spanish 5G auction raises EUR 438 million

Spain's auction of 200 MHz of spectrum in the 3.6-3.8 GHz band for 5G use reached total bids of EUR 437.7 million, more than double the minimum EUR 200 million required, the Economy Ministry announced.
