Teleclub to launch free sports channel in July

Swiss pay-TV provider Teleclub is set to launch the free channel Teleclub Zoom in German-speaking Switzerland in July, offering sports programs at no cost. The station will provide exclusive sports content, including matches from the top football league, on free-to-air television. 

Programming will include highlights and analysis from the Raiffeisen Super League, as well as top games from the Brack.ch Challenge League. Select international football games will also be aired, alongside national and international ice hockey matches. 

At the same time, Teleclub also intends to expand the offering of its French-language free-to-air sports channel Sports Flash in western Switzerland, the company confirmed. Teleclub is owned by the Swisscom subsidiary Cinetrade and the media group Ringier.

Sunrise launches new Teleclub offerings

Swiss operator Sunrise launched new Teleclub offerings. Teaming up with pay-TV provider Teleclub, Sunrise will offer live content in HD quality either as a part of packages or as individual pay-per-view options (for CHF 5). Some of its top features include Raiffeisen Super League, Brack Challenge League, UEFA Europe and Champions League, as well as NHL ice hockey. In addition, Teleclub Basic Package Movie HD and the additional Package Sport HD are offered as a promotion gift for six months free.

Teleclub buys Champions League rights

Swiss pay-TV provider Teleclub, owned by Swisscom, has acquired the rights to the Uefa Champions League and Europa league for three seasons, from 2018 to 2021. Teleclub and its parent company Cinetrade agreed the deal with Team Marketing; no financial details were disclosed. Apart from the live games, Teleclub will have rights to highlights and archive footage. The company said not all matches will be on pay-TV, as some will be shown on its new free-to-air channel Teleclub Zoom, which will launch on 22 July

Eurosport sells Bundesliga rights to Teleclub in Switzerland

Discovery Networks Germany announced an agreement to sub-licence the German football league broadcast rights to pay-TV provider Teleclub in Switzerland. Discovery's Eurosport acquired the exclusive rights to show the Bundesliga in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and Teleclub will buy an exclusive licence for its home market. As part of the deal, some matches will also be shown on Eurosport. Teleclub is a joint venture of Cinetrade and Swisscom. No financial details of the agreement were disclosed.

New German language TV channel starts up in Switzerland

A new television channel called Swiss 1 will go on air in German-speaking Switzerland on 08 June, according to an article on the Handelszeitung website. It will focus on domestic entertainment and sports productions, domestic and international documentaries, and biographical output. Swiss 1 is being launched Leguan Productions and marketed by Goldbach Media.

SPB TV releases VR/360 live broadcasting, Ad Expert

Swiss OTT solutions provider SPB TV has debuted a VR/360-degree live broadcasting capability and a targeted in-stream advertising engine at the Mobile World Congress. The VR/360 function allows for live broadcasts over the 4G network on the SPB TV platform Rosing. The virtual reality technology offers live and VoD content, as well as a 360-degree delivery format. Viewers can watch the broadcast from multiple angles.

Swisscom increases TV accessibility

Swisscom has launched a range of features designed to increase the accessibility of their TV programming to people with disabilities. As of 15 December, customers using a UHD TV box can activate subtitles, audio descriptions and sign language within the Settings menu for specific programmes. These are highlighted as accessible in the programme overview. The features were developed in conjunction with ZHAW's ICT Accessibility Lab.

Swisscom extends rights to top football league

The Swisscom subsidiaries Cinetrade and pay-TV provider Teleclub have extended their rights to Switzerland's top football league for another four years, for the seasons 2017/18 to 2020/21. All 180 matches of the Super League will be available on Teleclub channels live. Teleclub secures rights to broadcast NHL games

Swisscom's pay-TV service Teleclub announced it has secured the rights to the National Hockey League (NHL) from season 2016/17. Teleclub will broadcast up to four live games per week including playoffs. The broadcasts on Sunday evenings will be accompanied by own-produced studio shows.

Swisscom, Cinetrade/Teleclub fined CHF 71.8 mln

The Swiss Competition Commission has imposed a sanction of CHF 71.8 million on Swisscom and Cinetrade/Teleclub for allegedly prohibited marketing of sports content via pay-TV. According to COMCO, Swisscom and Cinetrade/Teleclub occupy a dominant market position, particularly with respect to broadcasting national football and ice hockey events, and must offer all TV platforms in Switzerland – if technically feasible – an equivalent Teleclub sport offering at non-discriminatory terms and conditions.
