TeliaSonera confirms talks with AF, Altimo on Megafon
TeliaSonera confirmed talks are underway with AF Telecom and Altimo on the shareholding structure at Russian mobile operator Megafon. Recent press reports suggested that AF Telecom, the holding company of Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov, is in talks to increase its 31.13 percent stake in Megafon. RBC Daily reported citing sources close to the companies that Usmanov is ready to pay USD 5 billion to Altimo for its 25.1 percent stake. He could then swap part of the Megafon stake for a share in LTE operator Scartel, according to a report in Vedemosti. TeliaSonera owns 43.77 percent in Megafon.

Regulator says Megafon-Scartel merger could dent competition

Russian national competition regulator FAS has postponed its decision on the merger of mobile operator Megafon with LTE operator Scartel, which works under the Yota brand, reports Prime-Tass. The merger application had been submitted by Garsdale Services Investment Limited, which is affiliated to Megafon. FAS considers that the merger could lead to the limitation of competition, including the domination of the Garsdale group of the wireless broadband market.

The shareholders of Russian operator Megafon have agreed a new ownership structure that will see AF Telecom, the holding company of Russian entrepreneur Alisher Usmanov, take control of the company. TeliaSonera reported higher sales for the first quarter, thanks to growth in emerging markets and smartphones, while EBITDA declined due to price pressure in its main Nordic markets. Megafon agrees USD 2 billion bridge credit

Russian mobile operator Megafon confirmed an agreement for a USD 2 billion bridge credit from Citi, BNP Paribas and Barclays. Shareholders of Russian mobile operator Megafon have discussed the possibility of an IPO for the company, reports Kommersant citing industry sources familiar with the matter.
