Tencent Africa, a joint venture between China’s Tencent and South Africa-based media group Naspers, has launched a local music streaming service called Joox. The Joox service includes several hundred locally curated playlists as well as a wide range of international music.
It comes in both free and paid tiers, with the latter at ZAR 60 per month and the former including advertising. It includes the option to download music for later listening, and the app, available for Android and iOS, offers three different streaming quality options to help users manage mobile data consumption.
Already available in Asia, Joox has deals with all major international record labels, Tencent said. In addition to monthly access, customers can subscribe for two weeks at ZAR 30.
