Virgin Media moves UK mobile services from BT to Vodafone network

Virgin Media has signed a 5-year MVNO agreement with Vodafone UK to provide services, including 5G, to over 3 million Virgin Mobile customers. Virgin's existing wholesale mobile network services deal with BT will end in late-2021, when Virgin's mobile offering will move to the Vodafone network.

Virgin Mobile said 5G services will launch on the Vodafone network before this transition happens. A complementary wholesale deal has also been agreed for the supply of network services by Virgin Media Business to Vodafone.

Vodafone UK adds 106,000 contract mobile, 61,000 home broadband customers in Q2

Vodafone UK added double the number of new contract mobile customers in its second quarter to 30 September compared to the first quarter, helping it sign up more than 500,000 new customers. Of these, 106,000 were mobile contract, 371,000 mobile PAYG, and 61,000 home broadband customers.

The Telecompaper European Telecoms Services index was down 0.3 percent in week 45, versus a gain of 2.1 percent for the EuroStoxx 50 index. The week was heavy with earnings reports, with some M&A news. Tele Columbus was the best stock to own last week, up 15 percent. At a closing price of EUR 2.45 it has come off considerably from its low of EUR 1.29 in early June. BT's loss of 8.0 percent put it among the week's worst losers. The company stands to lose Virgin Mobile as a MVNO customer from 2021.

Virgin Media sees 52,700 RGU loss in Q3 on shift to higher-value TV bundles

Virgin Media has reported a 3,000 customer loss and 52,700 RGU decline in Q3 2019, due to a shift in focus to higher-value TV bundles. The company registered RGU net additions of 105,300 in Q3 2018. The company added 119,000 premises in the quarter to take the total Project Lightning network build to 1.9 million.

Telefonica UK (O2) ended Q3 2019 with a total of 34.1 million customers, up 5.6 percent year-on-year, with customer growth across all segments. Contract churn was at 1 percent (excluding M2M). Total revenue for the quarter was up 4.1 percent year-on-year, with OIBDA up 5.7 percent from Q3 2018 to GBP 489 million.

New CEO appointed at UK MVNO Tesco Mobile

Tesco has appointed Tom Denyard as the new CEO of Tesco Mobile with effect from 05 November, reports The Times. He replaces Claire Lorains, who was in the role for two and a half years. He was previously Chief Operating Officer at Tesco Malaysia after joining the Tesco Group in August 2014.
