Vodafone, China Mobile withdraw from Myanmar licence bidding
Vodafone Group and China Mobile have announced their decision to withdraw from the process to award two telecommunications licences in Myanmar. The Vodafone-China Mobile consortium was one of 12 shortlisted applicants due to submit their final bids on 03 June. Following the publication of the final licence conditions on 20 May, the Vodafone-China Mobile consortium has reached the decision not to proceed with the process as the opportunity does not meet the strict internal investment criteria to which both Vodafone and China Mobile adhere.

China Mobile has issued a tender for a ground-to-air broadband communications system, though to be for in-flight communications, the Marbridge Daily writes citing a Sina Tech report. The system must be capable of supporting up to 1,500 simultaneous users and be able to service up to ten flights at any given time.

MICTDC, Hitachi to build data centre in Myanmar

Myanmar Information and Communication Technology Development Company (MICTDC) is planning to establish a first data centre in Myanmar. The centre will be built through a joint venture with Japan's Hitachi and will be located in MICT Park in Yangon, Eleven Media reports citing Khun Oo, an official with with MICTDC. The data centre is expected to be completed within a year and is estimated to cost USD 10 to 15 million.

SingTel has submitted its final bid for a telecommunications licence in Myanmar. The company is one of eleven companies competing for the two available licences in the country.
