Ooredoo appoints deputy group CFO Assaf to lead Tunisian subsidiary

Eyas Naif Assaf has stepped down from his responsabilities as deputy CFO at Ooredoo group to become CEO of Ooredoo Tunisia. His career has primarily focused on financial roles within the Ooredoo group, including CFO positions at Ooredoo Algeria and Indosat Ooredoo. On 10 January, he officially assumed leadership of the Tunisian subsidiary succeeding Mansoor Rashid Al‑Khater, who served as CEO for six years following his appointment in November 2019.

Nkom to oversee compliance with EU Cyber Resilience Act in Norway

Norwegian telecoms regulator Nkom said it will expand its remit now that the government is starting to implement the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). Norway is not an EU member but does belong to the European Free Trade Area (EFTA), which is linked to the EU via the EAA. Nkom is already responsible for oversight under the Radio Equipment Directive, which gained new cybersecurity requirements for radio equipment from 01 August 2025.

Vodafone Spain said the Valencia Official College of Pharmacists (MICOF) has awarded it a contract to implement a private communications network that securely connects the 1,239 registered pharmacies in the province of Valencia. Thanks to the deal, valid for five years, Valencia's pharmacies can access a stable, secure and managed private connectivity network that allows for the rapid exchange of information between the various pharmaceutical care points and MICOF's central services.

Viavi Solutions has introduced a radio signal visualisation overlay powered by augmented reality (AR) technology, designed in partnership with Verizon subsidiary Verizon Wireless.  The new RF Viewer integration is offered through Viavi's existing OneAdvisor 800 Wireless testing device, an all-in-one platform under Viavi's Nitro Wireless brand designed for in-field signal monitoring and validations.

Finnish fibre operator Valoo has announced a three-year agreement to sponsor the Valkeakoski men's professional football club FC Haka as well as a young darts player, Rafael Riaali. FC Haka suffered a relegation at the end of the last playing season from the Veikkausliiga and this has hit the club's finances. Valoo's logo will now appear on players' shirts.

Chunghwa Telecom's revenue grows nearly 3%, profit up 4% in 2025

Taiwanese operator Chunghwa Telecom posted revenue of TWD 236.11 billion for 2025, which represents an increase of 2.7 percent year-on-year. Operating income rose 3.6 percent to TWD 48.55 billion, while income before tax increased 5.3 percent to TWD 50.26 billion. Net income grew 4 percent to TWD 38.69 billion, while accumulated EPS was TWD 4.99, up 4 percent year-on-year and hitting an 8-year high.

IQE expects FY sales in upper forecast range, reports non-binding takeover interest

IQE, a London-listed supplier of epitaxial wafers for compound semiconductors, said in a trading update it now expects full-year sales and earnings to finish at the higher end of its prior guidance. The company calculates turnover will arrive at around GBP 97 million, above the midpoint of its revised GBP 90 -100 million estimate, while adjusted EBITDA will finish at GBP 2 million or greater. IQE had projected the latter metric to range from a GBP 5 million loss to a GBP 2 million profit.

Norlys re-fits retail chain to offer full range of services

Danish operator Norlys said it is revamping its chain of 34 retail shops in order for them to offer its full range of services, including energy as well as telecoms. The new store design features Norlys' red colour theme and presents a more cohesive face to the public following its acquisition of Telia Denmark in April 2024. The chain has so far been a mix of mobile phone stores with other Norlys' products bolted on, or conversely Norlys shops with mobile added.

Brits hoard 49 million old games consoles, worth GBP 4.14 billion

New research from Virgin Media O2 shows that Brits are hoarding around 49 million old gaming consoles at home, worth a total of GBP 4.14 billion. This increase follows a Christmas gaming gift book, with Virgin Media O2 reporting a 170 jump in Nintendo Switch console and a 5 percent increase in Xbox sales. With almost three quarters (71%) of Brits struggling for cash in January, games could earn an average of GBP 145 by trading in their old consoles through O2 Recycle.

Eutelsat orders 340 more satellites from Airbus for OneWeb LEO constellation

Eutelsat Group, which combines Eutelsat and OneWeb, announced further progress in the expansion of its OneWeb constellation, with an order of 340 more LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellites from long-standing partner Airbus Defence and Space. The order brings to 440 the number of satellites procured from Airbus as part of this planned expansion, following the contract for a 100-strong batch agreed at the end of 2024 and expected to go into production later this year.

Gamma Communications announced a partnership with Red Cactus, CRM integration provider for telecoms operators and resellers, to provide businesses across Europe with real-time CRM and UC integration. Under the terms of the agreement, Red Cactus's Bubble software will be made available through Gamma's partner network. This will give them access to over 200 CRM and ERP platforms, fully integrated with Gamma UCaaS solutions.

Zain Group receives upgrade to 'A' score from CDP for 2025

Zain Group said it has achieved the top 'A' score in the recently published list from the non-profit Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for 2025. CDP benchmarks show average scores of 'B' for Telecom and Data Centres, and 'C' for the global average, with Zain being the only company based in Kuwait to achieve an 'A' score. Out of 252 globally disclosing telecoms services companies, only 30 received an 'A' score, placing Zain in the top 12 percent of the industry.

UK opposition pledges to introduce social media ban for under 16s

The UK's main opposition party, the Conservatives, have pledged to introduce a ban on under 16s using social media if they are elected to government, reports BBC News. Speaking on the 'Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg' programme on BBC One, Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said the party would also look to ban smartphones in school if they win power.

The EU's Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS-JU) has published a white paper summary of AI and machine learning taxonomies, standards and innovation pathways in relation to 6G and other cutting-edge telecoms. Dubbed 'The AI/ML Landscape for Smart Networks and Services', the paper aims to act as a primer on the current landscape and emerging frontiers, providing clarity on key AI and machine learning terms along with a broad summary of ongoing standardisation pipelines.

Telekom Slovenije leads fixed broadband speeds in nPerf tests

Telekom Slovenije performed the best in nPerf's annual survey of fixed-line internet providers in 2025, achieving 134,351 nPoints thanks to a download speed of 291.3 Mbps and an upload speed of 118.1 Mbps. T-2 placed second with 131,085 nPoints, resulting from speeds of 262.6/130.6 Mbps, ahead of Telemach with 219.3/71.5 Mbps and A1 with 143.4/48.2 Mbps. The tests were carried out from 1 January to 31 December 2025.

Bolivia delays 1.7 GHz and 2.1 GHz band tender until March

Bolivia's telecommunications regulator ATT said its planned tender for frequencies in the 1.7 GHz and 2.1 GHz bands will now be held at the end March, around two months later than initially announced. According to the latest schedule published by the watchdog, bidding documents will be made available to interested parties on 23 February, with the opening of the envelopes for spectrum in the respective bands set to take place on 30 March.
