Amazon has announced a fewnew products, its new Fire HD 10 tablet, with an edition for kids, and a new Kindle made for children. The tablet features a 10.1 inch full HD screen, a faster processor, more battery Life and Alexa, and will retail for USD 149.99. The version for children will go for USD 199.99. The Kindle Kids Edition, has a battery that last weeks, access to thousands of e-books with Amazon FreeTime Unlimited and a two-year guarantee. It will cost USD 109.99.
A tablet made for Prime customers
The Fire HD 10’s screen sports a screen with over 2 million pixels, a new octa-core 2.0 GHz processor and 2 GB RAM, 12 hours-worth of mixed-use battery life, storage starting at 32 or 64 GB and support for up to 512 GB of expandable storage via microSD. There is also unlimited cloud storage for all Amazon content and photos taken with Fire tablets. The tablet in addition supports faster charging with USB-C (2.0), Dolby Atmos audio, enhanced dual band Wi-Fi, durability, picture-in-picture, Alexa hands-free, front and rear facing cameras and screen sharing.
Amazon said the tablet is well suited for Prime services, with its movies and shows, music, books and magazines, photo storage and games with Twitch Prime.
The device comes in Plum, Twilight Blue, Black and White. It can already be pre-ordered, with shipments set to begin on 30 October. People who pre-order before end October will get the Minecraft app (worth USD 6.99) for free. Cases for the tablet cost USD 39.99 and come in Plum, Twilight Blue, Charcoal Black, Sandstone White and Sage.
The new Fire HD 10 Kids Edition also sports a 10.1 inch screen and similar specifications but will cost a bit more, priced at USD 199.99. To mark the introduction, parents will be able to get multi-packs. For example, if they buy two tablets, they will save USD 50.
A Kindle developed for kids
The Kindle Kids Edition comes with a kid-friendly case and one year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited. During the two-year guarantee, parents can send the tablet back to Amazon if damaged and get it replaced for free.
For services, the Kindle comes with services particular to kids, such as achievement badges; browsing and search that works even without the exact spelling; Word Wise with short and simple word definitions; a dictionary with more explanations; a Vocabulary Builder which brings together words looked up; and a choice of kid-friendly wallpapers. FreeTime Unlimited gives access to over 1,000 kid-friendly books and will soon also feature books in Spanish as well as audible books.
In terms of specifications, the device has a six-inch display with an adjustable front light. 32 GB of storable with up 512 GB more with a microSD, up to 12 hours-worth of mixed-used battery life and USB-C for quick charging. There is also a kid-proof case with new adjustable stand in blue, pink or purple.
The device will start shipping from 30 October but pre-orders are open. People ordering the Kindle before end October will be able to buy two devices and save 25 percent.
FreeTime meanwhile comes to Fire TV
Finally, FreeTime, meanwhile, will also soon be available on Fire TV, first through the Fire TV Stick, and then on Fire TV Edition smart TVs. Echo Show devices will get access to the app.
