Nokia achieves over 4.5 Gbps 5G speeds with Turk Telekom

Nokia said it achieved a 5G speed record during a trial with Turk Telekom in the Turkish capital city of Ankara. The record, which reached over 4.5 Gbps, is the first to be achieved on 5G New Radio (5GNR) only, using Nokia’s AirScale 5G RAN platform on 26 GHz mmWave spectrum, 800 MHz bandwidth and a single user device.

During the trial, Nokia’s AirScale Base Station connected with a mobile device to transfer data across Turk Telekom’s 26Ghz mmWave spectrum at a peak speed of 4.5 Gbps. Nokia was selected by Turk Telekom to deliver the ultra-low latency, connectivity and capacity required to test the full range of 5G connectivity in the scope of this trial. 

The high speeds achieved during the trial will enable more high-bandwidth and latency-sensitive enterprise services, such as remotely controlled devices for industrial needs or mission-critical applications. 5G-powered networks will also allow customers to enjoy VR/AR experiences and stronger capacity, and quickly download 4K video content or games.

Turk Telekom, Nokia demo 1 Tbps speed in DWDM trial

Turk Telekom reports it has 1 Tbps over long distances using DWDM technology in its most recent optical transmission trial developed in cooperation with Nokia. In this trial carried out between Istanbul and Ankara, 1 Tbps speeds were achieved over a single DWDM channel, Turk Telekom said. The trial used Nokia's Photonic Service Engine (PSE-6s).

Nokia announced a partnership agreement with Karel, a Turkish electronics manufacturer, to manufacture 4G and 5G base stations in Turkey. The companies intend to start producing 4G base stations for the local market by mid 2022. With 5G expected to become commercial in Turkey in 2023, local production is also expected to include 5G base stations.

Turk Telekom revenues up 17% to TRY 8.6 bln in Q3

Turk Telekom saw its revenues increase by 17.3 percent year-on-year to TRY 8.6 billion in Q3, while EBITDA grew 23.4 percent year-on-year to TRY 4.3 billion, for an EBITDA margin of 49.6 percent. Net income rose to TRY 2.0 billion after 374 percent growth year-on-year.

Turk Telekom has tested remote maintenance and technical support services over 5G using AR (Augmented Reality) technology in cooperation with Nokia. In this context, AR-supported, real-time, high-definition, very low-latency support was provided to the field technician via the VSight Remote remote maintenance and technical support platform by an expert at the centre.

Turk Telekom raises FY outlook after 20% revenue growth in Q1

Turk Telekom saw its revenues increase 20.4 percent year-on-year to TRY 7.6 billion in Q1. EBITDA grew 27.7 percent year-on-year to TRY 3.8 billion, for an EBITDA margin of 50.1 percent, and operating profit increased by 37.9 percent to TRY 2.4 billion. Net income grew to TRY 1.356 billion in Q1, doubling compared to TRY 661 million a year ago despite unfavourable forex movements.

Nokia wins contract from Circle Fiber to deliver FTTP network in southeast Missouri

Nokia is enabling Circle Fiber, a new operating unit of Big River Communications, to build a fibre-to-the-premise network in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri. Using funding awarded by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) through the Broadband ReConnect Program, Circle Fiber is building a fibre access network in unserved and underserved areas in Missouri. The provider is partnering with Nokia to deploy GPON and next generation XGS-PON fibre access technologies which deliver up to 10Gbps speeds.

Turk Telekom revenues rise 22% to TRY 7.7 bln in Q4

Turk Telekom said revenues increased 21.7 percent year-on-year to TRY 7.7 billion in the fourth quarter of 2020. Excluding the IFRIC 12 accounting impact, revenue growth was at 19.9 percent year-on-year. Fixed broadband revenues surged 31.7 percent, while mobile revenue growth also grew, by 12.8 percent. The consolidated EBITDA rose 25.4 percent to TRY 3.5 billion, with an EBITDA margin of 46.3 percent.
